Hi, i'm struggling to get my rear brakes off.
Namely the drums.
I've released the handbrake adjuster as far as it will go and have given the drums a good battering with a decent mallet to coax them off. But the shoes have produced a lip on the inside of the drums which are catching and making it difficult for the things to come off.
Any ideas? Maybe a puller or somethin similar?

I've had the rear drums on my Mk1 Focus off many times.
As mentioned above, undo the 4 bolts at the rear of the plate that the stub axle is bolted to - this will allow the drum/hub and stub axle to be removed together and doing it this way removes (a) the need for undoing the hub nut and (b) the risk of damaging the bearings.
In my case, one of the bolts is tricky to remove as it's obscured by the brake pipe. The only way I've found to get this one off is by using a 10" breaker bar with pivoted head and the correct size socket.
When it comes to putting them back on, it's obviously extremely important to put them back on at the correct torque !
The "engine management system" warning light has come on on my Skoda Fabia 16V 2002 model and the first time the garage said to me that it needed resetting and they did that.
Unfortunately 2 days later the light came back on - they looked at the car again and now are saying that the EGR valve is clogged up and needs removing and cleaning and 4 gaskets need replacing as well.
I phoned another registered Skoda garage and they said any number of things could be causing the light to come on - but if it was the EGR valve they would replace it - they would never clean it and put it back.
I have read various bits on the internet where people are saying the EGR valve is difficult to remove and clean and doesn't always work.
Any advice?

After much research on internet and having phoned garage again - they are saying that it is the pipes to the EGR valve that are clogged up and this is giving error code P401 - EGR too low.
Any more advice?
Manage to catch on TV , quite accidentally, the other night, the Watchdog programme which featured problems people had experienced with certain models of Vauxhall, including the Signum, I believe.
People were finding that their cars, when left parked, would move, despite apparently having secure the car with the handbrake.
Whilst I accept that there may well be a problem with the mechanism (and a possible explanation for this was explained in the programme) it raises the question, why don't drivers leave their cars in gear, in additon to using the handbrake.
I would NEVER leave any vehicle parked and just relying on the handbrake, especially if left on any slight incline.

Can be quite a lot a stake.
My ex. related a tale where her date took to her the local 'beauty spot' which was dark and secluded.
Passions were high and attentions were focussed on matters other than handbrake efficiency when the earth moved prematurely, matey climbed into the front and switched the lights on to find out that the car had rolled down the lane, across the verge and into a small ditch.
He had to call a mate to tow him out , ex was severely ticked as she got home after 2 and he never discovered her most intimate charms.
Made me smile.
Have bought a Toyota Avensis at auction, only one key supplied.
Cost from Toyota dealer for spare is £180+ VAT. Have looked at ebay, and it seems possible to buy a used key with transponder, fit spare blade, have key cut, and reprogramme this, all for about £25 to £35. I've no problems with the spare blade being cut, but have no idea if this reprogramming works. Have seen 2 offers on ebay for reprogramming details - £1 to £4, so not too expensive for this part, but ... Before trying it thought I'd ask if anyone has any experience of getting spare key this way, specifically reprogramming a used transponder to match an existing key.
Must be lots of people out there who would like this to work, so if I carry on will keep progress posted, unless advice is not to bother. Read more

i recently used a company called DUPLICUT who did a transponder key for a polo

When the car has been sat on the drive overnight and I come to use it in the morning I have difficulty engaging gear, forwards or reverse (the gear lever is very stiff to operate).
It only happens when the car has been stood overnight.
The gears are slick and easy to operate at all other times.
The car has only done 47k.
Any ideas on what this might be?

I'm going for my second cam belt change on the Passat TDI PD at around 105,000 miles.
Getting nervous with the interval revisions (last change at 60k). However the local VW specialist says that the water pump is external and does not require to be changed. So a 110,000 mile service plus belt change is being done for £340 all in.

The Passat 100PS PD engine came out in 2001 and is an AVB; the cam belt drives the water pump.
The steering on my 1 litre Corsa feels lighter steering to the left compared to steering to the right. The steering doesn't pull to either side when going straight and there's no uneven tyre wear. I know that this car has an electric power steering assistance, but can anyone tell me if this strange asymmetry is possible or am I imagining it? Thanks.

Yes, on an ordinary power steering set up, the column and its bulkhead mountings only experience a relatively small torque, the full steering load only being felt within the steering box or steering rack.
In these electrical systems, the full torque is borne by the steering column mountings to the bulkhead, because the assistance is provided much closer to the wheel. People much more cynical then myself might think that the structural design of the body side mountings of the electrical power steering system have not fully taken this into account.

T reg 1.1 Saxo tends to bunny hop when first turned on in the morning, soon sorts itself out after a 60mph for a few minutes. The engine sounds like a deisel and vibrates really badly - sounds really loud as well when in idle and at 40 and 70mph. Someone suggested that it might not handle the cold mornings to well but after work (8 hours in a car park) she doesn't start first time either, sometimes needs to hold the key back and give a few revs. Sometimes revs on her own when in first. Can anyone help - I would hate to get ripped off by a garage!!!!! Read more

Definitely yes. I haven't yet seen mention of any attempt to plug in a scanner and read the codes?
Your problem this morning smacks of throttle-body icing; particularly given the time of day and the likely temperature/humidity.

Booting: When I bought BB Pro. I also ordered a $10 CD they recommend/sell. I will know more when I get it but I think that enables booting.
