I'm thinking of buying an Almera Tino 1.8 Petrol - probably circa 2004.
I've always driven manuals, mainly because they're cheaper to buy, better mpg, more reliable etc. But I'm wondering if I should consider auto in this case. Is the Tino auto a good one? What about mpg? The official mpg is only slightly worse than the manual - but what about in the real world?
Any insight appreciated, along with any comments in general about the Tino, particularly the 1.8 petrol engine.

Hi,
Surprise, surprise, my head gasket has blown on my MGF. Only thing is i've only had it for a month!
Now because it's the VVCi anyone who will touch it is quoting me around £950.
Surely there must be someone out there who can help me out at a reasonable price.
I'm located up in Stirling, but will def travel if anyone knows of somewhere i could take it.
Any ideas folks?
Please help.

Does anyone know where you can buy Elf oil apart from at Renault dealers? Specifically the Evolution SXR 5W-40 fully synthetic stuff.
The Scenic is almost half way through its ludicrous 18k service interval, and I'm going to change the oil and filter myself. For peace of mind, I want to use the exact recommended brew. I will also fit a genuine Renault filter at the same time.
I'm not averse to buying the oil from the dealer when I buy the filter, but would be nice to be able to compare prices at a few outlets. I have never seen Elf oil for sale anywhere though, and the Elf website doesn't help.
Cheers

About 15 years ago I used to buy cheap Elf mineral oil from an Elf petrol station.
As has been suggested try a Total petrol station. Elf are part of TFE (Total Fina Elf)

Screwloose can obviously type faster than me ;o)
Does anyone have any experience with this? I have a small hole (7-8 mm) in my MX 5 canvas roof. I've seen a professional car upholsterer who showed me a very nice result (which he described as '80% invisible') on an MGF he'd done, but he needs the car for half a day and he isn't exactly local to me, so i'm wondering if this Halford kit would give a similar result. I should add that i'm a bit kack handed; it'll have to be easy to use!
Help and advice much appreciated. Read more

I am checking up what people actually think about these two cars. I am mainly interested in the smaller engine versions. I know Mercedes are supposed to have got their act together and ripted out bad electrics. ( I know that has been done). I also heard that BMW have fixed up their electrical problems with the 5- series. I have heard the I-Drive is now a lot better with it's 8 added buttons.
I really like the look of the most recent versions of both these two cars. Mercedes has the quieter design where as the BMW 5 series is still a very modern design.
I would be genuinely interested about what people with experience think? Read more
They're completely different cars.
If you can afford £100,000 for a BMW i8, you can probably afford to keep your E-class for every day and reserve the i8 for 'best'.

"What are you so uptight about?"
Nothing but this site is often against so many things and censor's itself and us. So I thought I would point out we were discussing how to obtain copies of potentially illegal material. Same method as for legal. Therefore HJ might not like us discussing how to obtain illegal media files.
We cannot name and shame but can tell each other how to obtain illegal media. The two are not compatible.
Personally I have no problem with this YouTube stuff but I do not believe this was the forum to share this info - it's out there anyway. But for this site to hide behind the "Google will check all YouTube files" is obviously naive.

Hello all...Hope someone can help. My wife's just bought a 2001 Focus Ghia Auto Saloon..lovely car with really low mileage, years MOT and runs perfect. Only problem we've discovered driving it home is that the indicator stalk wont self cancel as the wheel is returned...it has to be switched off by hand. I know its only relatively minor but its very annoying....just wondered if anyone knew if this was a common problem, and can it be easily fixed....is it just the stalk that needs to be replaced or has the steering wheel got to be removed. Got a years warranty with the car, but it was quite a drive away, so just wondering if there is a quick fix before driving back to the place we got it. Thanks in advance for any help....Regards, Graeme. Read more
...... its
very annoying ....
I find that few indicator stalks cancel consistently. I just stick my finger out and cancel it manually as the steering wheel approaches the straight ahead position ~ that's on the few occasions when I indicate anyway! It's only annoying if you make up your mind it's annoying.
I had a call last night, they got my details from the Ford database, I think on the basis of having full service history, offered me AA Mechanical Breakdown Insurance 3 Star cover for under £20 / month for my five year old 120k mile Mondeo.
Looking at the website the cover seems pretty comprehensive, a turbocharger is only covered via an additional premium though it indicates that the fuel system would be covered which, as we know, can be an fairly expensive repair on a TDCi.
However the website says:
"This Insurance offers 'Parts and Labour' cover for specifically listed Components under the following categories. This is a summary of the cover offered. Specific Components are detailed in the Insurance document."
I am guessing that potentially costly items such as ABS pumps, injection pumps etc will not be amongst the *specifically listed Components*.
Any thoughts?

Similar problem.
Trying to put a claim through for a failed seal in the gear box and they'll only cover half the job! No reputable garage will just replace the seal, but that's all they will cover.
They insist it will return the car in a better condition than it was before - well, duh, your reparing a fault!
What is the point of not even covering the minimum job that can be done?...
Lori, it has clearly really shaken you up, and I am sure you have the full sympathy of all here. Not nice at all, and I hope your insurance have covered it promptly.
I think the point made was that there is no *general* problem with Nissan cars and spontaneous combustion - you were unlucky enough to get a dud.
You have my sympathy - I am the owner of the worlds only unreliable Honda - off the road for 8 weeks in the 2.5 years I have owned it from new. Very annoying from my point of view, but it certainly doesn't change the fact that Honda is generally an exceptionally reliable brand. Likewise with Nissan.
