Owned a rare car but didn't know ? - 1400ted
Went to a friends tonight and we were talking about our forthcoming 40th anniversaries. both with currents SWMBOs. Got onto honeymoons and cars and I remembered that we went touring Scotland in our Mini.

But it wasn't an ordinary Mini, it was a 1965 Morris Cooper 970S.
I only found out, after I had sold it, that this was probably the rarest of all Minis, just under a thousand were made until April 1965 to enable them to be entered for the under 1000cc racing. Now it is the rarest and most desirable of the Mini range, according to Mini fans. To me, it was just a fast Mini and I traded it in for my second Hillman Super Minx Convertible...Wish I had either of them now !

Anyone else have a regret about a previous car ?

Oh, me and 'er got wed on July 19th '69. The day after, the first men wallked on the Moon.........I sometimes tell her that I wish I'd been with them !

Ted.

Nope. I have no desire whatsoever to take a backward step. Give me the very latest in technology any day.

Never in my life had a mini - I found them too small but I desperately need a pair of 12" mini wheels at moment.

Ever since the age of about 19 I have always had a minimum of 2 cars 'on the road' ( and a variety of others as 'spares')- From memory none have been rare, other than a very early MM minor with a single wiper, and nearside (only) dipping headlight ( ie offside main beam only). I have never found any reference to these economy features on any of the authorative guides, so maybe it was very rare. However at one point, by accident, I owned a pair of number plates 631 MMM and MMM631, how I wish I had kept those.

I'm about to sell my VW Golf Mk1 Caddy Pickup (its on the classified section). But there a number of classic VW enthusiasts after it, I presume because it is in their words "Unmolested" i.e no wide wheels, lowered suspension.

But I expect that the new owner will be itching to modify it and ruin in originality! Then it will be at this summers VW Shows!.

It makes me reluctant to send it off to it eventual fate when it sells . Especially as it looks so good in its original state. Perhaps i should hang onto it after all. its the only one left in the town where I live (Northampton)

I had an old moggie minor van that had originally been GPO. The spec' included:
Rubber front wings - I kid you not. Great for leaving dirty black marks on mates cars when 'accidentally' parking a little too close.
Headlamps on stalks (they couldn't be mounted on the wings).
Split windscreen, which hinged out from the top on the driver's side.
I scrapped it because an oil seal went in the back axle, leaking onto the brake and current girlfriend hated it. Now I'm married to her I don't have to listen!

My grandmother back in the mid 80's had a Mini 850 auto, not exceptional in itself, but it was a 1963 model and early autos are scarce now. It was a sort of royal blue colour with the small rear lights and quite alot of chrome plus the classic central speedo.

I adored that car but it rusted away.
