I'm not having a police bash here, but I don't how anyone, especially someone with advanced training, could think it's safe to drive at that speeds in those conditions.
Apparently, he's claiming that he was driving at an appropriate speed for the conditions. Read more
Does anyone else think these are not set accurately?
There are some of these flashing signs along the road from Frimley to Ash Vale, Surrey and assuming my speedo over reads and even when using my TomTom satnav, these things seem to light up when i'm just a smidge over 30.

They have had to remove some of these signs in our locality since the idiotic youth were having competitions trying the set the highest speed read.
One just down the road from us has been carefully located behind a tree canopy. From April to November the leaves stop it working....
Hi all,
I need all of your advise.
My bmw E46 's front coil spring snapped, I would like to know the reason for that.
I have got a warranty on my car but the insurance company insisted that the snap was due to the cold weather.
I am no expert in car. But will it be the main reason for that to happen ?
or will it be happened anyway ?
Please advise me as many reason as possible.
I will start off by the cold weather condition or maybe corrosion.
Anymore ??
thank you. Read more
True !
But in my letter, I pointed out that it can't be wear and tear cos you don't know when the coil spring are gonna to give up and it is not a service item.
Besides, it can't be the manufacturers' fault or design's fault !
It is simply the nature of the coil spring !!
Hope they will pay out.
Finger crossed !!

Hello
Someone I know is selling the above, this is the short wheel base model with the rough old Rover diesel. However it has FSH and is in good condition. I thought it may be a bit of fun for the summer with the back off. £1000 is the asking price.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

TMS, I'm glad you've already been dissuaded from the idea. In case anyone else is fancying one, don't, just don't.
OK the 2.0 TD is a world better than the miserable 1.8 petrol, but the car around it is just a joke.
Our neighbour has a Y reg one, can't tell you exactly how many times it's broke down, friends had a V reg one till recently and it was a nightmare. Everything that could break, did. Engine and interior was just falling apart, even with low miles.
There's so much better out there..
Hi my passenger side headlight has failed an mot due to poor alignment. The garage tell me i need to replace the headlight is that true. They say they have tried the bulb but it makes no differance.
Any ideas as they have quated me £180 fitted although i can get one on ebay or £60.
Is there a way of adjusting the headlight

I had nightbreakers in my Xantia and they were excellent - only trouble was they were a bit short lived. As I needed them quick I fitted "+90%" bulbs from a well known large motor factor. They are rubbish by comparison - especially at £20 EACH. I am going to order a new pair of nightbreakers. If the car has not been bumped and passed the alignment check last year, then why has it failed this year?

After the usual few scary moments*, new board installed and working fine. 3DMark2001 score improved from 172xxx to 185xxx, which seems quite good given that single/dual channel isn't supposed to affect games performance much due to the graphics card usually being the bottleneck.
Thanks again.

- Moving CPU + cooler from old board to new - always a worry. Cooler always seems more difficult to fit than it should be.
- First switch on - single beep (good) and lots of disc whirring, but no display (not so good). I'd connected up an old CRT monitor to the board's VGA output as I assumed it would default to onboard grahics, but in fact I think because I'd fitted the PCI-E graphics card it had decided to use that instead.
- First Windows login - mouse wouldn't move, so couldn't select user to login. Assumed it needed to install motherboard USB drivers before mouse would work - doh! Fortunately found an old type connector mouse lying around.
Has two batteries, which are apparently running at 25-40% efficiency.
Personally I'd probably have replaced just one on the grounds that
1) I'm stingy
2) Does a car REALLY need 2 batteries - I know Toyota advertise putting 2 batteries in the Hilux so as to avoid being let down if one dies.

