I have replaced the ageing cassette player (clarion pu9971a) in my peugeot 106 with a cd player (clarion pu2294a) from a 306. Everything works ok except for one thing. When you turn the ignition off and turn it back on again the player has lost all the memory and you have to input the code again. I have checked the power to the iso connector and all is fine. Any help on resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Hello All,
I currently own a MK5 VW Golf TDi 3Door. Been transporting my mountain bike around in the boot but it's too fiddly. I want a more ideal solution.
Considered a towbar based rack (i have no towbar yet) but fittment of a towbar to this car is so complicated.
Roofbars impact fuel economy and could possibly risk scratching my paintwork.
Which leaves a cycle rack.....
Comments appreciated. Read more
If you're still are looking at rear-racks then I've always found the ones made by Saris are good, they can be seen at www.saris.com, the Bones (3 or 2 bike) is recommended.
They can be bought at many of the online cycling shops, wiggle.co.uk have them at the moment for £89 in a variety of colours, and several positive reviews by the cycling mags.
Have read several good reviews of the latest BMW118d and for the first time I am considering a One series to replace my C-Max at the end of the year. I know interior space isn't great (I travel mostly alone) and styling is awkward but has anyone got this car? What is the real life experience of this car by owners? Can I expect 50 mpg? Thanks Read more
85MPH is the killer of economy. I did state that I travel at the legal limit.
I currently have a 2007 S-Max 1.8 diesel. It's done 22k in 7 months and over that period it has averaged 43.7MPG. That's an overall avarage over all 22k miles and in a car considerably bigger than a Focus.
Please note I also work these fuel consumptions out manually rather than use the fuel computer lies (it regualrly claims 55 - 60MPG out of a tank in the S-Max!!!)
I think you'd be surprised how much fuel you would save travelling at 70MPH rather than 85MPG. I think you'd be even more surprised at how little longer your journey will take as well.
Good luck and have fun.
Drivers wrongly using spaces designated for the disabled and for mother and toddler in some Asda car parks will get a £50 fine. Fair 'nuff?

Nowheels, my reply was based on your post referring to supermarkets spending money on the car park, not losing profits. I understand they may lose customers at busy times but quite a few of the mothers & toddlers and disabled categories don't work and could do their shopping during the week whilst the able bodied employed do theirs at the weekend, so peak times could be avoided. The busiest supermarket round here is ASDA and I think people go there because it's the cheapest by far for your everyday items, so I don't think they would go elsewhere, even if it was busy, I think they would go at a different time (it's open 24hrs, except Sunday night).
A bit off topic but, why does everybody shop at the weekends, is it a religious thing ? ;-)

The heater on my wife's punto is not working. It is a Y reg 1.2l model with about 42,000 miles on the clock. The car has just been serviced and has had the oil sump replaced (both 2 weeks ago). Not sure when the heater stopped working but the fan only blows cold air regardless of the temperature setting. Additionally when the fan has been on for a while the engine temperature warning light comes on. The water level in the reservoir was quite low when I checked it this evening. Coulsue be related?d the water level and heater is
Clearly it needs a vist to the garage but could the heater problems be related to the recent work? Is there simple fix I could do myself? Read more
sounds like they drained and refilled the water system? anti freeze ?
did they?
and did they bleed it properly if they did?
im only summising
no other reason really unless you have a problem with the engine or cooling system
not happy that the light comes on so get it checked soonest before the head gasket goes
somebody will be on and blame aliens in a minute but to be honest they dont like fiats so its cool, apart from your car anyway, oops sorry,no pun-to intended
Bought a C4 Grand Picasso earlier in the year with EGS (Electronic Gearbox System). Does anyone have any experience of this gearbox? I don't know whether it's unique to the C4 range or other Citroens too. It is the only negative point in an otherwise very good car. Read more
GT, I would get the dealer to check throttle/clutch settings. I've got a C4 coupe with this box and have had no problems at all - and 90% of my driving is in town. Yes, the clutch only takes up as you give it a bit of revs, but it should all be very progressive. I regularly parallel park on sloping roads, with no trouble at all.
A mate just mentioned his Clio 1.2 16v is going for its first MOT this week AND first service! He's had it from new 32k miles ago and it's never been to a garage. The closest it's got to maintenance was him topping up the oil about 6 months ago, the first and only time he's checked it. Don't know whether to be impressed or horrified. Read more
Oldest son bought 1997 peugeot 106 1.1 petrol with 20k miles in 2002.
He then did 12k miles with no servcie (every 6k miles schedule).
Now gets a service from me every 6-8k miles. using Comma semi synthetic/Fram filters(
No cambelt change, no TLC, but new pads/disks driveshafts/exhaust.
Now done 100k miles . Burns no oil . No work done on engine .
Drives as new. 45mpg
A tribute to modern engineering..
I would say with modern oils it will take 40k miles to ruin an engine if using semisynthetics. Normal mineral oil around 20-30k miles.
But short journeys are of course far more wearing.

