All,
Just got back my trusty Audi 80 back after a accident repair, they lent me a NEW Shape Corsa 1.2 Club. First impressions were is that Ive never liked hatchbacks, but this changed my mind.
Handling spot on even on damp roads, Audi always understeers
Quicker than my 2.0 115bhp Audi, despite only have a 1.2 80bhp engine.
Very smooth and refined, and well equipped.
Spot on

All,
How does being a victim of road accidents that arent your fault affect your insurance. I have been in 3 accidents in the last 3 years, none of which were my fault. All third partys have admitted liabailty and my NCD have no been affected.
However my colleagues at work seem to think that I am high risk and that my premiums, none of them are experts in insurance. My insurance is due in July and am 25 this year with 6 years no claims, so hoping to be a bit cheaper.
Any one with any experience of this? Do they mark your card as having an unclean record? Read more
If you drive for 5 years and have no accidents at all you are deemed a better risk than someone who has driven 5 years and had say 3 No Blaim Claims (3rd party Insurance paid out in full for each accident).
That said if you have 5/6 yrs NCB you would be deemed to be a better risk than most other drivers on the road for your age.
I have a rover 620 sdi, 1994 model (2.0TD).
Anyway for some reason my throttle no longer responds. Im guessing these are drive by wire as I cant see the usual signs for cable anywhere and I suspect something is just unplugged. I have just fixed a small derv leak on the pump (the top cover wasnt sealing so Ive resealed it) and also I removed the stop solenoid and checked that for signs of leaking but it was all fine. I have noticed a small white cylinder just hanging around the pump area, the cyclinder contains 1 female spade term, inal and has a red wire running to it, also its quite clean in comparison to everything else in that area. Is thgis the throttle control? I cant find anything to plug it into.
Any help greatly appreciated.
PS, I have primed the system and it does start (reluctantly though were it used to start straight off without glow plugs) Read more
Another thing to mention, its not the brake light switch :D
Not sure if this is new and I know there was a problem on VAG 1.8 Coils but my brother has just called asking to borrow my car for going to work on nights as his 03 plate Golf - 1.6 16V (105 bhp) has just burnt out all 4 coils.
The car is registering an emmissions fault and will just not start.
The local dealer has told him 1-2 weeks for the bits and they have 3 other 1.6's with the same problem waiting.
VW have said they will pay even though the car is out of warranty but he is now inconvenienced without a car for 2 weeks.
Thankfully he has my trusty old Corolla to rely on !!!!!

Well after a couple of weeks after the replacement coils the Golf is playing up again and now takes 7-8 attempts to start from cold in the mornings.
VW dealers have performed as usual and cannot tell the bro what is wrong with it and are suggesting they start replacing parts of the fuel system including injectors etc at his expense.
I did not want to start a new post on this in the tech section as the history of the problem is contained here.
Whilst he is looking to part-x it for a relaible car does anyone here have any ideas as to what it can be.
It ran ok for about 2 weeks after replacing the coils.
If only everything in life was as reli..........stop it !
I've got a new job which I'll be starting at the end of this month. I'll be doing at least 80 miles round trip everyday so I'm planning to buy a diesel car. I haven't got huge amount to spend I'm afraid and my budget is ideally around £2k mark. What cars would you suggest in this price range. Out of these 80 miles 70 odd miles would be on lovely M4. I would ideally like a VW Bora but I believe its out of my budget so I'm thinking about VW Golf (mark 3), Vauxhall Astra 1.7TDi, Toyota Avensis D-4D. Please give me some advise, thank you. Read more
Guys I'm getting a V plate 99 Avensis D4D for £1800 with 85k miles on it. Its hatchback. I know Toyotas are meant to be reliable and I've had really good experience with all of them in the past but I've never owned a diesel one so a bit of feedback would be great. Thanks as always.
The link below is an almost interesting review on CO2 emmissions from cars and what consumers apparently want - well yes I want a car limited to 155mph and runs on water but I ain't going to get it.
The interesting bit for me is the graph towards the bottom that shows increase in weight performance & capacity with a subsequent reduction in CO2.
You do have to ask what other ndustry can demonstrate improvements like this - but it is the motorist & manufacturers that continue to get hit.

The very same people that insist we have greener cars are the very same people who insist we make the cars more pedestrian friendly, occupant friendly, safer all-round etc., all of which make the cars quite a bit heavier.
I don't so much want a greener car, but a car that hopefully costs me least, given my requirements, over a given period of time. I didn't need a Mondeo TDCi, but I was not prepared to squash a family of four in a 1.3 litre Corsa Diesel to 'go greener'.
I've had my Xantia for over seven years now, and always had Goodyear NCT3s on it. I've got two coming up for replacement and was wondering whether to stick with them, or if there's anything newer/better that would give the same level of grip. I'm not interested in teflon tyres that do 50,000 miles, I get about 13,000 out of the Goodyears and that's fine for the mileage I do, I don't want them cracking with age. Any ideas? Read more
"Frog cars" ?
That's why it jumps away from the traffic lights, then.
I have a friend who is pining for two of his perviously owned cars.
If he could find out who owned them, I'm fairly sure that he would make the new owners very generous offers to buy them back.
Is there a way that he could contact the current owners of these vehicles? Read more
If he can convince DVLA that his is a legitimate reason for getting RK's details then for a fiver a throw they may condesend to supplying.

You would not get the job done properly for £200.But dont expect this wunda stuff to last,I`ve heard of it blocking the waterways and wrecking the engine.

Just wondered if anyone has tried both the above?
I would have expected a 3 cyl engine, with 120 degree spacing around the crankshaft to be be pretty smooth, however we have a Seat Ibiza with the VW 1.2 3 cyl engine, and while it revs well and is good on the move, it's horrible and shuddery around town - like it's got an engine mount missing!
I drove a 4cyl engined Ibiza recently and it felt soooo much better.
What's the 3 cyl Toyota like? Read more
Something to do with volumetric efficiency of cylinders a certain size, with cubic capacity a certain size to exploit some tax law... In principle they should give more bang per cc of fuel or something. Evidently sometimes works, sometimes doesn't... NC and Aprilia, where are you?

"So 3 or 4 people can't get comfy in a Vauxhall so they're immediately dismissed as rubbish."
That's internet forums for you. Got to keep things in perspective.
I saw a three door diesel Corsa at work today. Looked very nice but appeared a bit cramped in the back. Certainly looked as if some real effort had gone into the design, something that can't be said of some GM cars in the past.
Long may it continue.
