I have just purchased a 2007 C5 with the 2.0 litre petrol engine and 4speed automatic (AL4) gearbox.
Has anyone any experience of these engines and if so are they reliable and are there any issues that i should be aware of please?
cheers

Cheers chaps,
So i might be lucky....but i could be in for some fun and games. I kept my old 2.0 litre diesel anyway so ive still got that to fall back on i guess. And i got an astounding discount off the list price, so i'll still be smiling even if it does play up a bit.
Cheers

So can someone explain to me how it is that I am going to be hammered by a new tax - should I just go along with this and pay - or should I help enlarge the carbon footprint by giving car manufacturers a new customer......
Wouldn't be a lot more sensible if we all ran our cars into the ground and then bought a new one? Oh obseletion is a fickle thing.

Can anybody help me with this?

My MK4 Golf seems to have a problem in that it cuts out when first driving or when changing down gears (this especially happens when changing to 2nd). I noticed that the rev counter will move very quickly and the head lights will dim while this happens. I spoken to some friends who think it maybe transmission problem. This is quite worringly as the car has cut out a few times in traffic.

Any advice appreciated. Read more

Hi all,

Job has come up at work but its would involve driving to Oldbury, Birmingham every day from Stoke. Can anyone tell me what that stretch of road is like ?

I do have the option of getting the train from Stoke but its prohibitively expensive. Another option would be to nip down to Stafford (on the A34) and get the train from there (a lot lot cheaper and I play golf in that area so its handy).

Ive used the M6 tons of times but never really in the rush hour (s)....and the thought of putting my 96 TD Golf Estate through 500 miles a week seems a bit harsh !!

Any thoughts ??

Thanks

From experience - I live in Rugeley and work near the airport and I don't go that way often. . . .

If I hit the M6 Jn 11 at about 7 the queue starts between the services and M54 entry slip road. Eases a little after Jn 10 wallsall) and is normally doing around 40 at the M5 exit. It does move slowly and I can still get to work at 7:30 (Normal route is A51/A38/A446)

Don't go at 0900 - the queues are far worse - starts at Jn 11 and it moves slower.

If I hit it at 6:15 I can go all the way through at 40 (I do this when going to our Bristol office)

It is worse coming back - I frequently jump the M5/M6 queue (might regret advertising this) by taking M6 South sliproad and going round the A34 Junction (no give ways, no lane changes) and back up the M6 north.

There are few viable diversion routes and these times are based on no accidents.

It is worse than normal at the moment because there are road works on the M6 to M5 Slip road

Well, the Toledo is now 'bare' - no seats or carpet. I'm glad I did it, there were pools of water underneath the carpet. The smell isn't too pleasant either...

Will post some pics up later if anyone is interested! Read more

Mr Tickle

Hello Everyone,

A request for guidance, please. I have to drive from Warrington to Bedford tomorrow, arriving around noon. I have had a few suggestions, but am undecided. The suggestions include:-

M6, M1, A421

M6, M6(toll road),M1

M6, A50, M1 (avoids Birmingham completely).

Has anyone made a similar journey and is able to say if any of the above is any good/bad, or suggest an alternative?

Thanks,

Mr. T.

If you want the quickest route then M6, M6 Toll, M1 is the way to do it. If you are toll averse then take the A50, but while it's a good enough road the western end is a bit slow, and you can get held up for miles by slow overtaking vehicles.

I'd just come back from the tip with the trailer on and there was a Scenic parked nearly opposite my gate, preventing me from doing my normal nifty reverse into the yard. There was a group of 2 adults and an infant approaching from the front and I would block the single-track road that runs past our house when I stopped. So I pulled in hard to the left leaving the nearside rear corner of the car just inside the gate with the left indicator on, unhitched the trailer and wheeled it across the yard, jumped back in the car and selected reverse. Before I'd got the handbrake off the reverse sensors bleeped hysterically. Where were the pedestrians? Instead of leaving my car and trailer to their right and walking undisturbed along the kerbed path past the Scenic, they had evidently just filed through the 18" gap between the car and gatepost, practically kissing the flashing indicator, walked into the yard and a slight thud meant they were tripping over the towbar. I couldn't see them because there were bent down behind the tailgate presumably either helping the infant out of the way or starting some bizarre and risky game of hide-and-seek. There was some grumbling and finger-pointing from the female adult as they left the yard and I finally got the car put away. Some people shouldn't be let out unsupervised.

A new use for speed cameras (motoring link) has been devised, to control excessive speed of skiers in Italy.
tinyurl.com/28pzk7

With 26,000 accidents, 16 fatal, last year in Italy you can understand how speed on skis can kill or injure.

It is interesting to note that the age group for excess speed is 19 to 25 years old - a very similar age group to young drivers who do silly things in cars without regard to other road users.

I read in a mag a few years ago that in one South American country if you passed a police patrol whilst speeding, they shoot at you!

I now have another query i am hoping someone will be able to help me out on here,
After getting the fob reprogrammed and working everything now works fine apart form the passenger door which needs to be opened manually from inside the car,
Is there a quick fix solution for this or do i need a new lock/motor for that door?
Thanks in advance
