Does anyone know how to export UK used cars to HK ? What prodecure do i need to do ? Read more

Fill the container, put a stamp on it (not airmail), make sure the address is correct...........

I would suggest your problems will be importing into HK ie China. Get yourself a good local agent, and then watch them rip you off.

Two killed on the A38 in Devon after their car collided with a tractor. There aren't any specific details but having driven this section of road hundreds of times I would guess that they ploughed into the back of the tractor.

The A38 runs at motorway speeds, and I've been caught out along with everyone else that drives the road by coming across a tractor doing 15mph. It can be avoided by looking a long way ahead, as you should, but the only indication is usually heavy braking ahead.

Is it about time tractors are banned from fast dual carriageways, in order to prevent something like this happening again? I remember saying a few years ago that it was only a matter of time before this happened on the A38... and sure enough, it has. Read more

Agreed with the above - so unless there is something useful to add -thread locked.

I locked the car last night & all four locking buttons on the doors went down as they are supposed to, but on testing the drivers rear door I found it to be unlocked still - even though the button had gone down when I locked the car!

Does this sound like a part may need replacing or just a simple case of something not connected behind the doorcard? I've not got any experience of taking Mercs apart so won't know what I'm looking for in there.

I've trawled through the Merc forums & the only locking problems I can find showing up all relate to the vacuum pump, but surely that must be fine on mine as the buttons are all going up & down to signify that the central locking itself is working.

The upshot of this is that I have no way to lock this door now so I've had to leave the car at work where it's safe. Has anybody ever come across this before? Read more

No, it doesn't. Interior handle still opens it with button down or up, as does exterior handle - no movement from the button whatsoever unless locking & unlocking from drivers door.

By mistake, my OH has put engine transmission/power steering fluid in the coolant expansion tank "because they both looked pink". I have only just found out and the car has been driven around for about a week with no obvious ill effects. Does anyone know if any permanent damage will have been done, and do i need to take it to the garage? Also does anyone know where I can get a copy of the owners manual - it has gone missing which contributed to the problem in the first place.
Thanks Read more

Hiya folks

I have 2.0 peugot partner van 02 diesel, which I recently bought with 90000 miles on clock. The orange engine light comes on at about 2500 revs and it goes into limp mode. It drives ok in limp mode and perfect in normal mode, with only the odd blip when accelerating hard. No overheating or any problems otherwise. It is very clean under engine bay and doesn't seem to have had any major surgery there. If parked up after limp mode, it starts again no problem, and if left for more than 5 mins the light doesn't come on again till it hits 2500 revs
I have read somewhere that the throttle sticking can cause this ?
Hope this makes sense and any help gratefully accepted.
I am a gardener so in return post me your gardening probs lol

Is autotrader the fastest way to sell a car...or is ebay now the way of choice, I only ask in an attempt to cut costs of selling. Read more

I'm shocked at the money Ebay took from Mr X for a camera sale. I'd
be pretty upset if that was me.

Ebay charges 10% of the final value for ordinary items (eg. not motors, property) up to a max of £40. It's easy to find the info:

Hi we have changed the engine ecu for the same part numbered ecu when we try and start the engine all lights work on the dashboard, But the little red led light stays on the alarm set flash's and beeps and the engine will not turn over. As far as we can work out this is because the immobiliser is not reading the code from the key. Is there any way to recode the key to the ecu... thanks in advance Read more

The PCM hold the VIN number you will need to go to the dealer and have the VIN programmed in. Just the key will not help you as there is a SKIM module around the ignition that reads the key then sends an ok signal to the PCM. But the SKIM and PCM use rolling codes to stop anyone fitting just a PCM You will have a conflicting VIN number from SKIM and PCM + rolling codes fault.

The trusty 1998 petrol 406 estate has just passed 100,000 miles.

It does not burn any oil, the auto box is perfect, it tracks, steers and brakes fine, it still even sounds crisp when accelerating

Apart from a bit of piston slap in the very cold weather a couple of months ago, and some electrical accessories not working, it could mechanically pass for new

Which brings me to my point. There's nothing as reliable as a modern car? 20-30 years ago, few cars would reach 100k without at least a top-end de-coke and/or rebuild.

What do you think? I'd be interested in other's experences of their cars at 100k and more.

I am aware there is a separate topic for the proposed scrappage scheme - this car would qualify for that!

I have to confess to being reluctant to replace my 255K, 1.8 petrol Primera, because of some of the scare stories with newer machinery. It's had a few bits wear out, and it's shabby now due to car park skirmishes (bumpers are decidedly untidy now) but it's not let me down in 5 years/80K miles.

Even the second car, a near-13 year old Daewoo with 65K on the clock has proven its worth. The mechanicals on this old bus are the usual GM reliable, but some of the electrics (window winder, ABS sensor, central locking) have given trouble. I'd still trust it 100% to get me from one end of the country to the other and back with no fuss....

Hi

I think my TT has developed a problem with the computer that controls the automatic transmission as, intermittently, the car suddenly really struggles to apply to the power from the engine, instead sounds strangled and accelerates really slowly.

If I did have to replace the automatic transmission computer, does anyone have any idea what sort of bill I'm looking at? I just want to prepare myself for the cost before sending it in to be sorted out.

Many thanks

Andy

You need to have the diagnostics read. This may be an engine issue not a gearbox issue. Regards Peter
