Can anyone tell me the average expected oil consumption of this model Read more

Glaikit Wee Scunner {P}

Look in the handbook. If it is anything like VW and Toyota they will have covered themselves stating something like 'up to 1l per 1000 miles oil consumption is acceptable'

The wife and I are expecting our first child in May and I need to change my car - 306 Gti6 isn't really practical..

I was just wondering if anyone could offer some advise on what would be the best sort of thing to go for. I was hoping something 306 sized would suffice, but after picking up the new pushchair/travel system and having to really shoehorn it into the boot, I'm thinking maybe slightly bigger is better (or just something medium sized with a bigger boot).

I've got about £4000 to play with. Any thoughts or advise will be grately appreciated..

It's going to hurt whatever car you have so I wuld wait and see. The only advantage I can see in buying a new car is that it will make you feel like you are taking control of the situation. This is a mistake: from now on you are not in control. Get over it.

Hi my speedometer on my Fiat Punto isnt working properly, are there usually faults on this and how or what should i do to fix it and is it expensive Read more

hi tom i had this with a 75sx the only cure is a new head the one i had the mileometer was fine but the speedo would stick at 30 mph it was an elecrical speedo on mine i cant remember what your is but the solution is if you look at the speedo cowling you will see two philips type screws undo this and remove the outer cowling, you may have to jiggle it through the steering wheel.
You will then see 4 screws holding the speedo head in undo these and carefully pull the speedo head forward and making a note of the connections as they all look the same (tippex may help numbered 1-5) undo them all and if it is an electric speedo then i suggest you get another from a scrappie or an internet auction i would expect to pay a £10/£15.
If you are worried about the mileage just make a note of the mileage in your service history book and explain what you did at resale time (it is not illegal to do this
If it is a cable then try renewing that, but im sure they arent.

What is the lag between crude prices and pump prices when the price of crude drops?

I imagine the price increase is near-instantaneous on the way up, but probably lags a bit (or a lot!) on the return trip. Anyone know of a comparison site online with this sort of historic data?

Crude has dropped around 10 dollars in the past month but not seen much sign of this at the forecourt.

Take a look at item 4614448559 and 4614226911 on Ebay These are both cons but some poor guy is going to hand money over and then they are ship the car in a wooden grate from italy as that is where he now lives and doesn't want a RHD anymore. Yeah Right. Regards Peter

{Neither of these items appear to on ebay anymore. Thread locked as I don't wish to encourage these type of discussions, especially so in Technical Matters, which isn't what this particular side of the forum is for anyway. DD.} Read more

How long does this engine need to run with non pd oil for damage to be done (& what would the damage be)? Skoda serviced the car in September but the receipt showed normal oil being used. i noticed the mistake the day after and they changed the oil within 100miles. they also insisted that the receipt had been filled in incorrectly and that pd oil had been used (i wasn't so sure and insisted on the oil change). Worst still the service desk initially tried to blag it and insist the engine didn't need pd oil! It was only when i escalated my concerns to the service mgr that they admitted fault. Cheers. D. 100 miles only

Don't think the engine would have suffered any ill effects as it was still been lubricated.
Not worth worrying over the matter.

I was trawling through the catalogues of upcoming auctions. There are plenty of upmarket BMWs, Mercedes, Porsches etc. But Audis are conspicuously absent.

Does Audi have a closed disposal channel ? Is there some other explanation for this ? Or is it just a fluke ?

However if you order a new A3 Sportback TDi you will be looking at approximately a 12 to 14 week factory build so you could be paying a premium for quick availability.

The AEC-PRV Routemaster was designed for London Transport and virtually all of the 2875 odd Routemasters produced went to them. The only exceptions were 65 that ran between the West London Air Terminal and Heathrow for BEA, towing luggage trailers, and 50 built for Northern General on Tyneside.

Some Routemasters ended up working in other cities after being sold off but there were other types that bore a vague resemblence like the AEC Regent V, AEC Renown and some Daimler double-deckers of the late 50's/early 60's.

I think the Routemaster gets my vote as a design icon because it looks so right - it was the ultimate expression of the traditional front-engined, half-cab rear platform double-decker.

In addition one solitary rear-engined Routemaster, the FRM was built, with an entrance platform alongside the driver. It was made using 60% Routemaster components and still exists. It never went into production because much cheaper alternatives were available.
