I've never yet seen this stuff on sale, although I have read about its introduction.
And I certainly haven't come across any public awareness campaign.
Having said that, I'm going out in a minute to fuel 'the beast' - the only excuse I ever need to drive it! - so I'll keep my eyes extra open.
A large number of people with older vehicles in France are still buying additives to put with their unleaded after the demise of 'super' leaded or lead substitute fuel a few years ago, so confusion seems likely...

I can confirm that french fuel causes problems as i know a chap who had major problems ,he was in the contingent that took a lot of ww2 vehicles down for the Normandy 2009 65th anniversary of D Day
one of their largest vehicles had to be totally emptied of fuel after they topped it up in france and it broke down

I had assumed they had just bought dirty petrol till now though

Worrying..........

''The petrol's introduction follows an EU directive relating to the quality of fuels which states that all petrol must include between 5 and 10 per cent of ethanol by 2013. ''

Good old EU - they love coming up with directive's that cause problems, often major ones, with the general public... Im all for going green, but not when it causes problems that can become environmental problems themselves... fuel tanks dropping their contents on the road, is neither green, nor safe!

''Ethanol is highly corrosive and wears away the metal fuel tanks common in cars registered before 2000, leading to leaks. Most new cars have plastic tanks and are therefore not be affected by corrosion. ''

Do you know if your vehicle has a plastic or metal tank?
there is still a lot of new cars fitted with metal tanks........

I'm not sure how useful this is - picked it up from a website for Brit old car fans in France - but it does have a list of sorts.

I see older Preludes than mine can use the stuff, but not VTECs.
I think I'll leave well alone and stick to the old stuff - as long as I can.

It's not the ethanol that is corrosive as it is not very corrosive at all, it is both the inevitable water which is introduced into the fuel system when it added to a fuel, and also that fact that any water already in the bottom of a fuel tank will suddenly become miscible with the fuel.
