Im in the process of buying a berlingo 1.9d van with 79000 on the clock, when I asked if the timing belt had been done recently the dealer said it had a timing chain and didn't need regular changing. Is he correct? Read more
the 2.0 hdi has 100,000 mile change intervals. Citroen dealer quoted me £200 over the phone.
I know thats a different engine, but the same vehicle - also the HDi needs a new crank pulley as part of the change.
Gives you an upper limit.
Edit to say that if the dealer is giving info that incorrect then you need to reduce the price by the cost or think of looking elsewhere.

It does not need to be motoring related. In fact, in this thread it should not be.

I work for an LTD. It sells a service, but as as a sideline, has sold some products. More focus is being devoted to these product sales, and specific individuals within the company are now allocated to this side of the business, whilst still beying fully employed by the LTD, but the company through which the products are sold is an LLP
anything obvious I ought the be aware of ?
Parked in a London supermarket car park and have been issued with a demand for payment as my car was there over the prescribed 2 hours , which it was by about 30 mins. Fair cop
What can these companies do - what will happen in the event of non payment ? at least with council issued tickets you can appeal / explain. Do these mobs eventually resort to baillifs / clamping ? Read more
Only trying to help, the average car driver doesnt carry out commercial activity in their local supermarket car park. Admittedly there are people with legal expertese here who may choose to pass an opinion on car (msa) park operators.
Hi
I am looking for advice on which car to buy my elderly mother (80 yrs old and with one hip replaced). She has been used to driving an aged Fiat Punto but this does not have power steering and is beginning to get long in the tooth.
What she would like is a reliable, cheap to run, easy to get into and easy to drive small car. Has anybody any ideas?
Thank you. Read more
Will the car survive frequent low mileage engine cold trips?>>
Very fair question, but how do you find out the answer?!
On the other hand, perhaps at 80 (with respect) OP's Mum won't be too bothered about that.
As if things couldn't get worse....

I don't usually use Kwik-Fit outlets but today I had occasion to use my local Kwik-Fit for a 'slow puncture' problem on my spare wheel. On returning within a couple of hours the fitter informed me that they had fully tested the tyre and had replaced the valve. I saw that the tyre had been fitted with a new valve complete with core and cap and that the wheel had also been newly balanced. The fitter then re-placed the wheel into my car and amazingly told me that there was no charge for the service!
One big round of applause for Kwik-Fit on this occasion. Read more
With some trepidation, I booked my Cavalier into a North London branch for new front brake pads a couple of years back. While their 'brake test' did show up worn rear shoes (despite the drums having been done recently) and corroded front discs, neither of which concerned the MOT tester six months later, they did complete the job in hand quickly - and then informed me that the pads were currently half price, costing me in total the princely sum of £30. I was pleasantly surprised!
I need to replace the Trailing Arm bushes in the rear suspension arms of a Rover 416.
These are the large rubber bearings approximately in the middle of the suspension arms.
Can the replacement be done in place with DIY tools or do I need any special tools for this, does the suspension arm have to come off to press the bushes out & in.
Any help or advice would be welcome, Vinnie,

>>Can the bushes be knocked out & in with a hammer or does it need special tools
The tool for the job is about £150 last time I looked, but I used hammer and drift, taking it easy on the job took me around 2-2 1/2 hours to do and they are not hard to do funny enough hardest part of the job was removing the handbrake cable the spring wouldnt stay back to remove cable it kept slipping back, other wise its an easy job IMO for anyone
Hi ,
I am having trouble changing the dipped beam headlight drivers side. My hands seem to be a bit to big, and the car has aircon which has several pipes just where I want to put my hands.
So my question before I force a socket on the bulb holder ! is how easy is it to take the headlamp out, to give that precious room. Is there only the one bolt visible on the top or will there be a bit more body work dismantling. or shpould I just go to Halfords and pay them to change it ?
obviously not a problem that has been encountered before.
I ended up getting Halfords to replace it, the gentleman could not replace it so he called an able female assistant with smaller hands who managed to do the job. All for a £5.
And to answer the question the bolt on the top of the headlight is one of ??? more.
Snipquote!
Cheers for that HJ, have just completed the form.
Note as well as 24 hr drive, you can also have a weekend test drive - deliver to your office Fri pm and picked up from there Mon am. Thats what I have gone for. Read more
Maybe I'm missing something but I don't really see why the Renault audio controls are any better to many others I've experienced. I mean it's hardly rocket science is it, you want one control to adjust the volume, another to select different CD tracks, another to skip through radio channels and perhaps another as MUTE. Yes I found the Renault controls to work very well but so do they on other vehicles I've driven.
I agree 100% with DP's points, our experience was an unfortunate blend of excellence bordering on brilliance, ruined by lousy build quality and ropey electrics. If Renault can slay these dragons then I think they could do extremely well. Maybe they have and we shall soon found out...
The New Megane is a very likeable car but ultimately rather dull after the MK2 and doesn't seem to move the game on at all. In all the car tests I've seen it's come out as average. The general consensus seems to be it's a much better car than the MK2 but the Focus and Golf are still better. It's all opinion of course and people can draw their own conclusions but I don't see the MK3 sweeping across Europe as Renault did with the MK2. Somehow it's a bit too dull, too unRenault-like, ultimately competent but just a little disappointing.
I am not anti-Renault BTW, on the contrary we've run quite a few and used to be very pleased with them but the quality seemed to take a nose dive circa 2000. I believe in giving second chances though and we are currently looking at the New Megane but we want the 2.0dCi so we've got a bit of a wait :-(
