The two rigid trucks at the end, clearly the one on the right was sliding backwards when it came into shot at which point it hit the barrier and it slew round, it knocked the one on the left with it's cab - according to my eyes and computer.

I'm thinking about buy a new car, only "thinking" because i've not seen anything makes me want to buy it.

So I need backroomer recommendations for a

Small car(Fiesta sized) with :
Good leg room
Pedals correctly spaced
Clutch rest (or at least room for your foot)
Quiet

Not bothered about performance, but good MPG would be a plus.

Does such a car exist ? Read more

I removed the radio, glove box and plastic panels beside the centre consolue. All the dials pull of, remove the ashtray unscrew the gear selector knob and remove.Bit difficult to exactly say what you need out, but i replaced the complete operating cable assembly from selector to vane operating arm and the more you get out the easier it is.

Fabulous noise those Audis used to make, and their acceleration was unbelievable. I only saw and heard one in the flesh at Shelsley Walsh, and the wastegate was an important part of the sound: 'VrooomBLATvrooooomBLATvroooooooomBLATvrooooooooo.....' Superb.

towbar

Have just bought a clean one with FSH to tow my caravan.(3 months dealer warranty.}3 glitches have appeared,As soon as the wheels start turning the speedo climbs rapidly from 0 to 50 and the needle stays there until the car actually stops,at which point it falls slowly back to 0.When the engine is fired up from cold the rev counter registers the revs correctly, but after about five minutes the needle fluctuates wildly and then dies. And 3rdly after about 20 miles an orange warning light comes on.it is directly above the red Handbrake On light. Anyone know what it is? I assume that the first two glitches are sensor/ bad connection related. Am I right? Cheers. Read more

Cheers Richard. Test drove it first seemed ok. Speedo repaired after 2 weeks of courtesy car,Sensor changed for known good one still no good,NEW sensor fitted STILL U/S.Fault finally traced to damaged nylon ring gear which drives the sensors brass bevel gear. Cost for a new one ? £2.70. GEARBOX OUT TO FIT IT.!!!!!
Rev counter still working when started from cold and dying after a few miles. Courtesy car was a Volvo V40 1.8i My verdict......Underpowered Mega thirsty Lump{gearchanging like trying to stir a bucket of treacle with a piece of rubber pipe}

Not quite the number of flash yachts as PB but I was in Rhodes a few years ago and there were 2 yachts there which had helicopters on the stern which would have cost more than any Merc, except perhaps the Mclaren. Really silly money around for some people, lucky them!

Help !, i have an omega 2.2 dti 2001 (new shape), problem is i travel for about 10-15 miles, then stop with engine still running, the temp gauge will get higher and higher, i cant hear the fan kicking in, but when i start travelling again the temp gauge goes down to normal. When the cars temp is to high, steam seems to come out from the back of the engine, could it be the thermostat or maybe probs with the fan, any ideas ?? Read more

I need to take my car this week to Mazda (the car's still under warranty) as it misfires at times, but as it's an intermittent fault they might not detect anything. I was told yesterday by a friend of mine that I might have to PAY if they can't find any fault, I was astounded. Is this true ?

Also, any idea as to what it could be ? (HT leads ? spark-plugs ? the car's just under 3 yrs old and has only covered 25,000 miles) Read more

Thanks to everyone who's replied, it's much appreciated. Bizarrely, it's not misfiring anymore but I'll take your suggestions and advice on board, it might happen again !

PS: Dynamic Dave, not to worry, I'm sure dealerships' practises vary enormously from one dealer to another

My young friend is enjoying his 1992 Toyota Corolla but is hearing a noise from front end when braking hard which suggests need for replacement brake linings and perhaps even new discs.

He has not needed yet to establish a relationship with a reliable local garage so is wondering whether to 'go in blind' to whichever one is nearest to him or to use a national chain.

If the latter....which one would you recommend?

He is in a 'time poor' situation....but not cash rich!

TIA.

Hello all,
During longer journeys or when the engine gets very warm in urban driving for example, the 'Oil Lack' warning comes on the dash computer. When I next stand the car and check the oil level it is within acceptable limits. During longer journeys it happens when I slow down say after a moterway trip. I never get the oil warning light, just the computer warning.

Is there a separate sensor for the computer and the dash as the haynes manual does not give any detailled information on this.

The engine is burning about 1 lt per 1000 miles which is ok but if I leave the car to idle for a long time, say from cold to the cooling fans kicking in, then rev it up a bit then I get a big cloud of oil smoke. When the car idles or is revved otherwise then there is no smoke (or none that I can tell of)

I change the oil and filter regularily and the cylinder head has just been reconditioned.

Any ideas? I am thinking either a blocked strainer or oil pump (but wouldent that cause the same problem all the time?) blocked filter (been changed, no difference) faulty sensor (but then why does it always happen after a motorway trip?) Could there be a inlet manifold gasket problem?

Cheers for any advice! Read more

The oil level sensor in the sump feeds the Oil Lack message, and a small pressure switch feeds the Oil Pressure light. The former measures sump level, the latter measures pressure.
Probably just a faulty or gunged up sensor.
