Hopefully someone can help me with this. Having had my heater matrix replaced 6 months ago, my cooling fan stopped working and the car has been getting REALLY hot. Changed the cooling fan switch and it seems to work now. When the heater matrix was leaking I was chucking all sorts of leak stoppers into the rad. (with varying levels of success) Is is possible that these caused the problem with the cooling fan switch? If so should I flush the whole system (something I haven't done before). How easy is it on an astra and what do I have to be particularly careful of?
Any help much appreciated

getting the old hose clips off will be the hardest part
i wear welding gloves if i have a problem like this
these switches just give up the ghost, i assume because they dont get used that often, they normally fail on the a64 going to scarborough on a bank holiday monday when you are in the bottleneck queue.
dont forget the antifreeze when replenishing

Thanks, Bell Boy, great stuff - welding gloves it is then. It wasn't Scarborough though, it was Guildford at Rush hour from Reading. God only knows how I made it without disappearing in a puff of steam.
Nice one