I have a Corolla Verso, 2002 1.8 petrol. It has a rattle when pulling away on full lock. Its worse on right lock, but also present on left lock. It sounds to me like a drive shaft joint, but my local garage has looked at it and cannot detect any play in the joints. They suggest I "live with it", which I have now been doing for over a year (10,000 miles).
Has anybody else experienced this? Is there anything else the noise could be? Any sugestions? If it is a drive shaft how can I tell which one it is? I don't want to replace both, at estimate £300 each, unless I have to.

I can't sell it like this, and am not prepared to pay to fix it, so I am running it into the ground.
What are these for ?
I've seen about 3 on the South Circular (A205) near Catford in London Borough of Lewisham (The world capital of speed humps).
They appear to be temporary arrangement of a very small camera on top of a 5m plus high thin steel / aluminium post fixed by straps to a lamp-post. At the base is a metal box well padlocked and chained to the foot of aformentioned lamp-post. The cameras face along the road presumably to observe traffic.
There is a yellow plastic tape on the poles saying "Surveying".
Surveying precisely what please ? Read more
Gmac - just so. Detect the problem but don't do anything - fixing it would cost money and not make it.
...been a bad time recently with cars. the wife's Grandis was in for some insurance body work as well as some warranty work and one bit of non-warranty work - replacing a rear lamp unit.
The insurance work seems to have taken as long as they said, but when I pick it up there are scratches and chips over the new rear bumper, so I'll have to flog all the way in again to have it sorted.
The warranty work has now eventually been completed, after pointing out the problems about 4 months ago!!!
But what has got me incensed is the replacement lamp unit. I thought that my other car was expensive but I sort of took it as part of ownership of a BMW. However owning a Grandis makes BMW look cheap!!!!! Now my wife organised this and when i got the bill I asked her how much she had been verbally quoted and she said £1-200. But buy, a piece of plastic that needs to be replaced by Mitsubishi cost me £265 VAT and £42.50 VAT labout making a GRAND TOTAL of £361.32
How can they really justify charging so much for a small piece of plastic? Coupled with the fact that one is supposed to service the car every 9000 miles at a cost of £380 (except for the 54k service which is £740), I told the service guy how I hated owning this car and that I wished that the wife had wanted to buy an S-Max. I told him that all prices were hard to except and that Mitsubishi has lost my custom for good (except where I need to get this car serviced). As and when the wife wants to sell the car I will do so like a shot. Normally I tell her to keep as long as possible, so that I can save my pennies, but not this time.
Why do car manufacturers charge so much? Are they trying to keep their customers? Well it's sad but I am never ever going to buy another Mitsubishi. Read more
and that was with 10% trade discount on it.
they give me a miserable 7%,no wonder i always think long and hard before i buy a undi, mind saying that i only get 10% at ford
got a flyer of eurocar parts ,discs and pads for a mk 4 fiesta solid discs,£14.99 + vat all in delivered
im thinking of opening a shop at crazy prices like these
hello mate you probably already know by now but i had the same problem as you and read through this article i bought my car with the stereo already in but was having the same issue just swapped the yellow and the red wires over and problem solved so even if no wireing is needed just bear in mind the next time that you may still need to swap some wires over. so glad these articles exist makes life so much easier. cheers :)
