I know it's a left hooker but these are often regarded as the best supercar in the real world, only 3 years old and 25K, all for not a huge amount more than a diesel BMW. Makes you think.

With the remote, the doors locks and unlock OK but increasingly the indicator lights on the passenger side stay on and the remote has to be operated repeatedly until they go out. Indicators and hazard lights work fine. Any clues would be appreciated.
thanks

The CVH is an interference engine; but there are a couple of spots in the cam's revolution where everything will miss. At a rough guess 1 in 5 chance of getting away with it.
It's quick and easy to pop a belt on it [even an old one for testing] and give it a go. As it's going to be a ruin anyway; if it starts and runs at all, thrash it down a long fast road and if you can get any slightly bent exhaust valves to glow hot enough, they sometimes bend straight and reseat. [After a fashion. Happy days...]
A second-hand head from the breakers must be worth a thought. Can't be a great demand for these now.
Hi i've got around 4-5K to spend on a fairly new car..

A search on the Auto Trader site (register for the full search service) is as good a place to start as any. Of the cars you list I can endorse the Yaris. We have a 1.0litre Yaris Blue which is an excellent, well equipped car for round town and can cope with longer stuff providing you remember it's a small engine.
Hi there, i was just wondering which grade of power steering fluid in my s60 T5. I have consulted the manual, only to find that it is completely useless and tells me to "consult my nearest volvo retailer." does anybody know what grade i should use, thanks, Dan Read more

If this is not enough and no further joy is forthcoming here, try the Volvo Owner's Club at www.volvoclub.org.uk/forum/index.php
The local TV had an item about a 61 year old man with an unblemished 40 year licence who was stopped by the police and given a £30 fixed penalty ticket for the heinous offence of forgetting to turn off his front fog lights.
He was interviewed and did not come across as other than someone who was angry at an unwarranted ticket; and with some justification IMO if the facts were as presented on TV.
I must admit I did not know it was an offence and cannot see the difference between Volvos and Motorbikes with daytime running lights.
I wonder if there is more to the story?

Not wanting to get embroilled in the fog light debate, I must touch on what HenryK has already said. The fog lights on my Focus are part of the light swtich which is nestled down by the ignition. Warning lights illuminate, but only on this switch.
My Fiesta (a lot older) was a different story and had massive buttons for the fog lights which lit up when they were on. I'm sure some people would still "forget" that they were on though!
Hiya, can anyone recommend a good Mercedes Specialist in the Exeter/Devon area. Also, can anyone tell me how having a merc serviced outside the dealer netowork affects the 30 year anti corrosion warranty.

Update RE: MBS i had a dreadful incident occur with my car
The serpentine belt broke and wrecked the power steering pump front seal and unknown to me at the time, a transmission cooler line at motorway speeds...
Guys,
First of all, great site. Lots of good info and tips here.
Second of all my problem. Bought a Jag X-Type in april of last year and all has been fine except some initial central locking problems and a couple of new rear shockers (both under warranty). Now however I am having problems with the drivers door. The door seems to unlock fine but I am unable to open it from the outside. The rest of the doors open fine and the drivers door can be opened form the insid without any problem, even the lock on the inside handle pops out when unlocked with the fob. Unfortunately it is one of those intermittent problems that only seems to happen when the wife is using the car! Now as I said the car was in the garage for repairs to the central locking system last year, so what I am wondering is, what is the likelyhood of a problem with one of the linkages inside the door? Thanks in advnace for any help. Read more
OK update on the problem. Seems to have gotten worse over the past week. I am now unable to open the drivers door from the inside! The problem seems to sort itself if you lock then unlock again but obviously its going to get worse rather than better and I'd prefer not to get stuck in the car.
Is there anyone out there taht can help?
Mate has gone on holiday, had a phone call asking if he would be ok getting his car tax on first of month.
seems he comes back 31st January after PO closes, plus his wages wont go in the bank till early hours of the first of feb,so question is,is he ok getting his tax disc when PO open risking using the car for a couple of hours before they open??

>>This may be where the 14 days grace thinking has come from.>>
There did used to be a 14 day grace period from the start of a month for many years, but it was dropped.
If the person concerned had got the renewal form, papers and cheque ready before using the car for the school run, it would seem very unlikely that they would have been prosecuted even if stopped.

What\'s for you won\'t pass you by
On the 26/06/05 (some 4000 miles ago) I had a new cat fitted. Ever since then, the car has made a metallic rasp or buzz on acceleration. In fact, the degree of the 'rasp' depends on the throttle opening more than engine speed. Its the kind of noise you would expect if the was a pinhole in the exhaust near the engine, or if the metal itself was too thin (its hard to describe odd noises!)
Initially, I thought it could be because the exhaust is clean and polished on the inside (with it being new) and would quiet down with the carbon deposits which cover it during use. Similarly, with a small leak in the gasket, this too would be 'plugged' with carbon.
However, this doesn't seem to be the case. I tried listening out for leaks under the car and the gasket joint (on the end of the manifold / beginning of down pipe) but couldn't pinpoint it to any particular area. I'm toying with the idea of putting a bit of exhaust paste around the joint (not removing anything) but I?m weary putting this ahead of the cat. Other than that, I could try replacing the 'offending' gasket, but this will be easier said than done, and I could make it worse
What do you think?

I've recently got a rasp on acceleration although I've pinned it down to a resonance (rattle) with the CAT heat shield.

Jim, thanks for the tips. Unfortunatly I can't currently afford a car like that at my time of life although it's certainly something I aspire to. Of course if I were to get a windfall of some kind or be diagnosed with a life threatening illness and not have long to live then yeah, sell the house and go nuts. When did that endowment policy mature that I took out for my first house....
