Afternoon all

Yesterday afternoon (sat 21st) I was motoring eastbound on the M180 and in the process of overtaking saw maybe too late a mobile camera van on top of one of the police patrol vehicles only mounds.
The back windows were open so I guess it was in action. I estimate my speed to be between 75 and 80 mph measured by GPS.
Are the police allowed to do this as I saw no warning signs apart from at the bridge repair roadworks several miles earlier and am I likely to be recieving a ticket?
Thanks. Read more

Forum Roof rails

Good morning,

Are roof rails of any use or are they just an embellishment? Could trying to fit a roof rack/box to a car without roof rails cause any damage?

I remember a family holiday in about 1972 - Six of us heading down to Spain in my father's MKII Jag with old-fashioned gutter-clamped roof rack.
Stopped for lunch somewhere in the middle of France and we could not open the rear doors - The roof-rack had slid backwards along the gutter (Stopped when it got the curved bit).
This was cured by wedging my mother's holiday paperback under the back of the rack.

I mean, I'm changing oil next week, but I've been told that some 'American Motor Oils' might be harmful for these engines, so I'm getting a little confused... In past times I've used Mobil, Castrol and Shell.... Any suggestion will be welcomed! Read more

Changed Heater Plugs,Oil and Filters Also Control box for pre-post system, there is a leak somewhere in fuel system, as there is air in the manual priming pump every time I go to restart the car after a couple of hours of being parked up. Been to Citroen Dealer, HaHA ,could be faulty injector(s) might have to change 1 or could end up changing 4,at £250 a pop!Could not be sure that they would get it right first time they said.Well what if I book it in for a diagnostic test said I, No point really was the reply, just bring it in leave it overnight and we'll go from there! This reply doesn't leave me feeling confident with thier ability to solve the problem. The reply that I had gives me the feeling of "Just write me a blank cheque ". Anyone out there able to help?

hi i am having trouble with unlocking the car with fob that is built into key i have two keys both with remote buttons and 1 grey key that has no buttons, i can lock the car ok but when you press the lock button for the second time it used to double lock and activate the alarm and the led would flash on the console to tell you that it was set.. now it just locks with no alarm set....it will NOT
unlock the car you have to insert the key into the barrel and do it manually which only opens the driver door...if you get in the car and turn ignition on and use the lock /unlock button on the driver door console works ok...checked all fuses etc any ideas ... Read more

What's this UK car factory that's supposed to be on the brink of collapse?

There can't be that many that employ 6,000 people.

"Credit crunch"? What "credit crunch"?

I've just been looking back through my records and came across the following.

We took out a mortgage in 1972 at the going interest rate of 8%. At that time the maximum loan available was 85% of the value of the property (75% if the property was a flat) and our application wouldn't have even been considered if we hadn't been saving with the mortgage provider for several years beforehand. Applications had to be made in person. By 1980 the interest rate had risen to 18%. When we redeemed the mortagage in 1990 the interest rate was 16%.

That was a real "credit crunch" but nobody even thought about using such an emotive phrase. We just accepted that that was the way things were.

Had a minor crash

Turned left into a new road and got caught by very bright and low sun. caught a car going the other way (my osf damaged other car osr damage), a scrape. Now that is the basics

But already had sun glasses on and visor down but the sun was really bright I did not see the other car, I was was going really slowly anyway 10 mph if not less, and guided my car along the white lines in the road which I could see

Insurance says that it will cost me 20% claim which is reluctantly OK but they say I am fully to blame and will load my insurance with extra penalty

I do not see how I could have prevented the accident

The road is quit narrow 630cm wide so the other car would be very close to the centre of the road too, in addition their were cars parked on the pavement

OK maybe i should have stopped but then what? Some one would hit me in the rear and it be my fault also

ok thoughts please

and please keep this on topic as i posted elsewhere and got no place

One has to agree with what people are saying. But a low sun can sometimes
catch one by surprise especially if the windscreen is a bit grotty when one is
moving.

I got caught out by a low sun about two years ago - driving (slowly!) up a short, steep street one morning with the sun perfectly aligned at the end of the road, I forgot about the parked car near the end, until it suddenly emerged from the glare right in front of me. I decided to take a different route on clear mornings until well into spring after that!
