My car has "suddenly" become ultra fuel efficient, I don't understand why. Is the weather spot on for max fuel efficiency at the moment I wonder ?
I'm now getting over 70+mpg at a steady 70mph or any dual carriageway or motorway, and 77+mpg on A roads with varying gradients etc. (GPS and speedo verified).
These figures are around 10% more than I use to get. I've check the trip computer, fuel fill up tank to tank and mileage etc.
The car is a Ford Focus 1.6 TDCi 109 and using BP ultimate diesel.
Is anyone else getting these kinds of economy returns from their TD's ? Any ideas ? Read more
i have a y regs citroen xsara and lately the engine management light has startd to stay on and now it wont start, ive had it on the computer but there is no faults,
can anyone tell me wonts wrong with it?????? cheers ricky Read more
well there is a fault cause it wont start! if its petrol check out fuel pump & crankshaft sensor. ECM won't detect a cranksensor fault as it won't know your trying to start it! still asuming its petrol.
Overall I'm please with the new look to the forum. I especially like the way new posts stand out. However, can I make two suggestions:

Odd?
Hi,
Ever since I've owned this car I've had this problem which is getting darn annoying! On entering the car I turn the key one click, then press a button to turn the immobiliser off. On pressing the button the dash lights up, in particular a yellow light which looks like the engine (it is situated under the battery light and to the left of the hazards ie. bottom left of dash).
This yellow light then 'clicks', extinguishes and I am then able to start the motor.
Sometimes(1) when the light clicks and I turn over the motor, it dies almost immediately even if keeping the pedal to the metal. If I then reset the ignition and try again, the yellow light extinguishes but doesn't click and I'm unable to turn the engine over. If impatience sets in and I just try to ignore it, after so many goes the battery is taking a severe battering. I therefore have to wait before it resets itself and I get a click once more. Now this could be a few minutes or a good hour! Imposible to tell but can be rather embarrassing if you're queuing for petrol say.
Anyone any idea what the 'eck the problem is here? Not up on cars at all so it may not be an immobiliser problem at all, car just keeps on going (when I can get it to start!) so am otherwise happy. Thanks!
(1) Sometimes being very short journeys or when the weather is warm (it was ok all winter but has started again recently) Read more
you don't need to buy a new Main Relay - just follow the trail of links below, they explain why the relay fails in the first place, and how to resolder it:
www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?v=e&t=39...0
If it's not the Main Relay it's almost certainly the ignitor module.
Have you seen this? 5 litre V8, 400bhp, 0 -62 in 4.9 seconds. Nice! For PG maybe?

Hello all,
I have just purchased a (used) Peugeot PU2294A radio CD, made by Clarion for our Peugeot 106. The unit works okay both on radio and CD but when switched off the code needs to be re-entered each time. I have checked that I have a permanent live on the plug and this is okay. Is there an internal fuse on the unit? Does anyone have any ideas? Is the radio CD duff or are the connections not standard? The wiring on the car matches is standard.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Servelan, I read often but post occasionally. Read more

Hi all, taking my missus away to France this June for 2 week hols. The Saab 9/3 convertible is roomy, however Missus T takes enough clothes and makeup for a whole year. I only take a toothbrush and my fold up bike. Suggestions please for a bootrack for the fold up? There is what appears to be a black upturned sharks tooth thingy sticking up in the middle of the boot, so needs to have a bit of room underneath. Ta. Read more
Saab make a specific ski rack for the convertible - maybe a bike rack too?
Fiat Punto 1.3 Multijet Diesell 2004
Problem Description:-
Car starts normally from both cold and hot. Idle is satisfactory. Problem is manifest when accelerating from below 3000rpm, no ?power? is present, noticeable when on hills, pulling away etc. Subjectively worse when cold, Above 3000rpm, turbo cuts in and for the next 500rpm, a surge in power is present, then engine power as expected. This car has 20k miles and is a rebuild from a heavy front end accident.
Work to date:-
EGR pipe work removed and cleaned, breather was heavily fouled with oily sludge.
EGR actuator removed and checked for contamination.
ECU shows no faults on Fiat tester and the Launch X341.
MAP sensor checked as ok by substitution
With MAF sensor disconnected, test drive revealed no change in performance
New Fiat MAF sensor fitted, no improvement
EGR actuator checked for resistance, approx 8Ω, 9V present with ignition ON, 12V present with engine running.
EGR actuator disconnected and test driven, no change.
EGR actuator fed directly from battery, clicks could be heard from solenoid
Help please!

Well how much power are you expecting? Its a bit of a slug at low revs naturally.

Are modern cars losing their character? I mean, I used to own a mk 1 Focus, and having now bought a mk 2, which is superior in every respect, I can't help but feel it's a bit souless. I always felt my Focus to have oodles of character, and this new one seems to be lacking. Also it's something I noticed with the Clio II- III jump, another car which was superior in every way, has again lost a lot of character in the transfer. And they say modern Peugeots have lost it too.
So are there any new cars about today (I mean in the mainstream, generally) that actually still have character, or has the quest for perfection left us with a lot of bland cars? Read more
So you resort to calling people names but I'm the "gross ignorant coarse" one?
Not you jase1, just the calumnies. I am sure you are the nicest and subtlest of chaps on a good day...
It is interesting to find where Michelin tyres are made. My son's HP's are made in Brazil, my wife's Primacys are made in Spain as are my tractor's.
Do they still make Michelins in France?

Unless you're down to your last fiver I suggest you fill up when it's nearly empty, enjoy the drive and to hell with the consumption.
