Can anyone tell me how to adjust the clock on a Ford Ka please?

A signal is sent thro' RDS to set the clock; the radio usually needs to be on a RDS station for at least three minutes for it to correct. Most RDS radios have a time display function tho' you may need to read the instructions to get them to display it.

Filling up today at the pumps (helping to increase BP's profits once more), looked up and saw a guy sitting in his car outside the shop, quite happily puffing away on a fag and casually flicking the ash to the ground.

Got me thinking:

(a.) How often do other Backroomers see such a thing?
(b.) Was it as dangerous as I thought - o.k. the ash might cool quickly by the time it hits the ground, but the ground was still covered from the elements - so any excess fuel wouldn't be washed away as quickly as if it wasn't??

Why didn't I say anything to him? Well, he had the build of Geoff Capes (what a guy!) and I am allergic to pain. Read more

I was filling up at Tesco when someone popped out of the shop and onto the forecourt for a smoke, an unintended consequence of the smoking ban.

I have a 2003 1.6 auto C3 with climate control.

I cannot switch the fan off!

Before, if I pressed the MINUS button on the fan control until the shaded bits of the fan disappeared the fan would stop. Now it just keeps going at the same rate, even when I press the PLUS button [all blades of fan go dark-normal]

If I press the AIR-RECYCLING button the fan increases speed, BUT I think this is another fan cutting in [my guess!]
Any ideas please?
Please ask if you would like more information.

Hi,
I am new to this forum as my C3 hasn't had any problems 'til now. Unlike aswasawas my heater fan does not come on, although the display shows it as on.
Would this be the same cause do you think ie the elecronic fan speed controller, as I have checked that the fuse is OK. Or is there anything else I could try before resorting to the Citroen garage and a large bill!
Thanks for your time.

saxo problem

Problems with my Saxo 1.4 furio

Basically i got in my car one morning to start the car & the immobiliser light kept flashing (coil light) when i turned the key and the engine wont start.

Garages wont touch my car as they said the immobiliser problems lays within my ECU as they come standard with immobilisers, although i have a toad alarm.

Took the car down to Citroen and they charged me £40 to diagnose the car. They told me the codes for the ECU, CDI unit and the key fob all match up n they suspect the problems lies within the toad alarm. They then tried charging me £300 quid to look at the wires on the car.

I now have no idea where i lie with this problem. Citroen are telling me it MIGHT be the alarm and the garages are tellin me its within the ECU.

Can anyone plz help me coz its costing me a lot of money at the min and its takin up a lot of my time towing the car bak and forth.

Is there anyway at all i can bypass the immobiliser as i have an alarm anyway? If not has anyone else got any ideas?

My Suzuki IGNIS 1.5 Sport is 3 1/2 years old (18,000 mls) and was last serviced 8 months ago by a Suzuki dealer. It has done about 5,000 miles in the last 8 months.
As I am very satisfied with it (very reliable and drives extremely well), I intend to keep it another 3 years then will part-ex it (it will not be worth much in 3 yrs time but never mind).

1) Does it need an oil change now? (HJ often advocates an oil change every 6 mths after the 1st year, am I right?). If so, would the filter need changing?

2) The oil level at the moment is between low and full (I have never added any oil in the engine, has never needed it between services). Does it need a top up?

3) I do not know what sort of oil they put in last time in March when they serviced it. I have some Shell Helix Ultra 5W-30 Fully synthetic at home, can I use that if it needs a top up?

Any help would be much appreciated.

OK, thanks a lot for the info.

Bizarrely, I checked the oil an hour ago (engine cold) and it was up to full (2 wks ago it was between the two marks -engine was cold as well).

I need to have my timing belt replaced on my Mazda Tribute as it is approaching 5 yrs old(35,000 mls), might seem early but I've had my fingers burnt before and prefer to pre-empt any problems now by changing belt early.

