Had an accident with a Gypsy - slowdown avenue
went to the petrol station yesterday , as I am turning in,white transit van reverses in to me. ive stopped and hooted, but its to late , loud bang, then he drives forward and round to another pump, pretending not to know. call him over, ive written his number done on a note pad, his young boy snatches it from me, his mother saying oh theirs no damage, ive not looked yet, tell them this is all being filmed witch calms them down, the woman wants to give me a LUCKY CHARM in compensation. As it happens their didn't appear to be much damage. what i want to know has anybody ever had an accident with a gypsy and they've had a happy conclusion

Had an accident with a Gypsy - Waino
Some years ago, a friend was hit from behind by 3 itinerant tarmac layers whose brakes had failed. One of the ITLs jumped out of the lorry and offered £200 cash - which my mate refused, and he said that he 'wanted things done properly'.

The police arrived - found that the lorry was unsafe - and it was towed to the compound. The ITLs were due to appear in court the next day. They, of course, didn't show up and the lorry turned out to 'belong' to someone on a site 80 miles away who said it had been stolen. My mate then had to choose between paying for the damage himself, which was about £200 - or losing his ncb - which would also have cost him about £200.

The moral of this story is that you should have accepted the lucky charm!

My late mother was involved in a collision that damager her car, but only on the side.

The other driver asked how much was it going to cost to fix. The first figure that entered her head was £1000 so she said that.

It was only panel damage on one rear door on a car that was barely worth more than the £1k. The chap said. OK, here's £300 I'll get the other £700 to you tomorrow, and he did.

She never got the damage fixed and she was actually better off. She sold the car a couple of years later for around £250 IIRC.

In my experience you would get absolutely no joy dealing with a gipsy. Neither would you get any joy with the police resolving a dispute with one either.
I live near deleted. There are sites that they have bought legitimately for £500K and £700K cash. They have been bought so that they can vacate another a few miles away at deleted.
I have heard two stories about deleted. One concerns a guy who had a 4X4 stolen and traced it himself to the gipsy site. The police refused to enter the site and offered the excuse that it cannot be constituted as stolen when he knew where it was.
I other I found amusing. The fire service were called to the same site when a caravan was on fire. When they got there they found that the hydrant had been concreted over (as you know they lay the bases hastily at night before the council arrives) the caravan burned to a cinder.
Where the 4X4 story ended I don't know. If you have any problems with them I'm afraid you're on your own.
As for the guy who was offered £200 - I would have took it.

If that quote had constituted a genuine police reply offered to me, as opposed to a "hearsay" story, then im afraid i would be kicking "blue backside" over hot coals!!, the fact he knew where it was doesn't in my mind mean it's not stolen! and as such the Police should have a duty to act, or am i expecting too much?

Round here we had a farmer who had a number of dogs stolen-he went to the local traveller site with a can of petrol and a box of matches-in fifteen minutes, all his dogs had been found-"must have strayed off his farm".

That's nothing.

I bought a car from one once.

Oddly enough I quite liked the car (which modesty or shame or something prevents me from naming) despite its long-past-breaker's yard condition (indeed perhaps it had fallen off the back of a breaker's yard) but I certainly paid far too much for it, mesmerised by his promise to put £20 in my hand when I bought it.

Surprisingly, he didn't do that, and I was as he correctly calculated too - I don't know quite what the word is, it might be censored if I did - to ask for it.

Lucky fourleaf clover? You got off lightly my friend. But you look like a fillum star so you do.
