the intercooler and pipes cleaned
but I still get a hissing

Cleaned??? What would be the point of that?

As Xileno was pointing out; these early intercoolers were unreinforced and prone to bulging and then cracking. [AFAIK nothing to do with the well-known EGR fault - just inadequately specified.]

If you've still got a hissing sound; then it's unlikely to be the EGR valve as that is built into the manifolds and operates virtually silently. It's far more likely to be a split in the intercooler that opens under pressure.

The intercooler is sandwiched between the air-con condenser and the main radiator. A quick look should show if it's top and bottom face are distended from the straight and horizontal.

As a non-biker, not sure which is best, but as I've mentioned before.... forcemotorcycles.com gives a pretty good selection of ex MOD & Police machines,

Maybe a chat with Nick, the guy who's place it is, would be worthwhile, if he's anything that would suit.

I'm planning to go to auction tomorrow with my brother and a friend. They both know quite a bit about cars. But I would like your professional advise on what to look for when buying a car from the auction. Whats the best way of approaching from finding the right car to bidding and everything. I'm looking for a diesel car and my budget is around £2k mark. Read more

I think you need to increase your budget to about 3K.

I just noticed you went to the auction yesterday, so the question has to be Did you buy a car? And what did you get?

If you did not buy....

Are you buying at an independent auctions or the national chain BCA?

I always choose the make and model I want before I go, I also then only go if the model I want is on sale. I then get there early and give the car a complete external inspection, underneath tyres etc, check if the doors are open, and look inside if they are and in the engine bay, then be there when it is started.

I was once looking at a pair of cars (Omega 2.0) both the same, one had a new exhaust but inside was stinking of fags, the other was clean inside but did not have a new exhaust. I ignored the 1st one which sold for roughly the same money as I bought the second (clean) one for. It turned out to be a good car - it was about 4 years old when I bought it. and cost about 2,800 but I can't remember.

Thinking of buying a second hand Zafira (150bhp CDTI Design/SRI) and can find any/many with cruise control. I know this is an optional extra from the factory, but wondered if it was possible to fit one at a later stage in it's life ? Read more

Autofinders.ltd.uk has given me a quote for a new Skoda £1555 less than the official OnTheRoad price, but I'm wondering if it's too good to be true.

I've waved the quote in front of the local Skoda chap. He can't possibly beat it and he has given me a stack of reasons to go with him and not Autofinders. Most of these don't trouble me, but I do wonder if I should take him seriously when he says theirs is a small garage, their own customers come first, and I may have trouble booking a car in for servicing and so on iwhen it's not bought from them.

Anyone else been down this road with Autofinders, DrivetheDeal with experiences - positive or negative - to help me with my decision?

Thanks Read more

Lud - basically in this day and age you need to concentrte on your driving. In my experience you need to concentrate on shaving as well - however clever you are you can;t give both your full attention.

had a look at this plug but all seems fine!!
I stripped down the control panel today because my pug dealer said it could be the printed circuit board inside.
All seemed normal here to so put it back together again, checked fuses wobbled the relays then as if by magic it started working again!!
Think its gonna be coming back tho!!
