I'd like to know if anybody with a Honda Civic Type-R, has trouble selecting 1st and 2nd in the cold weather, especially in the mornings? I had the engine oil changed a thousand miles ago to Castrol SLX 0W-30 but doubt if this would have anything to do with gear selection!!
Also, big up Cirencester Tyre and Exhaust Co for their 4-wheel laser tracking service. New RE040's have 6000 miles on them and are wearing evenly, and very slowly - thanks lads! Read more
Our thoughts and condolences the the families involved in the tragic events in North Wales yesterday, but surely 12 cyclists riding on an icy and busy main road is asking for trouble?
Around my area cycle clubs regulary hold races on busy roads at peak times totally oblivious to the dangers.

I said at the time that it seemed astonishing that no action, in direct relation to the crash, was taken against the driver - and the Coroner agrees.
In court on his baldy tyres charges, the Police seemed to go out of their way to support him - very strange.
{seeing as Bill Payer has brought the previous thread up, I think its appropriate to link it - PU }
I might be buying this car; I have an appointment to go and see it tomorrow. But...I have been told by the owner that there are some bumper scratches on the front and rear, caused by his wife reversing, then driving into at a later date, a bush on their drive. How deep/serious should they be to make me walk away? Also, I think I can detect a bit of rust on the front right wheel arch in the picture. Has this car been bashed more than the owner says? It is only priced at one and a half thousand, and I don't know if I should be paranoid. Any help gratefully received... Read more
Polos of that age have always seemed quite prone to rust, most of the ones that I've looked at are starting to show signs of it, particularly along the sill, they're good cars but nothing special.
I'd try and find another, better specced one or check for a similar Fiesta, you may find that you get more car for the money, if you get the 16V engine then they drive very well and don't rust much worse than a Polo unless it's a bad'un.

thats basically always been the case with a credit licence as anybody can apply for one,the thing is once armed with a credit licence you could knock on someones door and offer them a tea towel for £2 interest free and come back the following week and as they are now a customer of yours with a credit agreement you can now offer them a cash loan at your chosen interest rate,if they dont pay and you are that way inclined you may very quickly turn to violence, that is why the licence was tightened up therefore you have to fill in all relevant sections of the credit licence hold your breath and hope they give one to you. I think that in this case the OFT has made the right decision.
The person involved has clearly stepped on the wrong side of the law and hence can't be trusted not to do it again. We'd all be up in arms if he was granted the license, had a genuine hard luck defaulter and then sent the boys around to "sort it out" in front of his whole family.
As far as the provisions of race/gender etc, yes I agree again with the OFT guidelines. We all get annoyed if we find out that we're paying a higher mortgage rate for no good reason than the next customer of the same bank, often because some customers developed better relationships with the branch managers etc. A few years ago, one major bank had to pay out on this very issue after it came on the wrong side of the Ombudsman's decision. I think that was also the right decision, and no race or gender issues were at stake.

As you may see from another thread, I am on the cusp of buying a car. In fact it is the first car either my girlfriend or myself will have insured ourselves for 2.5 years as we both have company cars (she loses hers at the end of Feb hence the purchase). As a result neither of us have official no claims (although we did have prior to getting company cars).
What proof will most insurance companies want to see of a clean driving slate? We can provide details of our last private cover and should be able to get letters from our companies stating a clean driving history.
I appreciate calls to insurance companies will get us an answer, I just wanted to hear from any of you who may have come across this before and are there any particular companies out there who are good at insuring drivers like ourselves? Read more
When I went 'private' Direct Line wanted two statements from either the leasing company or my bosses.
(1) No accidents or claims in the last xxx years.
(2) That I no longer had use of a company vehicle.
I went to max no claims with no problem.

Tried without success to find an independent specialising in VW servicing in the Buxton/Chesterfield area.
Nearest I could find was a chap in Warwickshire who will do 80k Passat diesel service for £150 rather than the £280 my local main dealer wants.

I have recently heard a dull thud on the nearside rear suspension over certain bumps not all. i was wondering if there are any bushes that can be replaced or is it the whole part that needs changing? if so i might wait to see if it gets worse. Read more

A few years ago, driving down Doughty St at about 30mph, brisk for the setting, in dry conditions in the early afternoon. A motorcycle courier pulled out of a turning 40 or 50 yards ahead, turning towards me and accelerating. The bike shot out from under him - diesel on the road perhaps - and he fell off in front of me. All the wheels of my wife's horrid Lada estate locked and the thing stopped some time after the biker had disappeared under its nose, but there was no impact. The biker came round to my window and I asked if he was OK. He nodded. 'Bit close, was it?' He held out a gloved thumb and forefinger an inch apart.
At that moment a pedestrian ran across the road from the opposite pavement and said to the biker: 'I'll be your witness! I'll be your witness!' It might have been interesting to find out what he thought he had witnessed, but both the biker and I simply stared at him without a word until he went away. Has anyone else been offered help of this sort and managed like us to resist the temptation to resort to physical violence? Read more
Probably not beyond the realms of possibility that this person would have been the motorcyclists witness, but at a price !!!
Hi all,
Another corolla question to the wise ones here please..
last week in the snow I stopped my 93 Corolla gxi after a drive, and then took the unorthodox step of deciding to get out of the vehicle. Low and behold, this crazy decision proved to be a costly one as as soon as i shut the door the window fell down into the door. After lots of trying to shove it up it simply would not stay up. Just what you need in the snow.
Took to a mechanic, who says that a cable has snapped that keeps it up and that the whole mechanism will need to be replaced, and that it will be a "very difficult" of a job to do, very pricey.
Does anyone know of a good company to do this kind of thing, other than a toyota dealer, or had similar happened?
I guess they would be the only people with a specialised knowledge of corolla elec window mechanisms...
Thanks muchly

I'd get down to the Honda dealership and get them to look at it now especially if it is a known issue.
They might not do much but at least you will have registered a possible fault.
If Sept onwards the problem arises then you will be in a better position to ask for an out of warranty repair.
