February 2009
I collected a Diesel expert van from a mate yesterday who has had it sitting around since just before Christmas. It started ok but he did say he had to jump start it yesterday as the battery had gone flat. It wont start this morning at all, turned over fine but just refuses to start. I am contemplating changing the glow plugs. I know my way around petrol engines but diesel is alien to me although i did change the glow plugs on a diesel fiesta a couple of years ago. It drove fine yesterday and started again fine when I got home but it's not playing ball this morning :(
All help gratefully recieved.
Thanks

This looks like i've got a very dodgy car, adding 3 posts within 5 minutes.
I've had a problem with my reversing light for a few months now, but all of a sudden over the last couple of weeks, its been coming back on, but only intermittently.
I dont want to take it to an auto electrician as they can't give a price on how much it will be to even look at, never mind fix it, so if there's any solutions except changing the bulb that would be very helpful.

I had the same problem with my Focus, but when i took the bulb out to check it, I found the reverse light bulb, fitting etc to be full of water. I had to remove the fitting then empty the water out of it.
On the back of the fitting there is a small yellow rubber "breather hose" which is there to stop condensation building up, this hose was chocked with dirt, therefore alowing water to build up inside the fitting (well thats my theory anyway).
every time i take a sharp corner, or go over bumps i can hear a distinct clonk underneath the car, but the position of the clonk varies. usually in nsf footwell area, but sometimes to osr
originally i thought it was the exhaust coming loose, so have had that tightened, but it hasnt stopped the noise. have now had the suspension checked and that was ok too
so now im stumped
Any ideas,
T

You have waited nearly 10 years to answer this - it may have been sorted by now.
Could someone tell me the spark plug gap (mm) for renault clio 1.2 petrol?
Many thanks.

oem plugs are either eyquem gapped at 0.9mm or champion gapped at 0.8mm so whatever plug you have gapped between both of those should be fine.

Thought it will be appropriate to open this thread in view of recent weather.
I have no previous experience of driving in this kind of snow. Today morning I've skidded once (no damage).
So, what are the suggestions for driving in snow and slush?

I tried turning off the ESP in my Passat as I was getting fed up with the engine not revving beyond 2000rpm going up a snowy hill out of Bakewell. The wheels started spinning and the car slowed down even though the engine could more. I reingaged ESP and the speed built up again. A convincing demonstration.
My Hyundai has only ABS and I was lucky to get up an uncleared snowy hill, A5270, on the way to Buxton yesterday. The low profile tyres offer more grip than expected but keeping the revs up and sawing from lock to lock at the steering wheel kept me going .
I have an erratic idle problem on my driver, fuel economy is good, starts first time, every time. But the revs fluctuate between 500 and 800, often stalling when just warm.
Temp guage seems accurate, just had thermostat put in, which helped but its still erratic.
I've been told that these carbs are problematic.
Can anyone shed some light on my problem, i also have virtually no heat in the car, will just about demist the screen, if i turn the blower up-it makes loads of noise-like its spindle is bent and the only air i get in the car is cold.
Are these 2 things related?
Car ticks over at 900 rpm generally is this good

Hi, thanks for that am in the process of getting a weber for the car
I tried to get up a slight ramp incline covered in fresh snow to get into my drive this morning and the cars front wheels started spinning like mad which I've never experienced before in any other car The only way I was able to get in was by digging the snow out of the way. Now the abs warning light is showing. I guess all the spinning has burned out one of the sensors. Should traction control be turned off in weather like this? Read more
Thanks for the comments, very informative. Thanks VR6 and catsdad, yes the ABS light has now reset, it would just have been reassuring for Audi to have mentioned this possibility in the car manual. The other problem I've noticed, as my car has a DSG box, is that even if you slip the gearstick to the left to try and hold 2nd gear to get more traction this selection is overriden by the DSG computer when you slow to a crawl and so you are automatically shunted into 1st which is not what you want in these conditions.
Hello all,
I know this matter has been discussed plenty of time but in my case it's a bit specific.
I am currently studying in Scotland in 4th year, but i am from France. I came here from France with my car.
Yesterday night, while driving my girlfriend back home after a night out I was caught drink driving with breath test a 0.79. I'm feeling a bit down at the moment and the court will be on the 27th of February. As a student I don't have that much of money. I am totally aware that what I've done was wrong and I will assume my responsibilities but do you have any idea what kind of sentence I can expect from the court. I am a bit scared about that.
Thanks for your help.

My car seems to be overdue for injector seal renewal (75k) buy 16,000 miles.
I bought it at 89k and I've 91k on it now. I was advised by the dealer (independent) to change the copper washers under the injectors every time I service (every 5k or so) or I would end up cracking the injector holders (I think - looks like a wall-tie or two Y's stuck end-to-end).
Are these copper washers the seals that are mentioned? If so, is it a big job to do with the injectors having to be correctly torqued back on. Would it be expensive to get the dealer to do this?
Thanks. Read more
