I'm looking to buy a new car shortly. Quite fancy one of these. All seem to have pretty good write-ups by HJ and on other sites. Would have preferred to have waited a bit longer as new C5 and new Avensis haven't been around that long. As such, initial problems will not have been ironed out yet. Made a mistake a few years back when I bought a new Laguna in the early months. Lots of problems since. Any advice welcome. Read more
In June last year there was this report:-
A hailstorm in northwestern Germany damaged up to 30 000 vehicles at a Volkswagen plant, causing losses that could amount to ?100m, a spokesperson said on Friday.
His remarks were in line with a report in the Sueddeutsche Zeitung newspaper, saying that on Sunday, hail the size of tennis balls slammed into 30 000 new cars parked at a factory in Emden and at a port in the city.
It all went very quiet after that - any reliable follow-up on this story?

I bought my new car back in September, did the usual bodywork inspection when picking it up from the dealer and could not find any problems. Fast forward a few washes to now, and its obvious that one of the wings had been badly scratched and repaired using a machine polisher.....not noticable back then but it is now. Really I think the wing should have been resprayed....
I know it is a long shot but before I contact the dealer do you think there is any chance of them doing a proper repair foc.....or will they do the "It must have been done after you drove the car away" line.
I bought it on HP.....perhaps I should go through the finance company?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

can i point out to back roomers new and old ...dont scrimp
on your insurance ...
Wise words there, they should be copied and pasted onto the top of the site for all.
When its all over will you post a new thread with the outcome, give a fair warning then to others about this ongoing problem, maybe even email HJ about it, he could then use the info in his work.
I'm pleased you finally had a result of a fashion.
I have had my 2000 primera vandalised in the form of someone jumping on the roof and covering the doors/bonnet with paint stripper.
My worry is now that the car will be wrote off as it is probably only worth around £1000 but I really like this car it has been so reliable and has never really given me any trouble.
What are the chances of my insurance company repairing the damage and me being able to keep the car and if it is wrote off does that mean it has to be scrapped????
Any advice on this would be great!!! Read more
Contacted insurance today they are having car taken away tomorrow and i'm getting a courtesy car so fingers crossed it can be repaired
hi, i'm getting zero volts readings from my cam sensor with ignition on. i have a brown/green, grey/red and grey/black wire, and a screening shield. ive tested all variations of the wires but im getting no reading. i also put the black multimeter probe on negative battery and tried positive probe on all three wires, expecting that at least one of them would give me 12v, but no go. am i doing something wrong? multimeter is set to one of the V readings which gives me 12v from the battery.
should i be using ohms?

hi, i checked continuity at ecu and it was a couple of tenths under the reading at the sensor but still within range. i even went one further and removed the three pins from the ecu and tested these with the engine running to see if i got any inteference but good ohm readings so im stumped why i still have a fault code.
Went to a friends tonight and we were talking about our forthcoming 40th anniversaries. both with currents SWMBOs. Got onto honeymoons and cars and I remembered that we went touring Scotland in our Mini.
But it wasn't an ordinary Mini, it was a 1965 Morris Cooper 970S.
I only found out, after I had sold it, that this was probably the rarest of all Minis, just under a thousand were made until April 1965 to enable them to be entered for the under 1000cc racing. Now it is the rarest and most desirable of the Mini range, according to Mini fans. To me, it was just a fast Mini and I traded it in for my second Hillman Super Minx Convertible...Wish I had either of them now !
Anyone else have a regret about a previous car ?
Oh, me and 'er got wed on July 19th '69. The day after, the first men wallked on the Moon.........I sometimes tell her that I wish I'd been with them !

I recently picked up a 55 reg Picasso and have noticed an odd buzz that sounds either electrical or like a small fan. It is coming from the small (10p coin sized) vent on the passenger side between the radio and glovebox. It's nearly always present but I have no idea what it is, or whether it could be something about to fail, but it's definitely not dodgy trim or rattle. It's the exclusive model with digital climate control and the ventilated glovebox - could it be anything to do with this?
Thanks Read more
Hi, thanks for the reply, I have the service book but not the owners guide, however I've just found the PDF online and it is indeed the interior temperature sensor. It doesnt seem to make a difference if air con etc.. is on or off, it just seems to gently hum most of the time regardless.

I know of someone who has had one of these beautiful Citroen C5s for well over a year(I'm not sure if it is a Tourer or a Saloon). He lives near Harwich and drives a lot in France, Spain and of course UK pulling a caravan. He loves the car and finds it very comfortable. He has had 100% reliability in his case.
