Looking for a 1.8/2.0, got about 2.5k. Seems a solid motor with good write ups, any tips on what to have/avoid ?
Cheers

No idea what they're like to own but I heard one of the right bodyshape for yr budget this very evening and it sounded absolutely sweet. That model also had a reputation for good handling among the more informed hacks, and the most sporting variant was said to be the nearest thing you could buy to a European touring car championship racer. The current model looks like a shark with a serious stomach condition and can't possibly be as good, but must have all bells and whistles and is probably soothing to drive.

I assume you have looked at HJ's car by car breakdown. 2.5K would put you in MK111, P11 144 territory.
Aprilia, a much respected poster on here, is a fan of the 2.0 version. Previous threads have warned against CVT autos, whilst the Jatco autos are admired.
The Nissan Primera owners club site would also be a good source of information.
I have driven a 96 2.0 Primera for three years and find it a reliable car.
I trust more technically minded Backroomers will join to expand on my sketchy praise, particularly the CVT aspect.

MK111, P11 144 - what particular model is that John ?

1999 to 2002. The model before the current one

Your £2500 should get a '99 2.0i petrol Primera. Its the best engine.
Not much goes wrong with them if they are regularly serviced.
Just check for low-speed knocking from the front over bumps (its upper link bushes - not serious and fairly cheap to fix). Check gearbox and clutch work OK. Otherwise you should be fine.

I am on my 3rd. Great cars and try for the 2.0 if you can.
PS I take it you like in the G66 area - me too!!

Aprilla,
Is there much/main difference between the 1.8 and 2.0 ?
|
|
Yes, they are different engines. The 2.0i (SR20De engine) is the one to go for.
