I've used auction buyers in the past and been completely satisfied. My impression is that they all seem to be based in the South. Does anyone know of a trustworthy auction buyer who might be attending Nottingham BCA on a regular basis? There's a car on sale up there that I'm interested in.

Any names appreciated.

Thanks,

"joe says that the best cars are usually found in the south - the further away from London you go (northwards) the quality of cars drop!"

Oooh, thanks for that.

Fortunately, this one seems to buck the trend up to now...

Anyone know how to identify a Keihin CV Carb' fitted to a Honda 250cc 4 stroke single motorcycle? I've searched the web looking for information on what the stamped characters mean for two carbs - both CV 30mm - one is VE3BB and the other VE3BD and both used on the same engine and fitted as OE. The 'VE' is raised and cast onto the carb body with all other letters stamped in. Read more

A couple of things caught my eye in tonight's Car wars program.

1. The "unmarked" Impreza the police were using had 4 huge aerials mounted on a square plate in middle of roof. Even from a distance, that would say to me - unmarked police car!! Are these aerials used for tracking tracker-type devices?

2. The unmarked Golf that they got into later - passenger PC has the radio on his shoulder but then uses an old telephone handpiece (like you used to see in Juliet Bravo) as well.
Why would that be? Why, in all these programs, do the police never seem to have some sort of handsfree unit? Read more

Another exciting (not) way to spend so much £$£$£$ on criminal
activites, costing so much more £$£$£$m to the rest of us,
only to result in minimal results,in term of penalties, for the
Police effort.

Not an altogether unreasonable response, Vansboy - but, what are the police supposed to do?

It seeems to me that they are damned if they do and damned if they don't. The penalties imposed are not theirs to choose!

Has anyone used this brand of wax/polishes/cleaners?. If so,is it better than other brands and worth the extra? Thinking of going for a few products from the range to get that "showroom" finish. Read more

I have been using Meguiars mirror glaze wax for around twenty years. Its the best wax I have come across, although it will usually only last around 4 to 5 months.

Yes, they are different engines. The 2.0i (SR20De engine) is the one to go for.

Bought a mates car mid December but did'nt receive the new log book, as it turns out I forgot to send it in. So if I send it in now (2 months late) will I get a fine ?

Should be OK then. Monthly cull of untaxed/unsorned vehicles for the 80 notes will show vehicle taxed.

What can be done about widespread ignorance of the Highway Code? Time & time again I get in a car with somebody who thinks that NSL stands for No Speed Limit. Or that dual carriageways have a 60 limit.

Is it the case that if they have such a hazy recollection of the simplest parts of the Highway Code that their recollection of the more complicated parts is similarly hazy?

What can or should be done about it?

Is it sufficient that they will eventually be caught by a camera at a point where they thought they were doing the right speed limit, and they will buy themselves a copy of the HC? Read more

Whatever method is employed should be relatively easy to bypass, and since the general adoption of such a Big Brother technique should have rendered cameras and traffic police redundant, you will then be free to drive as fast as you like... :-)

just wondered how many miles out of a full tank people are getting in a 306 td? Read more

My absolute record for a tankful in my 306td was 675. Didn't stop me hating the car for a variety of other reasons mind you.

Hi, I own a 1992 Rover 214 Cabriolet (I know, poor me!!!), well recently gear selection has become abit of a gamble....... sometimes it'll go in, sometimes it won't. I can also, sometimes hear a rattling noise when the clutch pedal is depressed. I thought thrust bearing but the noise is quieter than any thrust bearing rattle I've heard. Any ideas anyone, please, before I go and have a clutch fitted. Thanks in advance! Read more

>>When I removed the 'box drain plug the magnetic tip had about a centimetre thickness of metal shards, and oil was black, does this suggest a knackered gearbox?

These gearbox`s were meant to be sealed for life,ie oil should last lifetime of box (never did think this a good idea)I would change oil in box every 3 years with oil stated by rovers, but never kept one long enough to do so.

as these are at best on occasions hard to change into reverse due to crunching of gear, suspect its come from reverse gear area bearing wear, black oil is not good so would suggest after all your hard work if no change try a another gearbox, bear in mind secondhand box is not likely to be any different, best to get recon from decent reconditioner that can be trusted to do a good job/give a good warranty