Thanks all. Not my motor. It was taken into a garage as it wouldn't start. They diagnosed a blocked fuel filter (well done the garage that normally services it!), and then said that it needs two new batteries. I am always suspicious of garages taking advantage of girls.
Lo and behold, the car won't start today, either. They think it might be "electrical".
I was late paying my road tax on my Honda Civic - i'd plain forgotten for the first time in 20 years of driving. I remembered at the weekend and paid online yesterday but couldn't back pay for January. I thought it best to make the payment and follow up with the local DVLA office afterwards.
Today I got in my car to drive to work, and as soon as i set off I realised I had a problem and I stopped the car. The leaflet on my windscreen turned out to be a untaxed vehicle notice and the clamp was attached on the passenger side which I can't see from the house. I admit, I didn't notice the leaflet on the passenger side before I set off. It didn't block my field of vision, and when i pull away from the house, I'm checking for people and vehicles...I'm so used to getting slips of paper advertising cut price offers for shops etc that I didn't even "clock" it until about 1 second too late.
I rang NCP Services immediately, cursing myself for having to make another payment but just wanting to get on with it and sort my car out so i could get to work.
It was 45 minutes before they actually had the vehicle on the system so it could be processed and fines paid. When I queried why i was being fined and how I could complain etc, I spoke to a real human being who upon realising I'd paid my car tax told me no payment was necessary and they would unclamp the vehicle at no cost to myself.
So, this was a good result, but I am left with the damage to the wheel arch, and a dent caused by pressure in the panel around the arch.
Am i right to think that I should be able to pursue NCP Services for the damages as they had in effect illegally clamped my car, and if this hadn't happened, I would not have a damaged vehicle. I also think clampers have a duty to ensure fair notice is given to the driver by putting a sticker on the drivers door, or fully across the windscreen, or even knocking on the house door (which might have saved them their later revisit).
However, I am feeling quite emotional about the whole thing so am looking for some less biased feedback.
Any thoughts?
{made non make/model specific, but have added car info into main post}

Going off at a slight tangent, I've often wondered whether it's possible to fit a wheel clamp without at least damaging the wheel ~ especially if it's an alloy. I don't suppose clamps have a soft layer on the inside surface.
Hi there,
Can you please tell me where I would find the fuel pump on a Citroen C5 HDi 2002 model?
Is there a pump in the tank itself or is it under the back seat like in most Peugeots?
If anybody has pictures / etc on how to replace one that would be a huge help
Thanks.
There is a low pressure pump in the tank under the back seat which pumps diesel to the high pressure pump. I had a problem where this wasn't working but I ultimately found that the power to pump wasn't getting through due to a badly soldered pin on the mother board. Hope this helps.
In a discussion we had last autumn about the relative merits of my ageing but reliable Volvo S60 and a new C30 as my regular solo motorway transport, Honest Superhans offered this opinion:
?the C30 shares its platform with the Focus (no bad thing but not a motorway cruiser like the S60).
And that set me thinking. What is a motorway cruiser? What are the requirements for a good one? And does it have to be big?

Talking about smaller motorway cruisers:
My MG ZR I had a very comfortable seating for longer journeys & can easily keep a constant speed too, this was the 1.4 btw.
The Ford Fiesta I had previous to that had an awfully uncomfortable seat for any journey over an hour until I borrowed my Dad's cushion, it wasn't so bad.
My old Pug 205 1.1 was good at motorway work despite no working radio, it had a good fuel tank range of 500 miles on a good run. The seats were comfortable despite they had covers over them. The only criticism I had with it on the motorway was because it had a tallish body, you felt like you were being pushed about in windy conditions.

maybe another angle to the debate
www.times-series.co.uk/news/4221235.130mph__not_ex.../
I appreciate this one was not in the rain...but it was on a 50mph limit road....and a motorcyclist died...however, the motorcyclist chose to flee and crashed all on his own, albeit he knew the police cars wouldn't be far behind
my reason for posting this, is not automatic support of the officer who drove at 130mph in the rain, (I don't know all the circumstances..and the Judge would have) but in an attempt to add to the debate and ensure there is a balanced viewpoint put forward, including the angle that sometimes the speed can be needed and to a degree can be acceptable. I detect an increasing viewpoint, often from people who have no knowledge of high speed driving... that 'all speed is wrong'.... and this viewpoint CAN include the court system.
My view is close regulation by all means, strict guidelines etc...but keep a check on the ill informed hysteria
