Having found an online code supplier I need to remove the Ford 7000 radio from my 1997 Mondeo. I thought this would be so easy!
I made the u shaped removal tools that have worked on every other radio I have ever tried but this one wont budge. I have removed the cassette tape storage thing under the radio but it's still refusing to move.
I've tried wiggling the removal prongs and easing them inwards and outwards but no joy.
Any ideas chaps?

purchased a 04 reg IS200 for 10k from a Lexus dealer 2 weeks ago. Despite being assured it was full Lexus service history on the day of collection no service history was forthcoming.
After a great deal of perseverance and several weeks was presented with a 'sham' of a service book that had been filled in 20 minutes earlier....and they wouldn't even admit to it being a duplicate despite the Lexus 2007 stamp on the 2004 service slot!!
The computer records of this vehicle showed...
First service 1500 miles late at 11,500 miles
2nd Service (full) : never occurred
3rd Service : errr 32500 miles lol (2500 late)
4th service (full): 45,000 miles....5 k too late
In my opinion, a pre-owned Lexus approved history is NOT a full service history..it would appear that they can get away with approving it if there are missing services by doing one service before you buy...

Im currently negotiating a replacement vehicle that has a proper service history..although tempted to tell them to shove it altogether
{subject header and a few words altered / removed as could be considered libellous - DD}

re "2500 late" i would say this is no big deal, its easy to happen if you need to make a few trips of 200/300 miles unexpectedly at the same time as dealers dont have any slots for a few weeks
however missing service alltogether is a much bigger deal, i want to know the oil has been changed
Hi
I have borrowed the mother in laws corsa as i have broke my cinqucento, and now it will not go into revese or 5th gear.
I hoped that it was just because it was hot, as i drove it more in a day than it usually does in a month.
When i tried it this morning after sitting all night it still would not, it is as if the shifter no longer goes across far enough for reverse or 5th.
I hope it is something simple, as i dont want two repair bills
hopefull you can help. Read more
Sounds like something gone wrong with the gear linkage, which apparently is not unusual with Corsas'. Have a look at the linkage (both ends) while someone works the lever, and see if there's lost movement somewhere.
Cany anyone recommend a re-gassing service in the Manchester area at a reasonable cost please?
Thanks. Read more
I have used Polar Air Conditioning in Prestwich, North Manchester
They are also mobile throughout the North West.
Possibly not the cheapest but really good service and the re-gas was guaranteed for a year.
Good for me as I needed a new condensor 2 weeks after initial gas and heater/drier 9 months later.
I should add that it was 3 years ago that I last used them but still see the vans from time to time.
If Ian is still the manager, then definately recommended.
Coming to the end of my tether with a 99V Passat 110 TDi that has, in the past 15 months, cost me neary £1,800 in repairs and servicing. It still looks lovely (I polish it every time I wash it), it still averages just under 49mpg, it's still a great family hack, it's only done 62,000.
But an average of nearly £120 a month on repairs and servicing tells its own story about the difference between a car that looks high quality and a car that is high quality - I've had two rear door latch failures, a failed air mass sensor, new front brakes, new front suspension arm, and numerous untraceable rattles. And a new cambelt. What next?
It's got to go. But what do I replace it with? I need something that matches its carrying capacity, economy, comfort. I've thought about a C-Max, a Mondeo estate, even a Picasso.
I reckon I might get £2.5k part ex for the Passat and can stump up another £6k or so.
Suggestions and advice (esp from HJ himself if he has a mo) would be welcome.

">it's covering around 7-8,000 a year <"
!!!! I recommend a V6 Mondeo. Or even a classic.
According to police authorities, a major overhaul is necessary to improve current number plate procedures and practices to improve security, reduce cloning, etc.
After all, a clumsy thief would take fully 30 seconds to unscrew the average set of plates from a UK car.
Car dealers are generally able to produce their own as required and I wouldn't suggest any malpractice here, but it could be a potentially weak area.
In France if I understand correctly they are physically riveted to the car body, not just held on by two piddly self tapping screws as in the UK.
Are we behind the game compared with other countries, or compared with what we should be doing?

Randomly, it might seem....
Has anyone else out there found modern (post approx 2000) cars to be vastly inferior to mid nineties cars to drive? Modern cars seem incapable of soaking up bumps competently and have fiddly rides that I find highly uncomfortable. I'm on my fifth car now since selling my 96 Astra 2 years ago and at my wits end trying to find something that has the feel I want. I've had 2 vectra's (the first one was so bad, I thought there was something wrong with it, hence the 2nd Vectra - which was even worse), a new shape Mondeo, a Volvo S40 and a BMW 3 series compact.
In my opinion, all of these have been dreadful to drive compared to the cars I used to drive in the 90's, and maybe even the 80's. Can anyone recommend a medium size car that has a supple suspension and a civilised, smooth drive? Preferably not French, and pref not a Ford or Vauxhall and 3k - 4k to spend. I was thinking maybe a Seat Leon. HELP! Read more
I actually did around 1,000 miles in that hired C 200 CDI Mercedes, so I got to know it rather well.I really enjoyed driving it in all conditions. I am actually interested in buying the new shape one when it appears.
I just wondered if anyone has come across a mini cooler that can be plugged into a cigarette lighter?
I wondered if theres anything that could hold an ice pack or something to cool the air in the car on long journeys as i dont have aircon?
just a thought Read more
A tip.
If you have to post a long URL use TINYUrl so you don't screw up
the web page...:-)
Simple to install and use (copy and paste the TINYUrl into your posting).
Or use the one in the sticky message at the top of the page.

car takes a while to get up to normal temp and stays there whilst the car is being driven. However when at a standstill or in traffic the temp shoots straight up. When the car gets going again the temp drops back down to normal. Checked the fan and its its workingwhen at standstill.
any ideas? Read more
Actually my mum did have an astra that shes just sold. The temperature on that would shoot up then the fan would cut in and bring it back down all the time. Apparently its how they were made or something....

There is a knack to it.
Push the prongs in until you feel resistance. Then gently push it in another 5mm or so. squeeze both tools outwards (away from each other),wiggle the unit gently and pull it out.
There is nothing else to remove to get these radios out, so it's just a question of perseverance I'm afraid.
Good luck
Cheers
