Have bought a Toyota Avensis at auction, only one key supplied.
Cost from Toyota dealer for spare is £180+ VAT. Have looked at ebay, and it seems possible to buy a used key with transponder, fit spare blade, have key cut, and reprogramme this, all for about £25 to £35. I've no problems with the spare blade being cut, but have no idea if this reprogramming works. Have seen 2 offers on ebay for reprogramming details - £1 to £4, so not too expensive for this part, but ... Before trying it thought I'd ask if anyone has any experience of getting spare key this way, specifically reprogramming a used transponder to match an existing key.
Must be lots of people out there who would like this to work, so if I carry on will keep progress posted, unless advice is not to bother.

theres never a shortcut with keys wiliejohn, this is your first post in cyber space so you may never read my ramblings but its worked for me in the past sometimes, other times i get abuse but here goes-----------
get in touch with previous keeper in log book and ask them to look in second drawer on right for the spare key

"look in second drawer on right for the spare key"
Or first on left. Bell Boy is no doubt spot on and previous keeper has the key. Even if you offer a tenner to look you're better off than the alternative.

Hi WillieJohn,
Did you ever resolve the issue with only having one key for your Avensis as I'm in the same boat with just 1 key?
Thanks>>

Good link, thanks. Toyota wanted silly money, so eighteen months after your post, I was very pleased to read it!
