when drivng along in the alhambra it ocassionally makes a "whizzing jet engine type sound" obviously a lot quieter but still audible. when we pull over and switch off the engine it continues for a few minutes, a bit like a cooling fan does, It doesnt alter with the revs and it seems to come from under the car towards the rear.
It also sometimes ticks, the tick also is not in time with the revs.
There doesnt seem to be any loss in peformance, but something is not right.
We, our local regular garage and local exhaust center are scratching our heads.
Has any one else had this problem or have any incling what it might be?

After a fantastic event in Belgium and Holland last year, I'm organising my company's second sub £300 rally and wondered if anyone's aware of a track/circuit that would let a bunch of guys loose for an hour or two for a reasonable sum. I'm not interested in fancy £100 a day + track days - just something to give everyone a chance to have a blast and save themselves from picking up penalty points.
Location could be UK or somewhere else across the channel as the route's not yet been set.
I've done quite a bit of research to no avail so any help would be gratefully received.

Having exhausted rugby, football and women conversations the pub conversation turned to cars. One of our number is heading toward retirement and last car time. He reckons he's got 10 years of driving left before various bits of him will have fallen off rendering him beyond economic repair. Because of his age spares will also be difficult to come by.
He was wondering if he would be better off buying say a 1 year old average car (Ford, Vauxhall etc) and keeping it 5 years then repeating the exercise again or buying a "quality" car (BMW,Audi etc) and keeping it the full 10 years. Read more
I'm starting to feel better now. Pedantry over.
Anyone interested in some motoring anecdotes from my 9 years, and growing, here? John said you may be, on the other hand he's probably just fed up with hearing them directly!!

Did you actually drive anywhere Espada?
I've driven Porsche GT2 round Rome and its been one of the most frightening things that I've ever done, mostly cos I was driving a £50K on third party insurance and would be paying for any repairs myself!
The car drivers are mostly madder than Mad Mad MacMad, three times winner of Mr Mad contest. In that respect its identical to Paris. However add to that mix a constant swarm of suicidal scooter riders and the place is about the worst I've ever had to drive in. Fortunately both the car and I escaped unscathed.

I was looking at the Stig's lap times (Google search) and find the resulting table quite... startling. The BMW 535d beat lots of very quick motors, including (but not limited to): BMW M3 / Nisan 350Z / Merc SL 55 AMG. More alarmingly, it was within less than 2 seconds of beating the Honda NSX, 911 turbo, Audi S4, Imprezza STI.
Is this a compelling arguement for the torque vs. BHP diesel brigade or am I missing something here - I know that the Beemer is a good car but you'd think round a track that some of these cars (like the 911) should be all over it? Read more
Real world overtakes in the 535d is as quick as anything as I've ever driven, never driven the 545 but it doesn't surprise me that it is as quick. It is a phenomenally good all round performance car, but looks like "nothing" in most circumstances. It is a pussy cat in town driving and is mated to the a superb auto box. Stig is one thing me driving this to work is another it is an incredible car by any standard. If you get the chance drive one and I defy you to find anything negative in it's response or performance against a petrol car. (maybe the 335 is the exception - haven't driven one yet though). Sorry to harp on but this car can be driven in flat cap or racing helmet mode.
I've got an S-reg Audi A3 1.8T 3dr, and having put the driver's seat forward one day, it won't go back into place again.
The rear of the seat clicks upright, but the entire seat rises up (as when you try to put it forward), and won't stay down.
I have tried to look at the mechanism, and can't see anything that is blocking it, but it's not obvious to me whereabout the "click" is.
Any ideas?
Thanks! Read more
I hope someone can help.
I have a 1998 Peugeot 306 diesel. For the last few months for no reason the to start the car in the mornings it would take 10 minutes, constantly turning over the engine until it eventually started. I have replaced the glo tubes, had it serviced, still no joy. Now the battery has worn down and we have to jump the battery in the mornings. I have taken it to a garage and they haven't found anything, not sure they actually knew where to start looking.
It seems that the diesel is having a problem getting to the carburetor, we are also now having to pump the diesel through the tube.
I am about to purchase a new battery to see if that helps. I have spent a fortune over the last 5 months, more than the car is worth so would like to find out if anyone else had the same problem and if its easy to sort.
Many thanks Read more
"It seems that the diesel is having a problem getting to the carburetor, we are also now having to pump the diesel through the tube."
Bingo! Any competent diesel mechanic will be able to sort this easily. There is an air leak somewhere that is allowing the fuel to drain back to the tank. The black bulb is the fuel primer, so what you are having to do is pump the fuel back up to the injection pump before it will start. Look to see if the fuel leaks out anywhere when the primer is pumped. Get your mech to check the injection leak off pipes. If in doubt replace the primer bulb, they can split and leak, or the internal non return valves can fail. If you can, park the car with the front end down the hill, you may well find it will a) start in the morning, and b) reveal the leak to you! If you have spent £££ trying to sort this, suggest you find another mechanic.....!

Is it illogical? It must be Citroen....
Hi, I have a Renault Megane (2004) 1.5 dci and I have had 4 lightbulbs go in the last month - 2 headlight bulbs, one sidelight bulb and one brake light. I have also had 5 different indicator bulbs since I bought the car in 2005. I suspect that it's not just coincidence that these bulbs have all gone. Has anyone had any similar problems? If so, was any electrical fault found. It wouldn't be so bad if it was easy to change the bulbs but it's not!

I suspect that Dynamic Dave has put his finger on it. This car should still be under warranty unless it was a Jan 04 model over 60K miles.
Folks,
We have a number of local ones. They are annoying.
Does The Plod do anything about them? Or is this the domain of the local authority?
How can it be set in motion? Surely, it's just a matter of a noise meter and a man with a clipboard?
Sure, I like automotive noise, having run bikes in the past, but these 9-inch diameter things are just selfish and pointless.
Suggestions welcomed!

Wouldn't it be nice to live in a place where your house wasn't burgled AND you didn't have morons screeching round car parks?
Lud, I sympathise with your thinking we're all curtain twitchers, I try my hardest not to be, but the fact remains that one of the reasons I don't live in the big smoke is because it's quieter. So, I do NOT want people screeching round car parks late at night, playing their happy hardcore at full whack and beeping their horns to prove to everyone that they're alive.
Contrary to how I may come across, I am a fun-loving, free-wheeling drinking smoking gambling type of guy..... I just don't feel the urge to inflict my noise and vices on those who aren't interested. Always been like that, it's a lesson these muppets could do with learning.
