I need to replace the Trailing Arm bushes in the rear suspension arms of a Rover 416.
These are the large rubber bearings approximately in the middle of the suspension arms.
Can the replacement be done in place with DIY tools or do I need any special tools for this, does the suspension arm have to come off to press the bushes out & in.
Any help or advice would be welcome, Vinnie,

Hi ,
I am having trouble changing the dipped beam headlight drivers side. My hands seem to be a bit to big, and the car has aircon which has several pipes just where I want to put my hands.
So my question before I force a socket on the bulb holder ! is how easy is it to take the headlamp out, to give that precious room. Is there only the one bolt visible on the top or will there be a bit more body work dismantling. or shpould I just go to Halfords and pay them to change it ?

obviously not a problem that has been encountered before.
I ended up getting Halfords to replace it, the gentleman could not replace it so he called an able female assistant with smaller hands who managed to do the job. All for a £5.
And to answer the question the bolt on the top of the headlight is one of ??? more.
Snipquote!
Cheers for that HJ, have just completed the form.
Note as well as 24 hr drive, you can also have a weekend test drive - deliver to your office Fri pm and picked up from there Mon am. Thats what I have gone for. Read more
Maybe I'm missing something but I don't really see why the Renault audio controls are any better to many others I've experienced. I mean it's hardly rocket science is it, you want one control to adjust the volume, another to select different CD tracks, another to skip through radio channels and perhaps another as MUTE. Yes I found the Renault controls to work very well but so do they on other vehicles I've driven.
I agree 100% with DP's points, our experience was an unfortunate blend of excellence bordering on brilliance, ruined by lousy build quality and ropey electrics. If Renault can slay these dragons then I think they could do extremely well. Maybe they have and we shall soon found out...
The New Megane is a very likeable car but ultimately rather dull after the MK2 and doesn't seem to move the game on at all. In all the car tests I've seen it's come out as average. The general consensus seems to be it's a much better car than the MK2 but the Focus and Golf are still better. It's all opinion of course and people can draw their own conclusions but I don't see the MK3 sweeping across Europe as Renault did with the MK2. Somehow it's a bit too dull, too unRenault-like, ultimately competent but just a little disappointing.
I am not anti-Renault BTW, on the contrary we've run quite a few and used to be very pleased with them but the quality seemed to take a nose dive circa 2000. I believe in giving second chances though and we are currently looking at the New Megane but we want the 2.0dCi so we've got a bit of a wait :-(
Crossing the A66 yesterday, the illuminated signs said "road closed to high sided vehicles" - and with good reason; I crossed it at 50mph. Along the way I overtook an HGV.
I dare say that a couple of miles later he might have been having second thoughts about his decision to ignore the signs, as we passed an HGV lying on its side... scary.

I was encountered a very stormy, squally shower on the way home from work.
There must have been gusts up to storm force or more. In one exposed place the driver of a 7.5 tonne box van had stopped on the carriageway. Gusts of wind were lifting the wheels on the windward side off the ground, threatening to blow the van onto its side....
Say, for argument sake, my current MOT expires on 1st April. If I get the MOT test done early, e.g. the start of march, and it fails, does that invalidate my current MOT or is that still valid until the 1st April?
i.e. If it failed an MOT at the start of March can I continue to drive until the 1st April using my old certificate? Read more
Yeah, old mot is fine!
An MOT test has absolutely no, zero, zilch, status in law, apart from the legal necessity of having one.
ive got a 306 dturbo ,problem is the rev counter ,itseems to have a itermitent fault ,it seems to work then goes off ? Read more
Yep!
Just had it working this morning - whilst engine was running I disconnected the connector I described in Photo B (3 pin, grey and black connector) that the sensor attaches to at the front and it cut out! voila! to check I put a multimeter across the two pins and got a reading - so the sensor was transmitting.
Then tried engine about half an hour later and rev counter was off. Multimeter tested connection again and there was no reading! Superb!
So I concur - I need a new sensor! Balls... another trip to the scrapyard..
On nother note that you mentioned Richard - the Connector i described in photo C on my first post.. Is the Reverse light switch.. so it wasnt a good idea driving around without that plugged in for a few days to test the rev counter..
Thanks for your help!
Hello
my ford Focus key fob has a collapsed switch, it no longer has a click/feel to it. And i am unable to open car with it as it is constantly tring to lock the car and put immobilser on.
was wondering if it possible to just get another keyfob and swap over the PCB in the key and use the normal reprogramming method for C/L.
And if so where do i stand with the immobilser side of things, is this chip embedded in C/L PCB or is it actually in any other part of key?
Seems silly to have to pay stupid prices for replacement keyfob for the sake of a tiny microswitch
Any advice appreciated Read more
You could probably swap the PCB half of the key/fob and then programme this monster to the car using a second hand fob and method 1.
Has anyone out there had a similar to problem to this? At 50000 miles (and 4 years old) my water pump siezed throwing the timing belt off and wrecking the engine. Vauxhall, of course, do not want to know.
I believe that this engine is also fitted into come Alfa's SAAB's and Fiats Read more
Damn, Just changed the cambelt on my 2004 1.9 CDTI at 70k for peace of mind, but not the water pump. So much for peace of mind now!
Mechanic said he'd examined the pump and it seemed ok though.
There is no Haynes manual available for the CMax and I have a number of jobs to do on mine. The first two being replacing the drivers door restraining strap (how do I remove the door trim?) and the other is how do I get at the heater fan as it's noisy when cold.
The Ford TIS (Technical Information System) is available on ebay. Anyone used it? Will it explain how to carry out jobs like the ones above?

Thanks for the useful replies.
Having just switched from RFT`s to conventional tyres, the tyre supplier was not 100% sure as to the correct tyre pressure, they have inflated to the same level as the run flats.
Could someone please confirm if this is correct or not ?
Incidentally, I know H.J. is an advocate of RFT`s, but the improvement to the ride, steering control and reduction in road noise has totally transformed the car for the better.
There is no question that in cold weather, RFT`s are positively dangerous with serious tramlining and bone shaking ride. Read more
I thought it would other way round if anything, because BMW say their tyres are part of the ED package with low rolling resistance. So what size wheels/tyres do you have and what make of new tyre have you gone for? I'm on the original Bridgestone Potenzas on 18" rims. No probs with road noise, it's the tramlining I find alarming on certain stretches of motorway. All in all you seem to make a convincing case Dude for ditching the run-flats.

>>Can the bushes be knocked out & in with a hammer or does it need special tools
The tool for the job is about £150 last time I looked, but I used hammer and drift, taking it easy on the job took me around 2-2 1/2 hours to do and they are not hard to do funny enough hardest part of the job was removing the handbrake cable the spring wouldnt stay back to remove cable it kept slipping back, other wise its an easy job IMO for anyone
