My f-in -law has purchased Vectra with CCR 600 fitted. The CD Changer unit has been removed.
Should RADIO/CASSETTE still work?

We have tried entering code but manual has knobs that don't feature on the unit.
Are replacement changers readily available and reasonably priced?

Any help appreciated as we have promised him he shall have music soon.

Hopefully it will make other people think twice before putting in a false claim for injuries. The coach company dosn't exactly come out brilliantly in this though either. I must have taken more than 100,000 (probably) bus journeys and never once been in a crash in one.

I won't say what I think about the people that did it as I think I know the family involved but it is a lesson hopefully for anybody thinking of making up a false claim. Read more

Just over three years ago another car bumped into mine.

A rear light was broken on my car, which I replaced at a cost of £56.

I've still got the old light, and all that happened was the outer coloured lenses got broken off - the silver reflectors are untouched.

The other driver claims I reversed into him. Damage to his car around £1000, and of course he got the inevitable whiplash. I personally believe that prior to the bump, the front bumper on his car was only loosely tied on to exaggerate the effect of any collision.

Anyway, my insurance company have refused to admit liability. They are using a firm of solictors which specialise in fraudulent insurance claims.

I've seen the documents issued by the other driver / his solicitors and his claims seem very weak and inconsistent. His latest document states that he didn't see me prior to the collision! Presumably, he doesn't want to perjure himself.

Anyway, its now booked into the county court next month. Doesn't matter to me whether I win or lose, as I've now got a company car, so no claims bonus is no longer relevent. Unfortunately, I've now had to book a day off work.

Hello all I am considering buying a Focus 05 TDCi Zetec Climate with 35,000 miles on the clock, FSH one owner. The dealer has promised to do a 40,000 mile service on it and from what I have been reading around the net this is quite a major service.

I am trying to find out:

A: What work should I be checking that they have carried out for this service is there anything in particular I should be looking for? Fuel filter changes etc?

B: I noticed the rubber on the windscreen had worn and you could hear air getting in at 60-70 on the motorway. They said this would be fixed but is this a common problem with this model? The last thing I want to do is buy this and find out water has been getting into the electrics!

Any advice on other things I should be checking for on this model would be very much appreciated, cheers all :-) Read more

Also check the front wing where it meets the sill for damaged paint or corrosion, later models had a plastic shield fitted.

Warning in today's DT about possible damage which could be caused to older cars by a new petrol "95 E10" which contains ethanol. Full artcle here - tinyurl.com/norty9

It's not the ethanol that is corrosive as it is not very corrosive at all, it is both the inevitable water which is introduced into the fuel system when it added to a fuel, and also that fact that any water already in the bottom of a fuel tank will suddenly become miscible with the fuel.

I've just received my car insurance reminder and I've spotted that the car's insured value (£10,000) is the same as when I bought the car 5 years ago. I imagine that the market value is probably only about £2500. Would I be likely to get a (significant) reduction in the premium if I could get my insurer to revise the insured value? Read more

... Ins co stated value up to £25k doesn't concern them!...

I filled in an online proposal and the lowest value option was 'up to £20k'.

Seems the value of the car only comes into it from around £20k/25k and above.

I have back and knee problems. Have a 1996 mondeo which is a struggle to get out of. Have a use of a MPV (Mazda 5) which is easy to get in and out. Lovely car. I am now looking for a car with a high seating position so it is easy for me to get out. Getting in is not that much problem. naturally would have gone for a MPV like a Zafira but MPV commands a high price compared to a normal car like the astra.

It needs to seat up to 5, mainly children. Due to low annual mileage it can be a petrol. Reliable. Cost less than £5k. Do not want a 4x4. Looking at the autotrader there are cars which disappear in the background, cars you don't think of much like the nissan almera tino or mazda premacy. Ideally would like a 'popular' car so parts will be easy to obtain. Any suggestions?

Apart from the blower deciding to randomly pack up on the way there and then suddenly deciding to fix itself my car did 350 miles without any trouble. Only issue is my tracking now seems off since I had the springs replaced (it pulls to the left a little) but this is very minor but will get it sorted.

Ted if you're reading this will send you an email tomorrow explaining what happened last week and shall name the wrong spring disaster garage.

Was very surprised how nippy my 1.2 16v Corsa was even with 4 people in it. Holiday was lovely although my mates wanted to rest a lot and I find resting impossible I always have to keep active.

I did a lot of driving round Wales and really really really hate driving in Manchester now. I could drive at 70mph in Wales without any incident where as Manchester everytime I go some where new there is always a little incident (my fault or otherwise).

Didn't drink that much while I was away but that was probably a good think with the amoint of driving we did. I have a lot more confidence in my car now though though. It was also surpringly comfortable, even at 70mph there was very little noise in the cabin and the steering was very nicely balanced, at higher speeds it tightened up and had quite a bit of feel (the fact I am very strict with making sure my car has exactly the correct tyre preasures probably helped).

I am missing the constant view of Irish Sea, Puffin Island, The Red Warf Bay and the Great Orme, and in the distance Snowdonia which is what I woke up to everyday. I took a basic tool kit with me consisting of spanners, pliers and a screw driver. I didn't use them on the car but the shower hot tap was faulty. I knew what the faulty part was but it was not our carravan so just had to take the tap apart twice soaking this gear in WD40 and put it all back together again. So if I am not fixing things under the bonnet or in a computer its flipping taps.

One thing I have noticed being back at home is just how green Manchester is. All I can see in my back room is trees. But these also destroy the paint work on my car :(. Read more
