Audi A6 1998 4B2 1.8T Steering Fluid. I recently purchased this car Full Audi SH and known car to me 42K miles I was just doing a fluid check and noticed the steering fluid was yellowy not green as expected The header clearly states G002 000 which I have a genuine Audi VAG can off of it's green. Any Ideas, it does not smell burnt or anything but it ain't green. Regards Peter

Would it do any harm to change it to something of a known spec ?

The car has always been serviced by Audi in Cardiff. The header tank states G 002 000 and so does my Audi Manual on CD for that year and model and for years and models either side. I use 002 000 in my Golf but I have not noticed it discolour to a light yellow brown. Regards Peter

I must say I have only seen this come in a green colour. The MB stuff is a light yellow, but that is a different spec (more like a Type A hydaulic fluid). Might be an idea to go back to the dealer on this one - you really don't want to put the wrong stuff in there!

You're right, the Audi stuff should be green, I have a can which I got from Eurocarparts to top up my old A4's PS.

I spoke with the Audi dmain dealer that serviced this car and he went through into the workshops to ask what fluid they use. Much to my horror he got 3 different answers, AFT red, 002 green and I don't know. My fluid in the car that did have the fluid topped up at the main dealers is, as I said slight yellow light brown. I suspect they used AFT red and red and green gives rise to the yellowish light brown colour. I intend, as a result of this to flush it all out and refill with G002 000 green. However I can not fing how much the system holds as I will need at least twice the system capacity. Any ideas ?? Regards Peter

Having replaces racks in the past I can tell you for sure that Audi A4 and A6 both hold just short of a litre of fluid in total.
Good to hear that the dealers know what they are doing and that for £100+ per hour you are getting 'factory trained expert technicians' LOL! I would have thought the cap would have given them a clue!

Thanks Aprilia. My Golf manaul state 1.53 ltrs but when I refilled the empty rack and all the hoses it only took a litre. I off to collect 3 litres. I am goint the force all the fluid out with dried compressed air then purge with 002 until it is clean coming out after lock to lcok steering when re-connect the system and run her for a while. I just hope the AFT has not attacted the seals. Regards Peter
