Hi,
We need to buy a second car seat for our baby as just having one seat isn?t practical as our baby will soon be going to a childminder.
I have a car with ISOFIX fittings and would like to get a car seat that can use them for maximum safety. Due to the fact our baby is only 5 months old, she must be in a rear facing seat, Group 0 I think.
I have seen seats that are Group 0+1, they go from birth to about 4 years old. They fit in the car facing towards the rear until about a year, then you turn the chair around and it becomes a forward facing seat. This seems ideal however I can?t find one that has ISOFIX. Does anybody know of such a seat that is both Group 0+1 and has ISOFIX?
Thanks

In any case, think carefully about whether the same seat can work well for a baby, who can't support her own head and has to travel virtually lying down, and a toddler, who will want to face forward, sit up straight and look around. Chances are that one function or the other will be compromised - it'll probably be safe but may not be comfortable - so it might be better to buy the best rear-facing seat you can get now and then move on to the best forward facer when she's ready for it. It's not a great expense against all the others involved in running a family and a car.
Agree with you on one point, though - moving a Group 1 seat from one car to the other is a pain. Them things is HEAVY!
whilst an experienced driver there are a few insections that i try and avoid whereever possible.
Living in Weybridge surrey, I always avoid the M3 / M25 Junction, its just so dangerous and generally slow traffic, so when returning from the South, depart the M3 and return via Chobham.
The other junction that I hate is the M25/M26/A21 -
The final juction I also avoid is the M1/M25 , not because of many problems, it's just I find the A41, Watford area ALWAYS has some of the cheapest fuel around, a good toilet and food stop and very easy access back onto the M1

Obviously not done the Sunbury cross roundabout at 5:30 in the evening then 'enery.
Certainly NOT! I would not entertain it. I know the ways around it. That is why my route avoids it.
I think you may have not identified my route from my limited description.
Details from Heathrow T4
A30 towards Staines til the first roundabout and take the first left. Through Lakeside and past the well know Felthan Young Offenders and straight on.
Cross straight over the A244 at Lower Feltham. Take Sunbury Road but do NOT take the obvious right (signed to Sunbury) at the mini roundabout but go left on Feltham Hill Rd and then join the A316 Country Way ( by the old dairy with the concrete cows on the roof). Then enjoy zooming over Sunbury Cross at NSL.
Not an obvious route and a little bit longer but enjoyable and you always make very acceptable progress.
I've just recently taken out a two vehicle policy for SWMBO's car and mine. Her policy had expired, but mine still has about a month to run, so my car is effectively covered by two policies for this time.
I didn't think it would be a problem, but what would happen should I need to make a claim during this time? Read more
Lots of things are insured twice - that doesn't matter. What obviously does matter is if you tried to claim twice.
Example: I might have personal liability cover that insures me against accidental damage I might do to other people's property - my tree falling onto next door's shed, the postman slipping on the frosty path, or my tripping over a ming vase in a museum.
But each of those might well be alternatively covered as well. Next door probably have their own house insurance, I would hope the Post Office has an insurance scheme for its staff, and the museum might have insurance too.
I understand that in each case, there would be a first line, followed by the second if the first wouldn't pay. Similarly I have car insurance for third party damage. But if my insurance company goes bust, the injured party could claim on his own comprehensive policy.
Hopefully someone can help me with this. Having had my heater matrix replaced 6 months ago, my cooling fan stopped working and the car has been getting REALLY hot. Changed the cooling fan switch and it seems to work now. When the heater matrix was leaking I was chucking all sorts of leak stoppers into the rad. (with varying levels of success) Is is possible that these caused the problem with the cooling fan switch? If so should I flush the whole system (something I haven't done before). How easy is it on an astra and what do I have to be particularly careful of?
Any help much appreciated

Thanks, Bell Boy, great stuff - welding gloves it is then. It wasn't Scarborough though, it was Guildford at Rush hour from Reading. God only knows how I made it without disappearing in a puff of steam.
Nice one

Basically i cant for the life of me work out how to get the rocker cover past the master cylinder on a 306 xsi,, the just seems to be no clearance whatso ever,, any of you lot done it before and could tell me how you did it.
many thank, jord Read more
Ha ha ha! I know your problem oh so well, having wrestled with the same issue when wanting to do a simple clutch cable swap on the missus' 306 SRi Sedan with 1.8 XU7 8 valve engine. Getting the rocker cover off took an age.
I *did* get it to come off eventually, and can now do it easily having learned the knack.
As you twist and lift, look down the back of the rocker cover; you'll see how it fouls and be able to align accordingly.
Get it right and there is just enough room to get it out.
I echo the gasket problem as it is a poor design and easily leaks.
For the sake of a few quid I throughly degreased both surfaces and fitted a new one.
Good luck.
hi,can anyone help me please?i have an old non-running motorbike in my garden and am having it towed away.i would like to keep the plate but everyone i have asked tells me that the plate can only be transfered from a vehicle which is .taxed, mot'd and insured.as this is never going to happen in this case does anyone know a way round this.thanks Read more
If the old vehicle is restorable, you will have to restore it to MOT standards and get it taxed. Then transfer the number, assuming it has not time-expired or is limited for some other reason.
If it is beyond restoration you need to invest in another vehicle that either is running or can be made so. After a lot of restoration work, you may well have cannibalised and swapped so many parts that it can be very difficult to say which vehicle is which.
Saw this in the paper today,
It weighs just 900lb, has a top speed of 101mph -and is made entirely out of wood.
It took furniture maker Friend Wood, 46, more than 2000 hours to build his three-wheel, tear-drop shaped car, which he has named 'Tryane II'.
The wooden car has a top speed of 101mph
The two-seater was put together using the chassis and 602cc engine from a Citroen 2CV. Mr Wood then built up layers of African mahogany around a basic mould using a boat-building technique known as 'cold moulding'.
The car is a a three-wheel adaption of the classic four-wheeled 1969 Citroen Diane and is able to do between 55 and 70 miles per gallon. Read more
Exactly, we don`t want hard wood in the cockpit.
Hi,
I am a noobie, so please be gentle with me!
I want to check the repair history for my BMW. The main dealers can do this, by performing a lookup against my car?s VIN and running a detailed ?Vehicle History Report?, but won?t do it in the depth I require unless they receive written authorisation from the previous owner. Which probably won?t be forthcoming.
The type of information I want to find out includes the service codes, showing the issues the car had when it came in for each service.
This is an example record:
Repair History
RO # Claim Repair Date Entry Date Mileage Dealer Service Code Location
1??0?8 0?9?5 04/1?/200? 04/1?/200? 9?,5?? 1?2?8 11530115UW
Has anyone been in this position before? If so, did you manage to find out the information?
Ta,

Car insurance renewal dropped through the door today. £582, or £635 by monthly payment.
Ouch.
Quick trip online, out popped £387, 0% APR for monthly payment - so just 60% of the quoted price of the renewal. And to save a further £40 I could remove the protected NCD that I'd never asked to be added to the policy
The only difference is that they had reduced my excess to nil (explains why I couldn't find it on the renewal quotation), whereas I had it as £350 with the online. That made under £100 difference to the renewal quotation, BTW.

Online quotes from a company are normally cheaper than by phone - operating costs are lower. I always check online before renewing car insurance, no matter who the insurer I'm with.
Had the same experience with the Pru building and home contents insurance in February. Been with the Pru for more than 40 years, but about two years ago Churchill commenced underwriting for it.
This year, the Pru wanted £430 so I went online and Churchill came up with a figure half that price...:-)
So the Pru lost a long standing customer.
