Hi I am at present discussing with my solicitor the if we could reject my new Lexus IS250.( 3 weeks old 250 miles) The law states that if the car is of unsatisfactory quality as judged by ' the average buyer' then it can be rejected.

The question is if you had bought a car and within 10 minutes it developed rattles that required extensive repair..ie dash removal and now replacement Removal of front door trims and modification And lastly now taking the b posts apart to look for loose wires etc would you consider it reasonable to reject the car.

Any opinions welcome as this would help to form a case.

thanks

You need to be careful now. Perhaps indescrete to discuss it publically until this is resolved. No doubt Lexus people visit this site (like other car makers have been known to) and they may not react favourably to a public airing of the case.

I am looking to buy (preferably an estate) car with a budget of £2500. I am getting a car as my wife and I are expecting a child and it will be used to ferry mother and child around and also the odd weekend drive (100 miles or more). We require large boot space for pram and luggage (hence an estate). My priorities for the vehicle are safety (for child), reliability, value for money and cheap maintenance and insurance. Can anyone suggest a vehicle (date and approx mileage for £2500) and the best place to buy it dealer, auction etc... Read more

I had a puncture on one of the rears yesterday - outside lane doing 70 (cough), I wouldnt have known had the warning light not come on. Its certainly quite impressive - I'm fairly confident even if it had been on the front it would have been similarly uneventful.
Anyway Fleetco said 'take it to KWIK FIT' and as the other rear tyre was getting low they replaced the pair like for like (Bridgestone Potenzas).

Anyway what a difference, I was getting a bit dischuffed with the RFTs mainly due to the ride and feel during the winter. These new ones feel like normal tyres; they feel more grippy and the ride is significantly softer.

I'm wondering if Bridgestone have upgraded their RFT in the last year or so, although Kwik Fit only put 34psi into them despite me pointing out that the plaque on the car said 2.5bar which I think is 37psi. Read more

Son is going to get timing belt changed on 2.0ltr Pug 406 petrol , local garage say's the belt is excessivly worn, 90000 mls plus but it has been changed at least once in its lifetime. Wondering how mechaninc visually inspected the belt as the cover was never removed. A mark on one the bolts securing the cover would have been disturbed with spanner or socket so were a bit suspicious of them. Price quoted £310.00, a bit on the high side I thought. Whats the average cost of a new timing belt and other parts need plus labour.

Thanks Read more

The garage could be quoting for a cambelt kit, which includes tensioner and idlers. Most garages do this now, as it covers them under warranty. You need to double check their quote, and find out exactly what is on it.

Ever since I signed up here, I've read bad reports from people in the know on automatic gearboxes fitted to Fords and Renaults. Are these the exceptions or are there many more?

Lets say I wanted to buy a big engined car with automatic transmission (I don't), based solely on how good the box is, what should I be looking at?

I'll make it more difficult - nothing Japanese - it's a given they seem to be the best at everything mechanically.

I haven't a clue how many autoboxes fail, but I shall now peruse the internet to ascertain the level of autobox failure and present my results on this august messageboard at the earliest opportunity. Definitely.

I doubt there's much he could have done, it's a sealed unit. Renault replace the whole thing.
