piston power

This astra with 18k on the clock seem poor for good heat it takes me 6 miles to work at constant driving and the heater gets hot after about 3-4 miles.

I know it's cold at minus -3, but it's been the same since new, i think the stat opens a bit soon like 65c not the 83 it should be?

How long does your cars/van etc take to get hot?

Had other cars that seem to get hotter faster, maybe i need a new thermostat or im getting soft! Read more

If there's a fault in the circuit the ECU warns you.

Thats ok but a gauge fitted would have been better than a light that comes on just before it goes bang! lol

At least you can see it creeping up to the red so you can check a few things first, seems a stupid way to me but thats my opinion.

I recently sent my driver's licence in to the DVLA for renewal. They have sent me a 14-page medical questionnaire for completion. This may be routine now for elederly drivers but the "event" that seems mostly to concern them took place 50 months ago and I have been OK since. I can't see any problem in completing the forms but wonder if I should add a covering letter noting that:-

-I passed the IAM test (before the event)
-I recently had a top-up lesson
-I have attended two local authority brush-up driving classroom sessions in recent years and am booked in for a third on January 27th.

-or does this look like special pleading and be likely to lead to futher complications? What does the Forum think? Read more

Agree with David H.

Thie issue here is fitness to drive and no doubt the questionirre covers vision, circualtion including any cerebral incidents, epilepsy or other lapses of consciousness etc etc.

Thirty years accident free and any IAM etc I may have will count for nowt if by tomorrow I'm found to have tunnel vision. Mrs B's cousin is just coming to the end of a twelve month suspension of her licence after she was found on the floor of her office - possible epilepsy?

Today i have had the labor lambda sensor replaced but the engine light on the dashboard is still lit.

Number_Cruncher

Much more likely is that the sensor has been replaced in error.

Just because a lambda fault code is stored does not mean the lambda sensor must be faulty - it could very well have been faithfully reporting a rich or weak mixture resulting from a fault elsewhere in the fuel system or air intake system.

Don`t know if i`m on right thread, but wonder if anyone can help. My husband parked car while going for chinese, came back out and started engine and it revved, he didn`t really think anything of it and proceeded to put car into reverse and car sped back crashed into side of car behind and went over middle embankment to other side of road, while all this was happening he was hitting brake and son was pulling up hand brake and the car still would not stop. He said the car reversed at an incredible speed, yet he had not touched the accelerator. luckily they were ok, but i am worried about this car as i have read about sticking accelerator problems on this car. can anyone give advice, thanks. I totally believe how your accelerator revved. I have a similar problem with my 2003 1.4 diesel c3. Whilst waiting at a roundabout in first gear, i just started to pull away, when the accelerator pedal pulled away from my foot as if the cable had snapped. the car shot forward nearly hitting a car that had just pulled away in front of me. Fortunately, I dipped the clutch and hit the brakes and turned off the ignition all within a couple of seconds. a passerby helped me push the car to the side of the road as I told him "I think the accelerator cable had snapped". When I got back into the car, I noticed the Accelerator pedal had returned to its correct position, so I started the engine and all was normal again.
I called the next day to my local Citroen dealer, spoke to a technician who told me that what I had described was impossible.
Since then, whilst driving off in first gear(briskly) the accelerator has stayed down for several seconds, revving hard, then returned to normal.
Anyone got any ideas, other than pedal caught on carpet.

Does anyone have any homebrew type screenwash mix ups, which would be suitable for the present cold snap. As well as the cost some retailers seem to be running low and i had to try two fillings stations and a supermarket to stock up this evening. Read more

My 2003 2.2 X Trail Diesel struggles to start in cold weather even though the engine cranks over well. The glow plug light is indicating normally. It starts OK when the weather is above freezing. A friend suggests that the glow plugs may need changing. Any thoughts from anyone? Read more

Have you replaced the fuel filter? on the diesel models they can suffer from moisture in the filter, which freezes, then restrics the flow of diesel. Had the same on my 2004 2.2 but if i could start it, it would run really "lumpy" when accelerating. Try a new filter and fill the filter first with a good diesel injector cleaner...worked wonders on mine!

Hi, not sure if this belongs in IHAQ so mods feel free to move.

I got made redundant today, as i was only in the job for 8 months then i wont be getting much redundancy.
I worked in IT selling service & support contracts etc. Instead of being down about the situation I'm thinking of grabbing the bull by the horns and starting up on my own, in the same field. I have no major commitments such as children or wife etc and have always wanted to start my own company.
I am obviously apprehensive with the current economic situation, but equally concerned that i will be able to find normal employment. I started fixing home computers for friends and family around 6 months ago and this has grown quite a bit, I am now eager to expand this into local businesses.

Can anyone who is involved with IT or has their own business off me any advice of any sort.

Thanks in advance

brain-picking time again chaps!

another of my friends (i have a few!) who has a bigger house than the usual ones in town (2 storey + attics!) has just finished a loft conversion, which he intends to use as a "personal-escape/leisure" room. However his telephone point/router is on the ground-floor front windowsill, and in the attic he can only get a hitty/miss 2bar signal on his wireless laptop. He has a spare Linksys wireless router, would it be possible to set this up as a booster in the attic, to connect wirelessly to the router and hence the internet downstairs?
He doesn't really want the expense of installing another telephone socket in the attic,so the attic router would simply be plugged into the mains (no ethernet or phone line connected). I've never actually heard of this being done, is it in anyway possible?

Thanks for any help/suggestions as usual ;)

But a CD-R or CD-RW written as a data CD with files on is also very different to the layout if written as an audio CD.

So what purpose does the OP have for the music once written to a CD or DVD?

I was wondering whether anyone had any comments on the following:

I'm thinking about getting an 05 1.8 petrol Toyota Verso T-Spirit. 25K £8k.

My only concern is it's CO2 figure is 184 g/km which will be Band I (or even Band J on the now postponed VED rates [ news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_depth/629/629/7293011.stm ] . I'm just a bit concerned that if/when the Government bring in the postponed higher rates the tax on it will be ~£300 it will be even harder to sell than 4x4s are now?

Looking at some of the latest Petrol engines are better than most recent Diesels, say the new Toyota Avensis ( www.honestjohn.co.uk/road_tests/index.htm?id=361&s...e ). So if by some miracle I was looking to trade the car in 4-5 years from now it would be even less than squat. I was wondering whether it might be best to sit tight for 2.0 05/55 D4D T3 for a similar mileage/price or a diesel Spirit with+40K on the clock. I guess the fuel/service costs vs economy pretty much cancel themselves out on my annual mileage, 4-5k a year 60% of which is city driving. .

I've driven both the Petrol and the Diesel and apart from the obvious Torque differences can't say I noticed a whole lot of difference.

Any thoughts much appreciated. Read more

In my heart any MPV is not me. I am single, no kids and just feel that a MPV is something that people have when you have a SO and a few kids. Someone commented back before Christmas that you only live once and that I should just go for the CRV. I think I will if I can find one for a realistic price.
