A friend has test driven a 650i (360 bhp) and is thinking about spending £40k on a nearly new 645i (only! 333 bhp), another aquaintance had a 645i and did not like it, anyone driven either/both?
|
None I'm afraid but if he wants another friend...

Adam beat me to it! Ditto :p

oh yes indeed. Can't go wrong.

This weeks Autocar rates the new XK over the 650i convertible unless you want to take big passengers in the back.

If he's got a further 10 to 20k to spend. Got to agree that the new XK might be a prettier car. The old one looks a bit stale...
|
Reckon £40k is enough, personally I would be turned off the 645 by the existance of the 650, I might even prefer the 630 cos it still goes like stink, is perhaps even more refined and is a current model.
That being said if I was spending that sort of money on a BMW it would be a 5 Touring of one sort or another.
|
|
you're probably right, the 600 is probably more suited to St Tropez than St Annes....5 series touring would be abetter all round buy.
|
PU, would that be the 535d Touring? :o)

Can you get the 4.8 ltr V8 in the 5 now, i.e. a 550i, that would be the biz as per C55, E55 RS4 etc. 550 also sounds great as a name though perhaps Ferrari registered it, on the other hand I would have though that BMW would have registered 328 though Ferrari used it before they resurrected it.

Excuse me PU, but that's just a bit rich coming from someone who is such a big fan of Banglemobiles!

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. IMHO the E60 has real presence.

Nothing wrong with a pretty car, I would never say that the current 5 is pretty, the last model was a pretty car by any stds.
|
PU A very fair response in every sense, thank you!

Now I prefer the new 5, takes a lot of slating does Bangle though I like the look of the new BMWs, just not sure if they are VFM.
|
For my body shape the E39 (previous) 5 Series was perfect, and the interior layout was classic. For my own personal taste the new 5 Series (E60/61) has less comfortable seats and appears rather slab-sided, but a little trim in the right place would easily correct this (as has been done with the face-lifted 7 Series).
I've driven all these and also the 6 Series cars, with the exception of the M6. Sounds wacky but if I was offered a straight swap I'd still stick with my E46 320d. I can afford to run it.
