Can anyone advise at all how to take these apart further than the velcro and zip fittings that hold the washable cover on. Our daughter was sick all over hers today and it went way down beyone the cover and we can not access to clean properly. The manual for the car has nothing in it to help. We ideally want to get the harness straps off totally to wash and then be able to clean in the area of the foam that we can see down there somewhere!
Many thanks. Read more
Hello could someone please tell me if the Lexus LS 430 is chain cam and also if the Lexus GS300 is chain cam. Is thier much differnce between a 3.0 and 4.3 engine in terms of mpg?
Thanks Read more
Thanks, the lexus dealer service guy in the UAE has sadi that they are belt and not chain. hmmm
Please note that in the UAE the 3.0 engine is rated at 228 bhp and does not have direct injection. It is a sllight different version to that offered in Europe.
Both Citroen and Ford (that I know of) are offering Diesel engines with "Overboost". Any views on their effect on the reliability/durability of the engines ? Read more
If it's anything like the overboost function fitted to the Porsche 911 Turbo then it
only activates at full throttle increasing the boost from the turbo for around 10 seconds
increasing the torque.
Yes, same idea. Its by no means new. Older turbo experts will remember a version of it when it was called 'boost spiking'.
My daughter has a Mazda 2 .When she tried to start it today it showed a warning light which the handbook says needs to be reset by the workshop and represents a key fault. The car did not turn over. Is there anyway around this re coding..Could it be that the battery is going flat and did not keep the coding memory?
Thanks

Just purchased a Jan 2005 54 plate Getz 1.3 GSi for the wife. I've been doing a bit of browsing on the net and there's lots of talk of three years free servicing. The car is ex Hyundai fleet, so would this car have been eligible for the free servicing package. I pick it up next friday when I'll ask the dealer, but forewarned is forearmed as they sya. Read more
I think that it is a special offer on new Hyundais only from 1 April to June.
Last month the offer was get a higher spec model for the price of a more basic one.
Which SWMBO did. And rather nice as well.

I wasna fu but just had plenty.
Had my first major fault in my C-Max today, and was wondering if anyone's encountered anything like it before.
I'd stopped to visit a cash machine, got back in the car, spotted a bus approaching that was waiting to get past, so I decided to go straight away so I didn't keep it waiting.
The steering felt rock-hard and the error 'STEERING ASSIST FAILURE' appeared on the display.
Managed to get the car into a side road, turned off the ignition, waited a couple of secs, then turned it back on again and the car was fine. It also worked fine later, so I'm hoping it's a one-off.
I was wondering if it was because I'd turned the ignition on very quickly that time as I was in a hurry rather than waiting for the diagnostic lights to go out like I normally do. Anyone else had anything like this? Read more
i think you beat the system
was it you in my village today on the double yellow lines outside the cash
machine then on the bend?
;-)
buses often have a problem there
Sorry, no. Single yellow line on a sunday, so no parking restriction in force. :-)
In yesterday's Telegraph Honest John recommended the VW EOS to a buyer looking for a new CC. I recently bought a Ford Focus after looking a few VWs..All had problems with roof leaks creaking, ratles etc etc...On my experience I would say go for the Ford( if dont mind the long boot) NO rattles ,leaks, drives as well as the saloon and all the extras you could want for a big saving over the VW...so HJ why no Ford on the list?

That explains it Well for my money.. rather no leaks!! The ford IMHO has a better feel on the road with no scuttle shake at all.. Neve thought I would find myself promoting Ford but the car is pleasure to drive ..GO FORD

I am having a problem with my Mazda 323 Diesel its making a strange metallic knocking noise when accelerating, when the engine is hot. Noise occurs from 1500rpm on
I had a problem last week which only occurred once, accelerated hard big puff of black smoke and after 500 yds white/grey smoke everywhere like an engine blow up! This has only happened once and is running fine again except for the engine noise when hot.
I have taken the car to the garage who suspected an egr valve they blanked this off, but the noise is still there.
Any ideas please? Could it be a turbo problem or injector pump?

Take it to a Mazda equipped garage to get some diagnostic tests done. Whatever it is needs sorting asap, no point in running it further or you risk an even bigger bill, it could be any one of a number of things.
How accurate are these retained value percentages we read about in magazines like What Car? and such? for example, it claims that my Focus will retain about £6000 of it's original list price of £15,000 at three years, but when you look on things like autotrader, it's difficult to see 4 year mk1 TDCi's with low-ish mileage for that kind of price...
Also they claim Golf's at 3 years, 36,000 miles would have 60% of their £15,000 new value retained, which is about £9000, but again I don't see this reflected in autotrader.
So is it just because that many are dealer-sold, and I'll get much lower trade-in value that the retained figure reflects, or is it really, it's a bit of an innaccurate prediction, that's trying to predict future demand and can't? Read more
The simple fact is that you more you spend on a car, the more there is to depreciate. Clever marketing by the Germans makes people focus on the % drop rather than the £ drop.
E.g. A £18,000 Mondeo might be worth 35% of its (full list) value in 3 years. A £28,000 3-series might be worth 50% of its list value in 3 years. But if you pay, say £6,000 less than list for the Mondeo, and £2,000 less than list on the BMW, you will have lost £5,700 on the Mondeo and £12,000 on the BMW. And yet What Car will laud the BMWs residual values
Thanks DD new to this stuff.
