1.Going on another thread I would be interested to know how many backroomers have checked there bonnet catches to make sure they are working correctly.

2. How many backroomers have had a bonnet catch failure.

1. Never.
2. Never.

Same key as door and boot key.

I realise that. But it's far simpler to pull a lever in the cabin than having to faff about flicking the Ford badge out the way, inserting the key, turning one way to unlock the bonnet, then turning the key back the other way to overcome the safety catch.

It is renewal time - as usual I have trawled the web and come up with an odd quote.

My car insurance that is up for renewal is 8 yrs old and although I have Comp Ins I dabbled with the idea of 3rd party.

Same Company for all 3 prices
Comp - Self & Wife - £200 excess Premium = £220
3rd Party F&T Self & Wife Premium £196

Comp -Self & Wife - £1,000 excess £166

Taking a large excess might not be advisable but it is Comprehensive it gives more cover than 3rd party e.g. winscreen cover, hire car in event of an accident etc etc and costs £30 less than 3rd party F&T.

In the end I have taken the existing Ins Co - £180 Comp with £200 excess - not bad for a Group 16 car all be it 8 years old Read more

I heard comprehensive was cheaper than TP as people who took comp cover were less likely to make a claim than those who took TP or TPF&T ,makes sense if true.

The mayor of kiev had a car accident on saturday - his private vehicle was hit by a Volvo.

Being a succesful businessman (banker) and born again christian he has managed to balance his capitalistic activities with charitable work from within the safely cossetted environment of the first Maybach (mobile temple to bad taste) imported to the country.

Reports state that damage will have to repaired in Germany - lots of speculation on wether this refers to the Maybach or the face of the volvo driver after the alleged 'quiet chat' with his bodyguards. Read more

Just discovered Gsf car parts online. There prices look quiet good. Has anybody used them ? Read more

yorkiebar

Yes, recommended a lot on here.

In my view they are not always as good as you may believe, but compare prices with other sources and make up your own mind?

Have found vw dealers to be cheaper on some parts and some of the brands they use are a bit poorer than I would lke. But in fairness some of their stuff is genuine or equivalent quality too!

A friend of mine bumped into a parked car at a shopping centre. They didnt have anything to leave a note and couldnt hang around waiting so took the cars license plate (there was a scratch on the other car). They have informed their insurance company and passed the details on - is this now up to the insurance company to sort out. Read more

You must work in the public sector. You wouldn't get jam on it like that in the private sector.

The engine diagnostic light has come on - Citroen Picasso 51 plate 1.8SX petrol. I want to buy a cheap diagnostic unit that can tell me the trouble code and reset the light - they are only a few pounds on ebay. But how can I tell which interface will work? I would assume ISO from what I've read on the web but someone on another forum reports problems. Does anyone know what will work. In fact I'd like to get a proper PC interface but that seems even less likely to work! Read more

Since your car is late 2001/2002 model then it should be EOBD compliant (strictly speaking OBD2 is a US standard - EOBD is European-market). So any EOBD-compatible reader should work with it.
I suggested buying the EngineCheck with CAN simply because you would have a tool that is useable on the greatest variety of cars - and at £100 all-in its very good value.

Whilst sitting in the car waiting for the wife I was playing with the steering and suddenly noticed the power steering was working without the engine running. I assume this means it has electric power steering, either that or the steering is very light anyway.

Any ideas? Read more

i have a peugeot 206 x plate i had both rear cylinders and shoes replaced since that day my handbrake was very high, i had it tightend up, few days later it went completly so i had it replaced but only to go again a week later. whats wrong handbrakes last longer than a week Read more

yorkiebar

Take it back.

Its a typical peugeot system where the handbrake adjustment should not be touched until the rear shoes automatic adjusters are set correctly. Setting it before this is done will make the handbrake run out of adjustment quickly; as per your case.

Ask them to re check brakes etc and to get it working correctly.

Moving on from the onboard mpg thread how can we sure that we are actually receiving the fuel we have paid for ?.

Are the pumps checked on a regular basis ?, are they checked by an independant authority ?.

Has anyone actualy filled a container and checked for themselves.
