I have yet to buy a Haynes manual and my temp guage is not working does anybody know what fuse number its likely to be? If I test the fuse and it works where is the temp guage sender unit located on the 1.1 Valencia? On my dads Escort Haynes suggest you have to drain the cooling system in order to remove it, is this true? As longs as the engines not hot I don't see the point on draining the entire cooling system. Reconnect it and see what it does. It may have been disconnected because the guage didn't work and the last owner was fiddling - you never know!
I am trying to install an aftermarket alarm, largely for the remote locking capability, into my 97 mondeo lx, (which only has infra-red).
I just can't work out which wires I have to connect the lock and unlock signal wires to. I have a Haynes but I can't work out which wires trigger the central locking and unlocking.
I hope someone can help.
Thanks, Read more
It's a bit late now but Ford offer their own central locking, remotes and upgrade kits(to fit c/l,alarms,better alarms).
Hi all,
Just finished helping me mate restore his 1990 Skoda Rapid RiC (very rare apparently) and we have been wondering about taking it to a Skoda Car Show. I have trawled the net looking but had no joy. We would be willing to travel up to 100 miles from Sheffield
Any suggestions on where to look
Also any same suggestions for Audi's too so I can take my car one day
Thanks Read more
My daughter used to have a 1300 saloon. I joined the owners club as a source of information - brilliant! I do remember that 'if it could go wrong - it would go wrong'.
Heater hose blew up like a balloon before dumping coolant all over footwell.
Heater fan changed speed of its own accord
Window winder rack popped out of door drain hole preventing door closing.
Rear semi-trailing arms twisted so much the negative camber wore out the tyres very quickly.
etc.
etc.
etc.
Great fun to drive though.
I am not really sure what HJ is getting at here, is he saying that we should not strive for lower emissions because (for some unstated reason) "Europe is having its economy destroyed"?
If cars are made with lower emissions will they not be sold in China?
Do the Chinese not care about their enviroment?
"A bunch of unelected nutters" is provocotive language from someone who is himself unelected.
What exactly is HJ on about? Read more
The item on this evening's BBC1 News was followed immediately by a report on the Airbus, how big it is, and how cheaper fares might possibly encourage more people to fly.
{car make added to header to clarify what 'Rattle' is talking about - DD}
I have spent just over £500 on it since I bought it 3 weeks ago (including the purchase price) and its still not running right.
I won't go into the technical side of it because that was discussed on another site but I have a feeling the engine is on its way out. The car has four months MOT and runs fine, but its got excessive white smoke which could indicate a head gasket failure (my tests so far are inconclusive).
I have just spent £90 on a service who said I just have slight cam shaft damage but its not a problem, but the smoke surely is? Would I have any come back with the garage if the head gasket failed or something because they didn't spot it?
Would I be best to take the car to be part exchanged now while its still in good running order or should I keep mine till the engine blows? The suspension and breaks are all in perfect working order but there is a bit or rust (not structural yet) near a rear suspension mount which would be a fetal MOT failure.
How much is this car likely to be worth? It has 102k, good body work, everything works fine and its a 95N.
I am going to take the car for a long run on Sunday morning and hopefully this may cure the white smoke problem.
Either way in its current condition would I get £300 for it? Read more
Thanks :) The car has been serviced and I know the bloke who did it so if there was any head gasket damage you think he would have noticed it. The air filter is brand new.
I guess all my mates are teasing me about it so that makes me more worried, even my dad said my car was a bit smokey and he once drove his escort with a collapsed suspension coil ignoring the noise :p:
It starts first time, it stops, it goes so I guess I should enjoy it for 4.5 months until MOT time :). If it fails the MOT badly I will just take the engine apart so I can do services myself in future.
I tend to indicate when going from lane 3 to 2, in case someone in lane 1 is going to pull out. Rarely when going from lane 2 to 1.
I have a 2001 Mk2 Mondeo St200
When I'm on full lock to the left or right, my front wheels seem to 'clunk' as they turn. It sounds as though the tyres are being chewed up and I can feel the car jerking forwards. The inner front wheel ( as I turn either way ) has a big outward camber on it on full lock and the tyre is being squashed down into the outer edge of the wheel.
I notice that just before I hit full lock, my steering wheel seems to go loose and it falls onto the steering rack stop.
I noticed when I was replacing my discs that the rubber gator clips had broken. I replaced these with cable ties. The car has only done 29k miles. Can CV joints go within this king of milage?
Or is this 'clunking' normal for the lowered setup of my car?

I'm not sure what type, or if I have a LSD. The car is a 2001 ST200 Ltd Ed 4 door. It is number 297 of the 300 built.
Not sure if this will help.
Hi, Does anyone know if citroen fit particle filters to their uk spec vehicles, as I've got a xsara HDI 90 (late 2003) and need to know as this determines what sort of oil can be used, the service book states fully synthetic only if a particle filter is fitted!. Cheers!. Read more
Older 90/110 HDi''s don't have particle filters. Earliest cars they were fitted to was the 2.2 HDi C5, some of the newer 1.6 and 2.0 136 engines have them.
Total Quartz 9000 fully synth is the best oil for HDi's, particle filter or not. GSF sell it very reasonable.
Starts next Tuesday. Feature in Radio Times including obligatory, correctly coloured Marina, but, deary deary me, page 13, some copy writer who doesn't know his (or her) arm from his elbow has described a Ford Corsair as a Vauxhall! Mind you, it's in an interesting (non standard?) 2 tone paint job, unless someone knows better...!
