My 307 has the usual PSA oil check which shows when the ignition is switched on - a row of symbols which, complete means oil level good. Got into it the other day and it showed one symbol and said oil low, Bother. Checked on dip stick - full so drove off, no leaks under the car. Booked into Pug agent for a check and now the fault has gone and the level reads correctly. Obviously I can check the oil level myself with the dipstick, as in the olden days! Is it worth chasing an intermittent , non-critical electrical fault and, if it is the sensor and/or wiring at fault what might a fix cost, please? (How long is a piece of string I guess!)

Don't bother, I'll never buy another Vauxhall again. My timing chain has just snapped on an '04 plate 2.2 direct SRi. It has 60K on the clock, I bought it from Vauxhall and has full VSH. They told me the repair bill is going to be £1500 plus. When I mentioned the fact that everyone knows the chains snap on these they didn't want to know and told me that this had been sorted, well obviously pink fluffy dicenot. After a lot of complaining to my local dealer carrying out the repair I managed to get 30% towards repairs from Vauxhall as a good will gesture from which they wouldn't budge. I can't go to anyone or prove that this is a manufacturing fault so I'm going to have to grab my ankles and take this one like a man. When it comes back from the garage it's going up for sale and I won't replace it with a poxy vauxhall that gives up after 4 years. I wish I'd never sold my 8 valve SRi Cav.
pink fluffy dice off Steve.
Thank you.
Deeply frustrating I know but you tripped the swear filter twice - not good :-(
Hi all, I've recently bought privately a 2003 Golf Tdi 150. It has only covered 48k miles but seems a bit flat in the lower rev ranges and blows a little bit of white smoke. The car was laid up for a couple of months before I bought it as the owner was away in the services and I wondered if this has anything to do with it. Someone said it was probably the air mass meter. Does anyone else have any ideas before I go out and buy a new one maybe for no reason? Thanks in advance.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune, most unlucky, though I wouldn't have thought 48k was enough to ruin a tensioner (when I had the Passat 110TDi (my ex-company car) cambelt changed at 120k, the Service manager said 'You'll need the tensioner changing as well - the leasing company refused to let us change it at 60k...').
What is the cambelt change interval on the 170 - I think for the 130 it was changed from the original 40k to 60k?
just changed the battery on remote key - 1999 focus. can someone explain the procedure for sync'ing (can't spell synchronising) the key? have tried searching the forum but couldn't find the answer although i am sure it is on here somewhere.

Hi
I've just replaced the timing belt on a 1995 Punto 55. That went OK - timing marks lined up etc, but although the engine turns over OK, it will not fire.
Any ideas, please!

Can anyone help.
The engine has cut out on my focus twice now, very intermittent, happened in July 07 and Sept.
Brief outline:
Driving along, usually on slowing, ignition light is first to come on, then followed by engine light, then all the cluster lights come on and the power steering fails. I brake, stop the car, (fortunately have not been hit on each occasion!), restart and it fires up ok and carrys on as normal. (I have not noticed the speedo dying as I'm consentrating on stopping the car so not sure if this is a speed sensor prob, as this seems to be common).
On the 2nd occasion, it restarted fine, but when traveling through town, the igintion light came on 3 seperate times, when breaking or slowing, but it went away and hasn't happened since.
First time I took it to ford for a diagnostic but nothing came up. The car idles fine, accelerates fine. The only other v small quirk is that sometimes it won't start up on first turn of the key when the engine is warm (say if I have used car and gone back to use again after 20 mins or so) - but usually starts on the 2nd attempt.
Can anyone help. It's obviously quite dangerous and I know it could be so many things, a mechanic has recommended I use shell petrol instead of Tesco and run a higher octane through the tank once in a while. PLEASE HELP! Read more
I had this problem on my 2001 1.8 zetec and it was in and out of ford 5 or 6 times but they never cured it. Strange thing was it never did it when the air con was on - not once. No flicker of ignition light or anytyhing but the technicians didn't want to know. Said it couldn't be anything to do with the air con. Ended up trading it in as it was getting so unpredictable and dangerous i didn't want the car anymore
I wonder if anyone can answer this simple question? I've just purchased a new Ka battery in preparation of the frosty mornings, went out to change it for the old 'un & stood there stumped! It's probably just me being daft but I can't see a way of removing the webbing strap that holds the old battery tight. Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks - Matt

You can do all this (maybe) or you can cut the strap!
My wife's Ibiza (100bhp PD engine) has developed an annoying habit of cutting out intermittently and then proving difficult to start.
It first happened yesterday as she slowed down to turn into the garage where our Skoda Octavia was being serviced. I was therefore handily able to get one of the mechanics out with the fault reader but none showed up. Eventually it restarted with a bit of heavy throttle action.
It's happened again a couple of times this morning, same thing - it turns over perfectly well but takes four or five goes to restart and only with some revving. Anyone got any ideas as to what it might be? If it's pertinent the car has recently undergone a change in its pattern of usage from a 9 mile / 15 minute journey to and from work to a 2 mile 15 minute journey each way. Could this have had a negative effect?
Thanks

I had a very simular fault with a 55 1.6TDI sport fiesta and that turned out to be the sensors on the noise pedle, gave them a clean and off it went! DAMB fly by wire!!!
It seems to be that cleaning contacts can solve alot of faults!!!
Has anyone had experience of this outfit. It is a large supermarket type place with cars mainly under three years old with branches across the country. Salesman claimed that the company did not actually own any of the cars displayed. My actual question is does this place haggle at all over the sticker price when there is no part exchange or finance deal involved?. Read more
Strange how no one seems to have picked up that Sytner's have agreed to buy the Car Shop. www.motortrader.com/motor-trader-news/automotive-n...7
Whether that leads to a change in business practice as regards the customer remains to be seen, but in my dealings with my Sytner Mini dealer, they've been more than fair and decent, one warranty claim amounting to a new short engine for a Cooper S. Even had sensible prices for a set of runflat Hankook tyres, fitted. By the time you've bought online, paid the local garage, it's the same give or take a fiver. ...
