Forgot to send the V5 in

Forgot to send the V5 in - JohnG66
Bought a mates car mid December but did'nt receive the new log book, as it turns out I forgot to send it in. So if I send it in now (2 months late) will I get a fine ?

When did the Tax expire? 31.12.05? Haven't renewed? No SORN ?

If so then your mate as the Reg Keeper if he passed the whole V5 to you and not just the little bit could well be getting a fine of £80 from DVLA.

Obligation on both of you to notify the sale and aquisition of a vehicle (criminal offence)forthwith.If caught in an ANPR exercise you could get reported by Plod.

If it is currently taxed or even if it is not then send it off now with a grovelling explanation and get things on a level plain.

The car was originally on a sorn before I bought it, it's now fully taxed and legal etc, just that it's going to be a couple of months late !

Should be OK then. Monthly cull of untaxed/unsorned vehicles for the 80 notes will show vehicle taxed.

Get the document off to change ownership to yourself.
