Hello,

Can you service a dizzy on these cars? (ABS engine).

Wondering whether the advance mechanisum is sticking on mine.

Looks like you can unscrew the hall effect and get to the bits below?

Hiya

Yeah i've seen similar posts. Not sure exactly what (I know what the throttle body etc is) they propose cleaning....?

Mine is MUCH improved with new dizzy cap and new dizzy arm.

Pondering the fuel supply system ATM - might be the next thing to check. Also pondering valves / head gasket as cyl 3 & 4 are slightly lower than 1-2. Hmmm.

That said - the throttle body (and injector) is also on the list to check out. Injector cleaning is tempting....

Thanks,

James

My daughter has a 08 ka that is coming up to a year old with 4500 miles. According to the ford service schedule the only thing they actually do is change the oil and oil filter. I would like to do this myself and save the service expense this first year. Can I just keep the receipts for oil and oil filter and sign the book myself or would this invalidate the warranty........ Thanks Lenny Read more

Thanks to everyone for their posts, I think I've sorted out what I'm going to do. I phoned up the Ford Dealer where car was purchased and was told the service will be £ 193 . She also said that any garage can do it as long as they use ford parts and when I mentioned the corrosion warranty only valid if serviced by ford she never heard of this. Phoned up my local garage and was quoted £ 70 plus vat. When my daughter comes home from university with ka I will read the service manual about the perforation warranty. Lenny...............

Hi People, Just like to say looking at some of the threads, what a great site, hope I can help out sometime.
Unfortunately this time it is me who needs help.
My wifes Fiesta came home last week (still running) with oil spraying on the windscreen
upon further investigation the small pipe from the bottom of the expansion tank had blown off because the tank was also full of oil. After stripping it down I found oil in the radiator, heat exchanger, and all the water pipes and waterways on the engine. To cut a long story short I took it out, bit the bullet, and bought a new engine out of a 58 plate car with 1900 miles on. I was informed they were the same, I changed the diesel pump as I thought the PATS were in the pump, I also changed the crank & cam sensors as the plugs were different, and also the mass air sensor. A new radiator and heat exchanger later, I figured we were ready to go, not at all, now the engine management light is on and it will not turn over more than 3 times then it stops. Somebody told me they are not the same, and i'll need a later ECU to run it, is there any end to it,can we not work on our cars any more, I would welcome any suggestions, thanks Read more

Hi everyone

Been having a problem recently with my 406. Had a second hand fuel tank fitted after the old one was vandalised and this seems to be when the problems started. At idle it runs very poorly and even when I drive it there is a heavy crackling noise. I think it is missing and this is causing the noise. It can get a bit better when it warms up and occasionally it runs OK for a couple of days. If I drive a lot it can also run a bit better. I am wondering if there is a problem with the fuel flow from the "new" tank. If I have to stop on a slight uphill gradient it can even stall at idle. One other thing that leads me to the fuel flow issue is that it will run perfectly if I park with the nearside wheels up on the kerb.

I have had an anti pollution fault come up a few times. P0190. On the scanner used it said "Fuel Pressure Regulation - Pressure Coherence" but I have seen this more commonly described as "Fuel Pressure Sensor Circuit Malfunction". If the fuel isn't flowing properly would this cause this DTC? I am wondering if there is something in the fuel tank that may clog the uplift pump but moves away when the car is at a certain angle. This could also be why it runs better when I drive a lot. Maybe the constant movement allows the pump to draw fuel OK. I have tried keeping it well over half a tank full but it still runs badly. Sometimes taking from a quarter to half tank seems to help for w hile. and I wonder if this stirs up whatever might be clogging the pump, if the pump is clogging.

This is all assuming the problem is related to the change of fuel tank. I'm reluctant to keep it too full of diesel because the reason I needed a new tank was that someone tried to drain off the diesel by making a hole in the bottom of the old tank.

VIN number is VF38BRHZF81410209.

Hope someone can help as this is driving me up the wall. All people keep saying to me is that it's a strange problem which doesn't really help at all.

Thanks in advance

Alan

You could position the car at an angle that would normally give the fault symptoms.
Disconnect the fuel feed pipe between the filter & engine.
Direct this pipe into a container then switch on the ignition.
This will start the tank pump which will run for just a few seconds.
You should get at least 100ml of fuel through in that time.
If not you know you have some sort of fuel blockage & will need to work your way back towards the tank pump to see when you get a good fuel flow.
Every time you switch on the ignition the pump will run for the same few seconds.

I have aquired a 2006 x type 2.0d estate which has a set of worn 205/55/16 tyres and in my shed I have a set of new 225/55/16 tyres if I change them then the speedo is going to read 2.5 mph slow at 60mph my logic says because that speedos over estimate speed that it should balance itself out.Are there any flaws in my theory it seems a shame to have to buy new tyres when I have these others in stock and being a true Yorkshire man wallet comes first. Andy doesn't tell us what rims the tyres are going on but a rim of 7 or 7.5 inches will take both tyre sizes.
7" rim will take between 195 and 225, 7.5" will take 205 to 235.

Hi,

I seem to have a problem with the car turning over but not firing. Latest was on Monday 16th Feb 2009. I got a diagnosics check done on it and it showed no faults. Worst part was when he turned up car started after two days.

Its not the first time its happened but that has been the longest to get it to start again. I was told it wasn't a mechanical or electrical problem.

Can anybody help?

Update on above,

At long last the problem has been resolved. it was a ignition relay fault. Known as relay 109 (Google it ) It wa a common problem with just not my vehicle but VW diesels vehicles as well.

When the glow plug didn't light up on dash car wouldn't start. AA man said they use to carry spares years ago because of the problem. Relay was superceeded in 2003.

Hope this is of use too anyone.

Hi,When I put my Nissan Almera Tino SE into reverse I no longer get a picture on the screen. Just a blank screen with the yellow text at the bottom saying "please check rear before reversing" Anybody got any idea what could be the cause of this problem? Read more

I used to have a tino, didn't have a problem with the camera - or anything else with mine, but I'm fairly sure water ingress into the camera itself is a known problem.

Try searching the same question on nissan primera owners forum.

I must be getting old and a miserable so and so to boot.

Today I saw two 58 Reg metallic silver motoring school Focuses (Focii?) belonging to that chain once claiming to be the fourth emergency service. The learner driver cars had dark tinted back and rear side windows. This for learners ? Why not go all the way and teach them in vans. Why not bling alloy wheels too!

OK, I suppose it's to help later resale of the cars but I don't think it makes any sense at all. Read more

So what's the problem with "privacy glass" - not being able to see out or not being able to see in? My only gripe with darkened rear window glass is that it does tend to convert the car in question into a van, by blocking out information about the road ahead (e.g. other drivers' brake lights). As long as it's legal (no more than 30% reduction in light penetration IIRC) and as long as it is not fitted to the front door windows, then I don't have a problem. There will always be drivers in cars with more bling than mine, who sit higher up, go faster or have darker glass. C'est la vie.
The other side of the coin is that darkened glass (especially in the car in front) does help cut down GLARE: Glare from the third brake lamps in queues of traffic and glare from the ever more popular HID lights. I'm really quite happy for the chav, sorry driver, in front, to absorb all that nasty glare before it hits me.

GM is bust it would seem. This is an attempt to separate the GM and Saab operations and then find someone to take over Saab.

Agree on the new models though.
