Anyone happen to know if Subaru service data is centralised; i.e. if I go into a Subaru dealer can they bring up the full service history of the car - even if serviced at other dealers? Read more

>Seems strange in this day and age, but car dealers tend to be very old

fashioned in their approach to IT.

Unless the Franchisee is forced to spend money on IT by way of subsidised hardware/software or forced to by the manufacturer many garage owners will spend nothing on IT.

I knew someone in the garage software a few years back and that was his opinion.

My car didn't knock, but it started to feel unstable at the back and certainly lurched into oversteer when pushed on corners.

Hi, on a "downer" today after driving past a stationary "speedsafe" van at roadworks, doing 60 on a 50 limit.
What will this mean to me, fine, points insurance, how long do the points last for?.
Caught for the first time in over 40 years driving!.

Regards Mal. :-( Read more

Tsk.

Time to get your speedometer properly calibrated mal. You weren't speeding at all, just dawdling.

My windscreen washer pump has stopped working, and the only thing I am sure of is that it is not the fuse. I took the wire connector off the pump, and the contacts could do with a bit of a clean, but are not corroded.

I am not sure if the problem is the pump itself or the switch. Is it as simple as putting a phase tester to the wire connector to find if it has power coming through when the switch is operated? If there is power coming through then could I assume it is the pump?

I am supposing there isn't a blockage anywhere otherwise I would still get some kind of sound from the pump. Read more

I'm not annoyed with you, you asked how to test the switch, "not how to bang on a new pump"

Find your self a local scrap yard and collect some lengths of wire, bulbs, bulb holders (older classic cars have individual bulb holders), fuses, hose clips etc. It'll only cost you a few pounds and save you a lot in the long run, you could get a pump from their too ( ask them to test it for you)

How much is the pump?

hi guys :)

car is a ford courier which is just the fiesta with a box stuck on the back of it hehe, diesel 1.8 about 9 years old.

in 2nd, 3rd and 4th it kangaroos when trying to accelerate, most noticable when going up a hill, but when i reach high revs in a gear it's nearly not noticable, noticed that when it kangaroos up a hill puffs of darker smoke come out timed with the kanagarooing.

opened up the bonnet, around the right injector there is a lot of dark soot (lost for the correct description, it's not oil, but black stuff on the metal)

i've been reading, alot, what i've found so far is that dark smoke is too rich air mixture....i know the air filter is due a change, would that by itself be enough to cause the problems? when it kangaroos by the way there is a loss of power.

Also found that maybe air is getting into fuel? injector leak (could the black around the injector be just that?) fuel filter need to be changed?

any opinions would be most welcome :)

thanks

thanks for the reply :)

don't think it's had a new fuel filter for ages, will go ahead and get a new one and change it (once i find an online manual on how to change one hehe, it looks straight forward though, it's a bosch filter, kind of the size of a small camping gas cylinder)

i've had the bonnet open and had a good look to see if anything is leaking but couldn't see anything, that soot mark has been there since i bought the car a year ago, but has got worse since the last time i opened the bonnet about 5 weeks ago.

does anybodyknow anything about these cars as i,m considering buying one
now i know that these cars have common rail engines (or as some would say common fail) but does anybody know if its a kia engine in or another manufactured engine also does anybody know of any common faults with these cars
if its a citroen hdi engine then thats not to bad because i am currently driving a piccasso with 247000 miles on the clock so i know the problems you may encounter waiting with interest in you,re comments Read more

According to Saturday's Telegraph Motoring, the Carens is a model that
is being superceded by the C'eed. This gives you two choices,
either buy a Carens at a keen price or consider the
new C'eed as it is better all round.

The Carens had just gone on sale it's not being replaced; Cee'd is the replacement for the Cerato.

Can someone please explain why the Jaguar X type diesel range has no auto box option?
Seems a very obvious lack! BMW and Mercedes have no trouble with an auto box for this class of car.

I know Jaguar thought long and hard about this. There were two choices.

1. Trilby hat and chequered blanket with leather straps
2. Auto box.

As you know, the hat and blanket won.

Has anyone used the current-model 1.6D Focus as a regular motorway car? I'm considering one for mostly one-up journeys because (a) I know I fit comfortably in the Focus and (b) the running costs and BIK rates look favourable. I've not driven a diesel one, though, so I'd be interested to know how other people find it, or if there's something else I should look at in that size and price range.

Thx

Re the 2.0TDci Focus mpg - my C Max with the same engine did around 37-39 mpg for the first few thousand miles. Things improved as the miles went on and now at 22,000 miles economy is up to 45-51 mpg. Just takes time tom loosen up -and boy can it shift!

I would appreciate some advice from those familiar with auctions.

I have a 1999(T) E46 BMW323i SE Titanium Silver, no modifications, car is straight, clean, no mech.faults, with just the usual bonnet stone chips inc. a couple of largish ones, and a couple of minor supermarket dings and some fine scratches on the lower f/bumper that won?t T-Cut out (ran over a badger!)?????.BUT it?s done 168,000 miles.
I bought the car in 2002 with 86K from a lease co, and have added the remaining 82K with no problems. Full service history - BMW and more recently BMW indy specialist plus I?ve documented additional oil changes done by myself. Car has never used any oil, ever.

I now need to sell the car and don?t have the opportunity to p/ex. I?m thinking that I?m unlikely to attract a private sale through Auto Trader or local papers due to the mileage. I?ve never bought or sold on Ebay ? don?t I need to have some feedback to be a credible seller?

I live quite close to a Manheim Auctions site (Gloucester) and although they are mainly lcv they do have a Saturday sale for cars (dealer p/ex,trade, & private).

The online Glass?s valuation puts the car at £2780 average condition with 150k miles (it won?t value over this mileage) as a trade in to a dealer when buying another car.

Ok ? finally! ? the questions:

1)- Does anyone have any idea what price I could expect to get in an auction ?
2) - The MOT is to end June ? would it help to get a new MOT? ? or a waste of another £45?
3) - The auction fee is £40 + 10% of the sale price ? Is this about right compared to other sites?
4) - And ? what would be a reasonable reserve price? (presumably if it doesn?t sell or reach reserve I lose £40 & pay the full £40 for re-entry?)
Any other tips re: selling at auction - I want to avoid being ?turned over? ! if possible.

Sorry for such a long post ? but I wanted to give ALL the facts to enable the best advice.

Thanks,

Jacks
