helo all,
iv got a `98` punto and the battery went flat overnite with no warning,it allways span the engine over fine before then. I bought a new battery and the old one was the original so at 8 years old it was gona die anyway. A month later and after not driving the car for 2 days the battery was barely starting the car so i took it for a good run (nite time-lights and heater fan on) and disconected the battery overnite...the battery was fine next day so im presuming the alternator is fine and i must have something draining it with ignition off. How do i find out what is draining the battery? There is a flashing led on the stereo but i doubt its that... thanks for any replies alan Read more

Remove the parcel shelf and check the boot light is being turned off when you close the hatch.

Thinking about my recent thread on BiL's 330d (my old car). When I had the car all servicing was done by the book and the tab picked up by the lease company. Now it's in private hands BiL has carried on the credo of FDSH down to the recent coolant and brake fluid (he's a flyer so a bit....well you know). Now is this a rip off or sensible line to follow. I have never changed brake fluid on a vehicle I've actually owned, but been "sensible" with coolant (you know checking it, making sure any top up is to proper spec). When my bike visited a Motorrad dealer they changed the brake fluid on a two year old low mileage bike..........the bike has ABS and I viewed that as a sensible thing to do;;;

Changing brake fluid and coolant every two years is a very good idea.

The rip-off is in the pricing. I can change brake fluid in about 20 minutes using a MityVac. I can get a a litre of brake fluid for under £5 (dealers will pay less). So that's a charge of about £70 for 20 mins work for which the technician will receive about £5. Its very good business if you can get it.....

Hi Folks
Just been out on the bike before it pours down later, came across a diesel spill down a main road for a good 3 miles or so, obviously a truck or something leaking. Does anyone know how I can report it and to whom? On a bike it's a significant hazard.
Cheers

I really, really trust that this individual is caught very quickly, locked up and the keys thrown away permanently.

It's been on the news all day and the details, bare though they are, are sickening.

Collapse, as in get sucked out of shape and go from round cross section to oval. A jubilee clip or two might/could force the hose to stay circular. If you actually put a metal sleeve all the way along it it couldn't collapse - jubilee clips are a sort of half-way house, or do I mean half way hose??!!

Astonished to read in Honest John's DT page the letter from the man concerned about red lights in Leeds. He reported that he regularly ran the red lights at night; find it hard to believe that this letter was published. Hope the police look into the case. Read more

In my neck of the woods there are still both the original Renault 12s and the newer Dacias around, several in estate versions too and, if course, the pickup which was sold in the UK fairly extensively. Only one silver Logan spotted so far and it looked bad in silver which usually flatters. As for the Dacia Duster, it was better than a Lada Niva in being less noisy and the soft top version could be fun but you are right it was pretty useless off road. Holds quite a lot of students though.

Last week my wife under instruction (as she is on a provisonal licence) scuffed a bumper of a parked car when practicing a manouver. We waited until the driver came back and showed her the 2 small 4-5 inch scratces on her bumper. The occupents of the car did not notice as it was so slow! We have received a letter from her Insurance company. Our insurance policy has a massive excess due to a) her licence and b) a voulentry XS to reduce the premiums. Therefore £500 xs... plus we will loose 2 years no claims etc etc. These scratches could cost us loads of dosh!

Therefore, can i contact her insurance and them to repair the damage and send me the bill direct, as it will work out cheaper this way. I have already told my insurance company, but i want to avoid using them to pay the bill.. Read more

I intend to replace my diesel Mondeo (2004 model) with a PETROL car of similar size. I cannot afford new, but I would like something less than 2 years old and the cheaper the better. Any suggestions for a similar sized vehicle? Reliability is of greatest importance, with safety also being relevant. I won't consider another Mondeo due to quality problems with the current one and poor service from the dealers. Read more
