2000 1.9tdi Starts won't start - pigmix
Hi,

I seem to have a problem with the car turning over but not firing. Latest was on Monday 16th Feb 2009. I got a diagnosics check done on it and it showed no faults. Worst part was when he turned up car started after two days.

Its not the first time its happened but that has been the longest to get it to start again. I was told it wasn't a mechanical or electrical problem.

Can anybody help?

Assuming this is a PD unit, it's worth bearing in mind that the no-speed safety circuit in the ECU will not allow any fuel into the engine unless the cranking speed exceeds a threshold - I think about 250 rpm. Is the battery in good shape?

Update,

Still having problems trying to find out the problem.

Battery been checked, immobilizer ok, fuel sender pump ok. I know its like trying to find a needle in a hay stack.

Update on above,

At long last the problem has been resolved. it was a ignition relay fault. Known as relay 109 (Google it ) It wa a common problem with just not my vehicle but VW diesels vehicles as well.

When the glow plug didn't light up on dash car wouldn't start. AA man said they use to carry spares years ago because of the problem. Relay was superceeded in 2003.

Hope this is of use too anyone.
