I`m in the market for an Audi A3 1.9 SE, 130 5 door 52 plate, 80k ish on the clock. I`m looking at auction, probably an ex lease car and wondered if any one visiting auctions regularly on this site has an idea of approx how much they go for (obviously there are variable factors). I have looked at glasses guide (adjacent) but their values, only really list trade-in, private sale and retail. The idea of getting an auction buyer to get me the car appeals but I never received return email after contacting Joe at AuctionCarBuyer website Read more
I ran a search but could not find any posts on this.
Is there any wisdom which says whether a rear-facing child seat in the back seat should be put on the off-side or near-side? Read more
Back in the days before good heaters and people wore thick coats in the car,my younger daughter, now in her 40's, nearly strangled me by pulling on the hood of my parka;her child seat was directly behind the driver.
Hi, Can anyone tell me where I may be able to find a damaged top box for a R1150RT, I just need the locking mech so damage to the box is not a problem. Motorcycle breakers etc I have tried to search for them but nothing has come up. Read more
E-bay of course ! I've jus bought a slightly marked top box for my 1200gs at less than 2/3 the price of a shop bought one. There are loads of other sites including the UK based BMW GS web site, plenty of calssifieds on there.
I recently hired a Corsa C series and while traveling down a motorway the dummy plastic grill on the r h side of the front bumper detached and flew off into the wild blue yonder. I may have to pay for this as I "damaged" the car.
Have any other Corsa users suffered with the plastic bits?

Nothing has broken in 4 years, not even the plastic bits.
I have posted before on this and have been a very careful driver trying to keep correct lanes, indicating nicely and in time. The other day I was merrily making my way at about 70 mph in the inside lane and could not pull out because of middle lane hoggers...one in front and one just behind making it dangerous to pull out.. Behind me comes a coach ...flashing his lights and gesticulating in an aggressive manner for me to undertake the middle lane hogger. What would you have done backroomers? (The inside lane in front was quite clear and the coach was getting close too) Read more
Given the Americanisation (Americanization?) of our roads...
You missed out SUV's and the shortening of peoples awareness to the end of their car's bonnet!
Still, top marks for effort. ;o)
I'm driving to Cornwall next Saturday. I know that there are lane closures on the A30 at Whiddon Down near Okehampton. Can anyone tell me how much effect they're having on traffic and whether I should avoid them? Thanks. Read more
The last word of my post was "Thanks"!

Hi All,
Been watching as a stretch of crash barrier along the M5 close to the Wellington junction (26) is being replaced by a large reinforced concrete wall.
Apart from this having no aesthetic value (is big, grey and extremely ugly in quite an attractive area of countryside) my liftshare and I have been trying to work out why this is being installed. Neither of us (non engineers) can see how a large, very ungiving structure like this could be preferable to deformable crash barriers.
Can anyone shed any more light on this? Are they better than conventional barriers- and is this going to be the norm for all motorways in the future? Read more
I only realised that the A3 from Painshill to Guildford has what looks like the tensile wires - as I was hurtling up the outside lane at 'slightly over' the prescribed limit. Would not like to be anywhere near those things if I have an off, vicious looking things.
We bought a 2001 Primera with 70k on the clock and FSH, after 4 month the air mass meter had to be replaced as the car pulling power slowly degraded. We were amazed by the fact that to replace the part the Nissan service centre is asking £475.
Is this reasonable for this kind of fault? And is this typical for Primeras? We specifically got the car based on its reliability reputation and now feel a bit disappointed

without taking over your post Aprilia i would suggest the original poster lets a competant garage do the "careful cleaning" :)
Hi all,
Noticed this morning my polo was jumping around a bit, and that the rear parcel shelf had shifted.
When I looked into the boot I found that the top of the shock absorber was way up to the extent that it had pushed the parcel shelf support off.
I later took the shock out of the car (still needed to compress the spring) and noticed that the circlip had gone, and the spring top seat just slides all the way down the shock absorber.
I know that the shocks were replaced before I bought it (about 6 months ago).
Does anybody know what could have caused this, and whether I can get away with not buying a new shock.
What do I need to do?!?!
Thanks,
Josh

I saw this happen on a golf a few weeks ago. Turned out to be rear top shock mounts, I think Euro Car Parts or GSF do them pretty cheap.

Is not just the time factor, Joe has an uncanny knack of spotting a wrong 'un quickly- so for me is now the safest option for buying a car. Bear in mind that you will need to do a fair amount of research yourself in the evenings. This will mean looking through auctionview and choosing the cars you want Joe to bid on, My own technique was to make an initial list, then go back and short list this to 2-3 tops to allow Joe enough time to evaluate the cars properly.
What brought this home to me was when I went to pick up the Picasso. Standing outside Blackbushe was a Scenic I had been very keen on. Joe had steered me clear as said paintwork was bad. Sure enough, although the car looked OK initially, looking closer could see where the paint had been damaged from bird droppings.
Another thing to point out is that wherever possible Joe will fight your corner to get the best price possible (which he did for me brilliantly when I bought the Mondeo).
Hope this helps.
