Corolla electric window replacement - NT
Hi all,

Another corolla question to the wise ones here please..
last week in the snow I stopped my 93 Corolla gxi after a drive, and then took the unorthodox step of deciding to get out of the vehicle. Low and behold, this crazy decision proved to be a costly one as as soon as i shut the door the window fell down into the door. After lots of trying to shove it up it simply would not stay up. Just what you need in the snow.
Took to a mechanic, who says that a cable has snapped that keeps it up and that the whole mechanism will need to be replaced, and that it will be a "very difficult" of a job to do, very pricey.
Does anyone know of a good company to do this kind of thing, other than a toyota dealer, or had similar happened?
I guess they would be the only people with a specialised knowledge of corolla elec window mechanisms...

Thanks muchly

Replacing the whole mechanism is nothing too difficult to anyone used to spannering.

with interior trim removed.
disconect the glass, a couple of screws.
disconnect the electrics, one multiplug.
undo the mechanism, a few 10mm nuts or bolts.
remove mechanism, this is where it can get fiddly to get it out of the small opening in the door.
reassemble with the new mechanism.

Finding a mechanism at a reasonable price is going to be the hard bit.

Agree with above that its a bit fiddly, but not 'difficult' as such. I would try a breakers for a complete s/hand door (doesn't matter if the panel is lightly dented) and take the mechanism out of that. Just be careful you don't cut your hands on the shape edges inside the door case.

Cheers, ggod idea about trying to get a whole door. Will try that when the summer gets near.
