ive only just discovered this site and i think its excellent by the way loads of really helpful stuff. i just read about this italian tune up. i give my 306 1.9 td a good blast every month or so and it runs lovely and smooth...but i was wondering how often people recommend doing it and for how long? i dont want to reck anything but on the other hand i want it running as sweet as possible. as much as people dislike peugeot i love mine and want to keep it as long as possible.
sorry if this bored the pants off a lot of you but your opions are appreciated. im thinking of trying millers diesel power plus any good or bad points to speak of?

Ok Possible problem.......
Life on mars - set in 1973.
A ford zodiac/zephyr. With the big pointy angle out wings at the back ala Z cars.
1973? I don think so it would have been at least 7 years old by then? It was the big square jobs then surely?

very same 2000E with GXL front (and 5 speed box) that
is for sale on the affordableclassics link posted by mikeyb (in
I had a very similar looking MKIII Cortina 2000GXL in that same Bronze colour - lovely car, wish I had it now !
Anybody changed the heater balance resistor/ control pack as it may be known. Suspect it's gone U/S as the fan now only works on selection 4.
It's a known common fault, but just want to make sure that the improved resistor pack Ford now offer is compatable with my 1997 model in terms of wiring colouring.
Thanks in advance. Read more
If it aint broke and you didnt fix it - it will break again.

Having committed to buying the Isuzu Denver Max Pickup, I now need to get a set of seat covers, preferably the hard wearing, waterproof ones.
Are there any recommendations for good suppliers.
Many thanks. Read more
Be careful about seat mounted airbags.
Would it be acceptable to cut a hole in the cover to correspond with the airbag exit position? The position is normally quite apparent.

Hi as the title suggests, im currently looking for my first car.
As a (car mad) soon-to-be seventeen year old, I am posed with more restrictions than most of you but still want to get the best I can.
I was hoping that some of you might be able to give me some suggestions if I let you know some of my requirements.
I have about £6k to spend, the car should be no bigger than a 1.4, low insurance group, must be no more than three years old, have no less than 20k miles and be a manual.
I've been looking at some Clios, Fiestas, Puntos etc. but am wondering if anyone can come up with anything and possibly give me some links.
Lastly the car must be from a dealer around the London area - otherwise no use.
Thanks

A 1.6 Fiesta (I have a Ghia) is around Group 8.. much more expensive to insure if under 25 drivers than a 1.25. The extra power makes it go much better.. and fuel consumption is about 39 vs 41mpg.
I pay around £170pa insurance but 10 years NCD.

I'm Stuck.
I cannot work out how to remove the engine cover (which I think is the air filter). I have searched for hidden bolts or screws (as on the Polo 1.4, 16v) but I cannot find any visible means of attachment. I've given it a good tug, but that's not it.
I would like to see my spark plugs!
Can anybody guide this lost soul?

Its a test. If you can't remove the cover then you're not competent to service the motor. You have no choice but to take to main dealer who will charge you £80+VAT per hour.
Hello
I'm having trouble with my '97 1.6 8v Megane. It intermitantly revs high, up to 3000 sometimes, any suggestions.
Thanks

How often have you come across those with a lack of awareness of what is going on outside of the vehicle they are driving? I don't mean the arrogant and aggressive ones who deliberately go out of their way to annoy....just those who simply have no idea of what is going on apart from what is in their head.
Of particular annoyance are those who:
1. Turn from a main road into a side road whare cars are parked both sides without even looking to see if a stream of traffic is coming up the side road to the main road, then blink in mild surprise that someone else has the temerity to want to use the space as well, and wonder why everyone is honking at them. They are not being rude...just totally unaware!
2. Whilst in a side road pulling up towards the give way lines to a main road, totally oblivious that you (as a pedestrian)are waiting to cross the side road and, they then thus, pull up in front of you, despite not being able to pull into the main road due to heavy traffic, making you walk around the car to cross. They are not being rude...just totally unaware!
3. Whilst walking across side road near junction with main road, Mr or Mrs Lack of spatial awareness turns from main road into side road, and again blink in surprise that a pedestrian would happen to be crossing the road at the time they want to use it. They are not being rude...just totally unaware!
4. Reverse off their driveway without looking to see if someone happens to be walking past. They are not being rude...just totally unaware!
To be honest, they might just as well be driving with blacked out windows on the inside. They are mostly those who drive with their chest 2 inches from the steering wheel, drive with a fixed expression on their face, looking neither left nor right, and do about 35 push pull hand feeds of the steering wheel to do a 45 degree turn.
Aaaarghhhh! Is there a Spatial awareness gene missing from a large proportion of the nation? Read more
Surely if you drive a car everyday, you get used to knowing how big or wide it is?
No, they don't, hence the problem.
My old man (ex HGV driver) used to say "there's enough room to get a double-decker through there on it's side...."
when in fifth gear, stick pops out and goes back into neutral.
what is causing this? does it mean that the whole gear box is gone? or is it only a problem isolated to 5th gear? Read more
If it pops out on power off it is 90% certain to be the detent.Had the same in fourth with mine,as I had a spare g/box I put that in.
I'm not sure whether this should be in discussion or "I have a question", mods please move as appropriate.
A car is parked, illegaly, on double yellow lines. It receives a deserved parking ticket. The car is not moved.
How long before the powers that be can affix another legitimate ticket to it? How long can this process continue before more drastic action is taken by the powers that be?

So in theory, then, assuming the vehicle is unlikely to be "removed" in any way for seriously obstructing the carriageway, there is no limit. If the warden was doing a two hour tour, then every time he/she passed the vehicle, another ticket could legitimately be applied to it?

My opinion is just use the car. If the average person uses it every day, goes shopping, to work, to the park, the odd long motorway journey, the engine shouldn't need an italian tune up in my opinion.
Just lots of use, and the recommended revs and the car will last a lot longer than occasional use. Make the most of the vehicle is my opinion really.
