Hi, I am currently downgrading my car and am wondering which of the following is a better buy...
Megane 1.6 Dynamique 5dr, 06-reg, 15,000 miles, £6,600.
C4 1.6 VTR+ Coupe, 05-reg, 25,000 miles, £6,600.
Focus 1.6 Ebony 3dr, 03-reg, 33,000 miles, £5,000.
The Focus is the better driver's car, but with the lack of warranty I am a bit worried about future bills, though I am aware the Megane is possibly far worse in this respect, it'll have a warranty til Feb 09, and is the facelifted version (so perhaps they fixed some probs?). I like the look of the C4, but have no idea about reliability of the cars. They are all well equipped in different ways, the Focus with leather heated seats and screen, the C4 and Megane in safety stuff and various extra little things, see-me-home lights, cruise control, etc. I prefer the Megane's gearshift, but the Citroen's steering and pedals are better, though the Focus is better handler (though with the harshest ride).
Obviously I don't want to pay over the odds, or spend more than I have to, but which is the better car? Read more

This has started recently. I've had a go at adjusting the latch, and I've set it so the tailgate's tight as it will go, although there's very little adjustment available.
It's most noticeable on slightly rough roads.
With the tailgate shut, I can apply pressure to the bottom of the tailgate and get the same metallic noise, so I assume it's the tailgate where it closes on the latch itself - all bolts are tight.
The rubber bead looks fine and intact.
I've had the car for a couple of years, and there's no evidence of any rear end damage repair.
I can't detect any movement at the hinges or gas strut joints.
I can't make the tailgate rattle by giving it a good shaking when it's open, so I'm pretty sure there's nothing loose inside it.
Any ideas? Read more

Check to see when the brake lights function, or watch the status of the pedal position sensor change in live-data.
went to the petrol station yesterday , as I am turning in,white transit van reverses in to me. ive stopped and hooted, but its to late , loud bang, then he drives forward and round to another pump, pretending not to know. call him over, ive written his number done on a note pad, his young boy snatches it from me, his mother saying oh theirs no damage, ive not looked yet, tell them this is all being filmed witch calms them down, the woman wants to give me a LUCKY CHARM in compensation. As it happens their didn't appear to be much damage. what i want to know has anybody ever had an accident with a gypsy and they've had a happy conclusion

That's nothing.
I bought a car from one once.
Oddly enough I quite liked the car (which modesty or shame or something prevents me from naming) despite its long-past-breaker's yard condition (indeed perhaps it had fallen off the back of a breaker's yard) but I certainly paid far too much for it, mesmerised by his promise to put £20 in my hand when I bought it.
Surprisingly, he didn't do that, and I was as he correctly calculated too - I don't know quite what the word is, it might be censored if I did - to ask for it.
Lucky fourleaf clover? You got off lightly my friend. But you look like a fillum star so you do.

hi hope someone can help, my 1999 ford courier van with 1.8 Endura engine is an absolute pig to start in the morning, had new glow plugs...be it cheaper ones, but to no avail!!! to start i have to turn ignition, wait for light to go out then repeat 3 times to get started. if i try 1st turn it turns over for probly 20secs before firing up with a puff of white smoke!!!!
i have noticed though that after the glow plug light goes out, around 6 secs for the relay to click...this doesnt sound long enough?
thanx in advance

just borrowed a test lamp and it connected to plugs and to ground, turn ignition....no light on test lamp
15 secs of cranking later engine fires up....test lamp comes on. stays on for around a minute then goes out, this bit sounds about right.....but why are they not coming straight on? if there turning off after a minute of engine running does that mean relay is ok? is it the same relay that turns them on?
help would be very helpfull
p.s my battery drains if left for 2 days, connected maybe?

I recently had the car serviced which included changing the front pads and discs. Since then, I have been experiencing brake judder when coming to a slow halt (in queues/junctions etc) but not at any other times. The garage replaced the discs and pads for a second time but the problem persists. Anyone got any ideas what is causing this and how to sort it? Read more
Thanks, will get them checked out
Oh dear what a shame
Britain's most senior traffic policeman is to be prosecuted for speeding, his force said on Tuesday.
Meredydd Hughes, head of roads policing for the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO), was allegedly caught driving at 90mph in a 60mph zone in North Wales while on holiday last May.
A spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Police said: "Chief Constable Meredydd Hughes has received a notice of prosecution in respect of an alleged driving offence in North Wales in the early morning of a bank holiday Monday in May while on holiday.
"No summons has yet been received."
The force has not given any indication whether Mr Hughes intends to fight the prosecution.
North Wales Police said it would not confirm any details on a case before it went to court.
My bet is he will come up with an excuse and get off.

I'm seem to have developed a sudden habit of repeating the same phrase once to often in that last post. Perhaps I should wait till my hangover has passed in the future. :)

Hello,
I'm really struggling to pin-point a niggling start issue with my car.
When I turn the ignition there is a mechanical sound that I can only describe as a "strain" - this occurs at a cold start, warm start and during any kind of weather condition. The battery is ok, the spark plugs have been changed and I can't think of anything else it could be.
It will start after 3 or 4 attempts (it's never failed to start). Read more
So if I potter into kwik fit or somewhere of that type they can check it for me? Not sure I understand as the car does start and battery seems fine, but will get it checked and send you an e-pint if it works :)

Hi,
My wife has just bought a used car. We had a few weeks ago put her private plate on retention so we could sell her old car. Having never done it before how do we go about putting the plate on the new car? Do we have to wait until we get the logbook back from DVLA before we can asign the plate to the car.
Thanks,
Pete. Read more
pompous comment
I read rtj70's post as a tongue-in-cheek comment denigrating the new regulations about number plates, rather than a "pompous comment" (cf.).

I was 18 when I first had one. Could easily see past them. I really do miss it, and as said earlier may swing it for the Focus. Ideally I'd have a late-plate Focus I Edge, but unfortunately they did not come with the heated front screen, and in a Focus, I really feel this is a strong selling point.
