Perhaps those of you in this area could keep an eye on this over the coming year.
This sort of thing was tried in my area and surprise, surprise, seems that only the anti car merchants had a voice. Now this could be because they were the only ones to complete the survey or it could be that the others were simply ignored . Does any one else have a positive experience of these so called ' consultation exercises" ? Read more
First visit here cos i haven't been a biker since 1988 - but never lose hope of becoming one again before I'm too old even for a Beemer. Been in a few bikers' caffs tho.
Today I saw a rather nice looking Benelli (near home in SW France) and when i got up close to drool I saw what looked like a Honda CB1000 transverse six in it. It certainly had Benelli badges on it (the engine) but was it? I recall being told years ago that my Honda 400-four had a lot of some other make in the engine dept - maybe that was Benelli.
Can anyone enlighten me?
Anyway, the upshot is - I want one.

The cambelt needs to have been changed at least twice and the waterpump once. If it has a manual pop up sunroof it will rattle, if it has a wind/slide roof it is leaking. Apart from that they are good little cars.
Anyone been having problems with their engine fans staying on? My temp gauge reads normal but fans seems to be on a long time, only when the engine is switched off do they stop. When the engine is turned on again there is an a loud click then on come the fans again. Read more
I have a focus and if you have the distribution knob fully to the right on to screen demist
the aircon will run without the light being on.

Probably not odd at all.
People often sell older cars when they've got fed up paying for repairs.
Agree with andyp though - may only be a minor problem with the gear change linkage.
i would really appreciate if anyone would take the time to give me a rough step by step guide on how to get at the clutch as i will have to have a go myself for money reasons right now thanks john Read more
Just an idle question, really. Lots and lots of websites out there all promising that with sufficient effort it's possible to earn £600/week driving HGVs (I imagine that's 50 hours+), is it actually possible to achieve this soon after passing the test?
All these companies are trading under different names but are using the same website design and blurb, and none of them publish their prices on the internet, which seems pretty suspicious to me. I should think it's about £1000 for the 5 day course.
Is it possible to earn back the cost of the course plus a reasonable amount with hard work in the first year, or just marketing gumph? Read more
"The levels of HGV pay in the East Midlands where I'm based seem to be around £250wk net for 7.5t, £330 for Class II and £390 for Class I. That's a long way off £600."
£390 in the hand, tax and NI paid is about £500 gross. You can be sure the website was quoting gross pay, not after stoppages.
Advice needed - my 9-3 Saloon (2002, 2.2TiD) has now done 72K and is starting to feel a bit soft at the front, obviously in needs new shocks, but does anyone know if a better option than the original is available ? I'm not looking for anything sporty, but does a more comfortable shock exist, with no loss in handling ?

I had to use a works van the other day and had a few minutes to waste, so I thought I'd look through it's fault log.
Windscreen washers need filling.
Windscreen washers filled.
This book is designed to be used for when the vehicle is put in for repairs. It looked like the van had been taken off the road and sent to the workshop to fill the washer bottle. Read more
I've been in the civil/public service. These logs are compulsory and disciplinary action is likely unless they are filled in. Even for trivial items. Now that I am in the private sector, several layers of administration (all internally monitored) have been lifted.Any log books are treated with common sense.
My son has been offered a few days hard labour (parental :-) here) starting tomorrow, first thing. We want to check if he is allowed to drive a Pajero pulling a trailer - trailer is a high sided metal one, about the same size as the 4x4.
He is awaiting the arrival of a replacement photocard, which has these details, but it will not arrive before he has to report for duty. The paper bit does not make this clear, unlike the old fashioned licence I have. Read more
Thank you, oldnotbold, just the information I was after. Obviously I was not looking at the right part of the dvla site!

It was rumoured that Benelli couln't think of a name for it so just called it Sei. Which is Italian for 6. I remember the 900 when it first came out, being Italian it looked gorgeous. Personally I liked the 6 into 2 pipes but then again it was the 70's and flares were also in fashion. Being kind however it had its share of problems as mentioned. Still looks nice although