How do I know how much I should be charged? (Mazda main dealer is quoting me £400)

How long is that job? Read more

My Tribute is a 2L and has a timing belt, but I take it now after reading various posts, etc. that it doesn't need changing until next year at least (has only done 35,000). What I'd like to know though is:

1) In terms of years, when should you change a timing belt? (I thought, maybe wrongly that 4-5 yrs was the right time regardless of mileage)

2) Is the engine on the Tribute GXi is "free running" or "interference"? The familycar.com says "free running" but others on here say it is "interference".

Hi guys, i have a corsa SRi 1.4i on a 2001 plate {Added to subject header as will be seen there before opening the post}

I have noticed that the steering wheel has a bit of play in it, ie if you are stationary with the engine running you can turn it a fraction left and right and it feels loose - not friction.

Also if you are travelling over rough roads or over speed ramps it also feels loose and tends to rattle a bit.

The wife has said she kerbed it (only going slowly she says) so i have had the tracking and checked and reset as it was out but it's still looseness (if thats a word) is still there.

Anyone help me out with a few suggestions.

Cheers for looking

Is it just the accumulated effect of normal wear and tear on the steering rack and all the different joints? In the days before MOTs free play in the steering was common ~ and accepted.

have run a 2003 110bhp (none-PD) diesel for last year. Intermittent fault, where occasionally it felt like the turbo had ceased to run BUT it was easily cured by stopping and switching off and on, and turbo would reappear. To my mind it was either the MAF or the connection to it (that you have to break when you change the air filter).
As it had 1 year warranty, advised wife to take to Skoda garage, with my suggestion, as warranty would pay (but not for diagnosis).
Skoda agent said computer said MAF or turbo fault, and swopped the MAF for a new one, saying to run it for a couple of weeks, and if it recurred it was the turbo (and they would refit the original MAF)
Just after they did this the problem recurred, as they retested it, and they have now ordered a new turbo, and warranty is willing to pay for parts and labour (but not diagnosis).
Does this sound right. To me, that it got cured by turning ignition on and off pointed to electronic failure, not mechanical Read more

For some reason everybody seems to think I am an expert on taxis! A friend has run a V6 Galaxy for the past 6/7 years. The running costs have always been high but this year there have been some horrendous servicing/repair costs (current mileage 140k). With ever larger ones looming he has decided to give up on it. Anyway Dick has never been what you would call a car enthusiast but prefers the more unusual. He did not learn to drive until his mid-twenties and his first car was an ancient Sunbeam Talbot 90! Dick has decided he now wants something totally different. The first choice was a VW camper but he has decided this is something for the future as although two children are no longer at home three still have to be transported regularly. Anyway he has decided a London taxi would be ideal and has a budget of about £5,000. Has anybody any experience of running one as a private car? Should he stick to an FX or are MetroCabs OK?, etc.

Called at Trafficmaster today to get my yq unit repaired (dead pixels on screen).

Expected to leave the old unit with them and after repair return by post to me, have done this several times over the years.
Anyway very courteous tech chap does an exchange for me new for old, lovely thinks i till he explaines that they no longer repair the old units in fact no longer make them and are running out of stock never to replace GADZOOKS says i.
Now i have been using the TM yq unit for nigh on 10 years (those of you who don't know what they are there used to be television size monitors in the motorway services showing real time delays all over the country via small arrows with average speeds noted, the yq unit was a dashboard mounted smaller version).
If there are any regular users out there you will be as horrified as i because this item has saved me days of delays over the years.
Apparently it is being superseeded by the smart nav which will pick up on delays on your selected route, trouble is the yq was brilliant at being able to instantly scan the whole country and decide before you leave which route was best.
Maybe if enough of us users contact them and ask them to reconsider it may help.

Any thoughts sorry to have gone on a bit Read more

''Hi I'm about to list a YQ Traffic 2 on ebay.''

Think its a bit late for that Jason, the signal has been turned off...unless someone is going to be the bringer of glad tidings that TM have relented, breath not held....
