Hi can anybody help.Bought an espace and a warranty (endorsed by a well known motoring critic),paid extra for wear and tear and turbo cover. When car went for service we asked the garage to check for oil leak as we noticed a drop on drive, couldnt find anything.three weeks later during christmas took car back this time oil leak found advised not to use car and was booked in for investigation.Intercooler and turbo failed so warranty company rang by garage who sent engineer out.Warranty will not pay or help with repair due to:quote-intercooler was contaminated with oil and was also visualy oil stained around the area where the unit had been leaking which would be considered progressive in development and would not be considered a sudden breakage, there was slightly excessive lift on the turbine and oil contamination which in the absence of any actual breakage the cause would be consistent with general in service wear and deterioration of the turbo support bush and seals.Apparentley the warranty company sums up as saying the policy does not cover for any items which have not suffered a sudden and unforseen breakdown, but which are simply worn out.The car is a 53 reg 2.2 dci espace with service history and 71k on the clock.Has anybody any advice as it seems to me this company is hiding behind weasel words and clauses(not my words-check the ad). My sympathies von+c I have the exact same car and bought the exact same warranty. Over the three years I paid for the warranty (why? who knows?) I was refused 8 out of 10 claims I tried to make on my Espace, 9 out of 10 until I complained to the well-known motoring journalist you refer to who intervened on my behalf. Total amount invested in warranty around £2K, payouts only about £250 in total. They are of absolutely no use to anyone considering buying an Espace (probably any common rail diesel actually). There are clauses that get them out of paying on injectors/egrvalves/rocker covers/electronic dashboards, exactly the expensive problems one will encounter if unlucky enough to buy one of these cars. It's a complete sham and this practise of endorsing these warranties by journalists and newspapers frankly pretty shameful.

The tailgate on my son-in-law's Megane estate will not open. It would appear that the lock solenoid may have failed. As the tail door can not be opened, is there anyway the taildoor can be opened from the inside, please?
When you operate the remote blip to open the taildoor, the hazard lights still flash. There is no clicking noise from the solenoid either.
Thanks in advance of any assistance. Read more

As far as I'm aware, Comdo's new Internet Security Suite:

Im in the process of buying a berlingo 1.9d van with 79000 on the clock, when I asked if the timing belt had been done recently the dealer said it had a timing chain and didn't need regular changing. Is he correct? Read more

the 2.0 hdi has 100,000 mile change intervals. Citroen dealer quoted me £200 over the phone.

I know thats a different engine, but the same vehicle - also the HDi needs a new crank pulley as part of the change.

Gives you an upper limit.

Edit to say that if the dealer is giving info that incorrect then you need to reduce the price by the cost or think of looking elsewhere.

So why do you want to know?

I work for an LTD. It sells a service, but as as a sideline, has sold some products. More focus is being devoted to these product sales, and specific individuals within the company are now allocated to this side of the business, whilst still beying fully employed by the LTD, but the company through which the products are sold is an LLP

anything obvious I ought the be aware of ?

Parked in a London supermarket car park and have been issued with a demand for payment as my car was there over the prescribed 2 hours , which it was by about 30 mins. Fair cop

What can these companies do - what will happen in the event of non payment ? at least with council issued tickets you can appeal / explain. Do these mobs eventually resort to baillifs / clamping ? Read more

Only trying to help, the average car driver doesnt carry out commercial activity in their local supermarket car park. Admittedly there are people with legal expertese here who may choose to pass an opinion on car (msa) park operators.

Hi

I am looking for advice on which car to buy my elderly mother (80 yrs old and with one hip replaced). She has been used to driving an aged Fiat Punto but this does not have power steering and is beginning to get long in the tooth.

What she would like is a reliable, cheap to run, easy to get into and easy to drive small car. Has anybody any ideas?

Thank you. Read more

Will the car survive frequent low mileage engine cold trips?>>

Very fair question, but how do you find out the answer?!
On the other hand, perhaps at 80 (with respect) OP's Mum won't be too bothered about that.

I don't usually use Kwik-Fit outlets but today I had occasion to use my local Kwik-Fit for a 'slow puncture' problem on my spare wheel. On returning within a couple of hours the fitter informed me that they had fully tested the tyre and had replaced the valve. I saw that the tyre had been fitted with a new valve complete with core and cap and that the wheel had also been newly balanced. The fitter then re-placed the wheel into my car and amazingly told me that there was no charge for the service!

One big round of applause for Kwik-Fit on this occasion. Read more

With some trepidation, I booked my Cavalier into a North London branch for new front brake pads a couple of years back. While their 'brake test' did show up worn rear shoes (despite the drums having been done recently) and corroded front discs, neither of which concerned the MOT tester six months later, they did complete the job in hand quickly - and then informed me that the pads were currently half price, costing me in total the princely sum of £30. I was pleasantly surprised!

Could anyone assist please? Car has factory manual sunroof. Whenever it rains, water appears on the interior trim to the front door/winscreen pillers at the top near roof lining panel. Floor carpet also wet. Have taped externally over the sunroof glass, gasket and onto the surrouding steel of the roof. Less water now seems to be coming in. Are there drain tubes from the sunroof "frame"? Where are they routed?
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks pj66. Read more

r.j.b.

Yes there are two drain tubes from the front corners of the sunroof, they exit n/s & o/s rear of front wings into the drains for the bulk head. To view and to check all the drain system is working correctly you must remove: wipers & arms, plastic panel, wiper motor& linkage, windscreen wash bottle, open the sun roof and blow back up the pipes to check they are clear. There is also a drain pipe that takes water away from around the heater motor bowl, it is just to the n/s of the heater unit worth a check as water ponds around heater and seeps into foot wells. The pipe fills with"crud" remove and clean. use a watering can and pour water into the back of the inner wings, water should exit under body rear of front wheels. If you have water in foot wells it is worth removing heater while you are in that area, it has a sponge type seal, apply a bead of silicone and refit. This will cure most leaks on Clio`s it did mine.
