Just a problem here, I purchased a cold start solenoid for my Mondeo 1.8 TD, R reg, which retailed at £138 ouch, the one I have is for the Cav type pump now putting it in isn't a problem, the only problem is the wiring, both wires at the end are white, like which goes in where in the multiplug or dosen't it matter, if anyone can clarify would be a great help.

Hi,
How good is the Warrantydirect cover outlined below? Could you tell me what is missing or what I need to ask? Also, wear and tear items aren't covered for the first 90 days. Do you know if a timing belt is considered a wear and tear item? Car involved is a 2002 Clio DCI 80 Expression+ with 51.000 miles on the clock.

Only the components originally fitted as standard by the manufacturer are covered.
Some further information:
As it has a normal service history it will not have had a timing belt replacement. I am considering purchasing a Warrantydirect Gold policy to allow me to replace the timing belt probably just once in my period of ownership as opposed to 2-3 times. I am also after 'peace of mind' knowing that if my head gasket or turbo suddenly goes I am covered. I simply won't be able to afford a major repair, the policy seems reasonable at GBP20 p/m.
Thanks in advance for your time.
(I've used the search function but could only find partially relevant information.)

Read small print.
Some don't cover consequential damage - i.e. would replace a broken cambelt but not the damage caused by it's breakage.

Anybody keeping up-to-date with this? I'm loving this one. Check out pepconsultancy.com -- it's the only place I bother with these days because everything else seems to be full of adverts and no flippin' car news. Lookers has bid 492 million quid (492!!!!!!!!) and it looks like it will be accepted. MADNESS! I was sure Pendragon had it in the bag.
Anyone have any ideas whether this will have much of an impact on showrooms around the UK? Will the average punter be affected or is this just something that will affect investors? I've always liked Reg Vardy I have to say, but the report at pepconsultancy.com suggests the management team will be staying on.
Anyway, it's a good story! Any thoughts anybody? Read more
Actually these big groups have already taken over many of the main dealer outlets. Very often they keep the name of the previous (small) company, so 'Fred Smith Toyota' is actually owned by Pendragon, or whoever. I also happen to know that one or two 'indpendent specialists' are also owned by big groups (obviously hedging their bets a bit).
Clearly, at the prices being bid, they must think there's lots of money to be made retailing cars..... I guess we may be looking forward to some price rises.
Hi all,
A few weeks ago my 330D (SE Manual Saloon 54 reg) started making a drumming noise - probably coming from the rear, but only after having driven a few miles and only on smooth road surfaces. Its not loud - but audible and bordering on the irritating.
The noise gets quicker the faster you go.
Spoke to BMW - suggested getting tyres checked out - which I did - all ok - and had the fronts & rears swapped over. Seemed a little better for a few days but is now back as before.
If it helps - the fronts have done 10k and are Michelins (were the rears which were replaced @ 30k), the rears are the original fronts and are Conti's and have done the full 42k.
Both sets of tyres are in good condition and have 4/5mm of tread.
The car has done 42,000 miles and will be going in for its 2nd service in 10 days time. Any ideas as to what it could be?
Thanks in anticipation.
Robert

Well I need to get used to the price as the ball joints are only available with control arms, so when the ball joints go the entire control arm has to be replaced and the E46 has a fondness for ball joints from what I have gathered..
I have seen pattern (German manufacture) control arms on US Ebay and they are alot cheaper at $199 for a pair, but I don't know if they will fit my car because of the Sport suspension etc.
From todays' Business section of the DT -
Hewitt and Byers are to be hauled in front of an influential committee of MP's to explain their roles in the collapse of Rover. Peter Luff MP, chairman of the trade and industry committee also said that the Phoenix Four would probably be asked to give evidence when hearings start after Easter.
Maybe this will draw a line under the whole sorry saga and the coffin of Rover can finally be laid to rest. Read more

My Peugeot 306 HDI (W reg/2000 105000 miles) still goes very well but the engine has gradually become very noisy. As I accelerate the noise suddenly disappears at 3200RPM approx and the engine sounds as sweet as it used to.Cam belt, idlers/tensioner,water pump and crankshaft pulley have all been replaced. I'm thinking of replacing the car soon, but may have a job shifting the car with the engine this noisy! Can someone please tell me the cause and the approximate cost of fixing it? Read more
Amazing, I have just been trying to work out this problem on my Citroen Dispatch HDi. It too has a pinking type noise which disapears at higher revs, and smooths out.
Mine also suffers a distinct lack of grunt compared to a friends 1.9TD version, I wonder if the injectors are shot on mine..... BTW, it doesn't smoke at all, and has done 128k.

HJ gave this a great review, and I'm very keen on buying one.
But trawling around other motoring websites and consumer reports (both UK and US) shows a lot of owners complaining of electrical niggles.
Flat batteries, radio not working, all sorts of warning lights coming on - sounds like the car is beset with electrical gremlins.
Any advice would be very much appreciated, thanks.

BTW, Volvo sales rose almost 20% in Russia last year -
and their best-selling model there was the S60. If they
can survive the Russian winter they can't be that bad, eh?
Just a guess, but isn't the endless damp of a British winter likely to be tougher on a car's electrics than the dry air of a winter where the temperature stays below -10C ?

It will...
...but not overnight!
Enjoy ;-)
