Hi All,
I'm just wondering whether to buy a used Ford Mondeo now, or wait for the new model to come out later this month? My thinking is that when the new model comes on the market, fleets and private owners will trade in for the new model, which has had god reviews and therefore pushing the used prices down.
Does anyone think this effect will happen, and if it does will the price drop be enough to put off buying for a month or so?

What was the problem with the TDCi? I'm idly considering an early Mondeo (new shape, about 2001-ish) as you seem to be able to get a surprising amount of car for the money, but I hadn't got around to looking at the variants yet.
My daughter has just bought a house in an area which is mainly occupied by older (as in their 70?s+) people and she?s noticed that every morning they get their cars out of their garages and park them in the road. Then in the evening they put them away again, without the car ever having been anywhere.
Other people don?t come and park in the road or anything like that, so she is baffled by their behaviour.
Thinking about it, I remember my Grandad always did this.
I can think of all sorts of reasons why they might do this, but does anybody have a definitive answer?

I agree with Pugugly, the retired man needs to spend at least an hour in the garage sharpening chisels, mending things and looking for things he's lost.
Oil is leaking out of my engine; leaving it overnight leaves a pool 3 to 6 inches across on the floor, and I can't work out where its coming from. The car's worth less than a mechanic's fees and I only need it to last 5 or 6 more months before I scrap it or (if I can) sell it.
Its a 1996 Corsa 1.4 8v (Hi-Torq), engine code is X14SZ. 150k miles. {Added to subject header so as to catch the eye of possible Vauxhall experts - DD}
Its definitely not the oil filter or the oil draining plug. I initially thought it was the "seam" that runs around the bottom of the sump, as this is very wet. There is not much wetness above this line however. I was informed by a mechanic friend (who lives too far away to look at it) that it is probably coming from above this seam, and pooling above it before running down and dripping off. He suggested I check the oil pressure warning light switch, but I can't work out where this is and the pic in the Haynes manual is no help whatsoever.
Does anyone know where this switch is, and are there any other common places for it to leak from?

Would suggest a quick clean then lay under and watch for the oil! 1st guess is switch located near pump or oil pump gasket ( quite common!)

It should be doable by loading it into the Maps Folder on the hard disc via your USB connector.
Air conditioning in cars.
How come air conditioning is often so troublesome in cars?
Contrasted that is, with the household fridge which seems so similar.
we have two fridges past down from owner to owner with the house and are running fine at 25 yrs old, running 24/7.
Build quality or design? is there an argument, that air conditioning in cars is often not fit for purpose, due to the basic principle having proved so robust, but the actual application in a car often so fragile and troublesome?
As an aside,
I can remember as a lad in the 1960`s a big cold room being set up and an ancient compressor unit being brought in. Its memorable because I remember the engineer instructing us all to run if it ever leaked because it used something similar to first world war mustard gas.
He had all the doors and windows open and was notably nervous in filling the system up.
I was amused to call back 20 years later and it was still running.
So the principle and application is really reliable, but what happened with cars?

It's cheaper.
In their infinite wisdom, Renaults only have one service port, and it's a high pressure side fitting on the low pressure side of the system. These fittings are standard world wide, but the french decide decide to swap them around.
Fiats also use an a/c low side fitting on the fuel rail. More than a few recovery machines have been ruined recovering petrol.

Still answerphone, no reply to e-mails.
Has anyone manged to contact them.
If they are this hard to get hold of, what would happen if you had a problem after purchase?

Audi A6 1998 4B2 1.8T Steering Fluid. I recently purchased this car Full Audi SH and known car to me 42K miles I was just doing a fluid check and noticed the steering fluid was yellowy not green as expected The header clearly states G002 000 which I have a genuine Audi VAG can off of it's green. Any Ideas, it does not smell burnt or anything but it ain't green. Regards Peter Read more
Thanks Aprilia. My Golf manaul state 1.53 ltrs but when I refilled the empty rack and all the hoses it only took a litre. I off to collect 3 litres. I am goint the force all the fluid out with dried compressed air then purge with 002 until it is clean coming out after lock to lcok steering when re-connect the system and run her for a while. I just hope the AFT has not attacted the seals. Regards Peter

this website has been setup by an Oxfordshire Fireman who lost his son in a terrible car accident in 2004.
His son was wearing his seatbelt incorrectly, and since then the gentleman has done everything he can getting the message across to people about the importance of wearing a safety belt.
He is now going one step further - and started a cycle ride from Lands End to John O'groats on 1st June and will finish 18th June.
He is trying to raise £20,000 for the Fire Services National Benevolent Fund. So far hes raised £7000.
It would be FANTASTIC if we could all give him our support! whether its cash (even just £1 each would go a long way) or just a word of encouragement on his website.

(Pre-Renault) Nissans are cheap cars, especially the larger ones on the used market. This means that people neglect maintenance then don't complain when their engine somehow manages to plough on regardless.
I don't buy this argument -- I've known enough bad Fiats to realise that they aren't all bought by numpties!
Next door neighbour's Punto 2 was the only really reliable one I've come across, treated like it's made of solid gold, really nice little black number.
Unfortunately, at 6 years old and 65,000 miles it bit its owner squarely on the bottom. Complete ECU failure followed by HG failure within a further 1500 miles. The gearbox was starting to refuse reverse gear as well. Total cost for repairs £1700. Was traded in.
That was the one standout Punto I knew, and it ended up letting the side down as well. How sad.
